Co-curricular Sport at Ormiston College
Healthy body healthy mind Sport plays an integral part in the well-rounded education offered by Ormiston College. Central to the program is our commitment to TAS (The Associated Schools), an independent schools sporting association which offers seasons of Saturday fixtures as well as swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. Complementing the TAS competition is the opportunity to participate in the regional selection process which allows our elite athletes to ultimately compete at State and National level. All students have the opportunity to represent their House in a range of interhouse sporting events which culminate in a Champion House Cup. We offer outstanding sporting opportunities for students, including excellent coaching programs and state-of-theart facilities. Most importantly, our sporting program boasts an exciting tradition of excellence with premierships recorded every season. We are the school from Ormiston. We wear the colours, maroon and blue. We will always strive for victory. To achieve our very best. We are the school from Ormiston. And we never will give in. Redbacks, Redbacks. Watch out when we attack. We are the school from Ormiston. We are the school from Ormiston. 2 CO-CURRICULAR SPORT AT ORMISTON COLLEGE

Junior School Sport At Ormiston College, we believe it is important for our young people to be actively engaged in regular sporting activities. The College has a comprehensive Physical Education Program aimed at improving students physical development, health, fitness, self-confidence and general wellbeing. The College PE Program is complemented by our involvement in Queensland s premier co-educational interschool sporting competition: The Associated Schools (TAS). TAS is an independent schools sporting association that offers varying Saturday morning sporting opportunities each season for students in Years 4 to 6. Through the Junior TAS program, students are not only improving their physical skills, they are also developing important life skills such as self-discipline and perseverance. Junior TAS (Years 4 to 6) Sport Options Term 1: Cricket and Hockey Term 2: Rugby and Netball Term 3: Football and Basketball»» Term 4: Touch Football and Tennis In addition to the Saturday sport Junior TAS program, three carnival sports are contested with great enthusiasm: swimming, cross country and athletics. Selection into these teams in based upon performance at the Interhouse Carnivals and training throughout the year. At the heart of the Ormiston College Junior TAS program is participation. We believe the development of physical literacy at a young age is essential for the long term physical, social and psychological wellbeing of all our students. 4 CO-CURRICULAR SPORT AT ORMISTON COLLEGE

Secondary School Sport Ormiston College is proud to be one of 13 independent schools that compete in The Associated Schools (TAS) Competition. The competition is divided into trimesters, each of nine weeks duration, with matches being played on Saturday mornings. The objective of the TAS competition is the promotion and conduct of various forms of interschool activities with a view to fostering a spirit of fellowship, sound educational practice and mutual support and assistance among its member schools. The mission of the association is to provide a high quality, co-educational, interschool, sporting competition underpinned by the association s core values: participation, pride, performance, sportsmanship and community. TAS (Years 7 to 12) Sport Options Trimester 1 (Term 1): Boys Cricket, Boys Volleyball, Girls Basketball and Girls Tennis Trimester 2 (Term 2): Boys Rugby Union, Boys Tennis, Girls Netball and Girls Hockey»» Trimester 3 (Term 3): Boys Football (Soccer), Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball and Girls Touch Football In Term 4, students have the opportunity to participate and compete in one day (Saturday morning) carnivals: Boys: Touch Football and Futsal»» Girls: AFL and Football (Soccer) To complement the Saturday team sport competition held throughout the year, there are also three sports carnivals scheduled: Term 1: TAS Swimming Carnival Term 2: TAS Cross Country Carnival»» Term 3: TAS Athletics Carnival Each year, students from Ormiston College proudly wear their team colours and train and compete with great enthusiasm and conviction in world class state-of-the-art facilities such as the The Somerset Sports Centre. This facility is a magnificent complex of international standard, having two multi-purpose courts for netball, basketball, volleyball and badminton and tiered seating for 700 spectators. The centre also boasts a fully equipped gymnasium housing weights and cardio apparatus as well as physical education classrooms, first aid centre, showers and amenities. Other features are a multi-purpose area for dance, aerobics and self-defence. There are numerous playing fields, a cross country course, athletics track, and numerous outdoor multi-purpose courts. The Marsson Aquatic Centre houses a heated 10 lane swimming pool with first aid and change room amenities, sports cafe and covered seating. There is also a separate facility for teaching beginners from very early childhood to Prep age. CO-CURRICULAR SPORT AT ORMISTON COLLEGE 7
Opportunity to compete Through the College sport program, students learn the value of competition and achievement. The College considers sport an essential part of a well-rounded education. Participation in a sporting team fosters and promotes important life skills: winning and losing, being part of a team, challenge and achievement, school spirit and moreover, fair play. The College is a proud member of the The Associated Schools (TAS), Queensland s premier co-educational inter-school sporting competition. Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.
