Universal free school meals are for infant pupils only. Pupils in Y3 to Y6 are required to pay for lunch. Mrs Embleton is retiring from her position as teaching assistant and I wish her every happiness in all that she does in the future. We are being joined in September by Miss Price (Teacher) and Miss Steel (Teaching Assistant). Please park carefully outside of school and away from the main entrance as I am being made aware that pupils continue to try and run between parked cars to cross the road despite continual reminders from parents and school. Please note that pupils remain under supervision of parents/guardians until they enter school each day.

2 Year 5 Mountains This half term, Year 5 have been covering the topic of mountains. To start this off, we visited Simonside Climbing Wall. The children enjoyed this, and relished the challenge. They all tried really hard and some even overcame their fears to climb right to the top of the wall! We have been learning lots about mountains, and have enjoyed our topic. Year 2 Jungle Topic We have been learning all about jungles this half term. As part of our topic we visited Kirkley Hall and Zoological Gardens to learn more about it. We went on a woodland walk and spotted plants and animals in this habitat. We also found out about different jungle and forest animals. It was great fun and we learned lots of facts! We have also been reading stories by Anthony Browne and our favourite is Gorilla. In our Design technology lessons we have designed and made fruit animals. They tasted delicious!

3 Year 3 - Diversity Week. During Diversity Week children in Year 3 found out about the different countries taking part in the 2016 Rio Olympics: they located Brazil and the UK on map and researched the flag and history of Brazil. We also found out about the torch relay which brings the flame from Greece to Brazil for the start of the Olympic games in Rio s Maracana Stadium. Year 3 then identified Sri Lanka on a world map and researched the national symbols of Sri Lanka. We had great fun making headdresses and crafts inspired by the culture of Sri Lanka and took part in a parade with the rest of the school. On Tuesday we had a fantastic morning learning to play the drums with Fanuel. Fanuel came into school to teach us all about African Drumming. We all had a go at playing the Djembe drums - the name Djembe means 'gather in peace.' These West African drums are made from wood and goat skin and if you hit the middle they make a low, BOOM, sound and when you hit the outside they make a high, CHA, sound. And to finish off the week it was Year 3 s Class Assembly on Friday: children presented their work on Ancient Egypt to parents, carers and the rest of the school finishing with a fantastic rendition of AMAZING EGYPTIANS! Well done to everyone for all their hard work!

4 Year 6 AL This has been a very busy term in Year 6. We have worked hard to prepare for SATs in May but now we are looking back at our time in Forest View and looking forward to beginning secondary school in September. With this in mind we have thought about our favourite memories over these years. We look forward to sharing these memories with our parents and carers at the Leaving Assembly at the end of term. This term, as part of Diversity Week, our class worked with Lip Lee to learn about origami and Chinese writing. It looked easy but it was very complicated. We also took part in our healthy lifestyles week. One of the activities was hula hooping which resulted in a hula hoop off contest. Elle, Tegan and Harry won from our class. As part of our Aim Higher topic, we visited Northumbria University to experience life at university. The day was very enjoyable with a tour of the campus, talking to real students and taking part in a campus crime. A lot of us thought that it would be good to go to university one day-it looked exciting. After the SATs, we have been taking part in some exciting activities including Hit the Surf and canoeing. Hit the Surf was brilliant-despite the awful British weather-but putting our wet suits on was really hard. We played games in the sea, with the lifeguards and tried to surf -which was not easy. The lifeguards on Shields beach were friendly and funny and are doing a very important job. Canoeing, in Marine Park, was also great but some of us did get very wet.

5 Year 1 Castles This half term Year 1 visited Newcastle Keep. We had a guided tour. We got to look around the outside of the castle and the inside of the castle. We had to be very careful when we were right at the top! We had a great day and learned so much!

6 Year 4ZP Music Year 4 have been having fun practicing their recorders this half-term. They have learnt lots of new songs and performed for parents during a special assembly. Science In science this half-term, Year 4 have been learning all about electricity. We have been making circuits, designing and testing switches and learning some (very tricky) circuit symbols. Diversity week We celebrated Diversity week by learning all about Japan. School Arrival Times Parents / Carers Please Note: 8:40am - School gates opened for Nursery pupils to access the School yard. 8:50am - Doors opened to allow pupils to enter school for Wake-Up and Shake-up (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday only) - Reception Y6 Children not taking part in Wake-Up and Shake-Up are to remain in the School yard until the bell goes.
