The students presented their Inquiry unit of work on Australia to their parents and the students of William Ruthven PS. The quality of the work, the variety of presentations and their ability to talk about what they had learnt was truly amazing. Everybody that I spoke to about the exhibition was very impressed with what the students had achieved. Once again well done to the teachers and students of the 3/4 unit. Cybersafety At William Ruthven Primary School we run a comprehensive Cybersafety program for all students from foundation to grade 6. As part of this program we talk to the students about how to conduct themselves when online, what information to put online and more importantly what not to put online. Whilst we strictly monitor student online activity at school we have no control on what websites students access at home. Parents need to be very aware and monitor their child s online activity. Foundation transition Foundation transition commenced last Friday with a very excited group of 2018 Foundation students attending school for the very first time. They were met by their buddies and worked with their buddies in the foundation room with Mrs A and Mrs L. The next Foundation transition session is on this Friday. If you have a child or know of a child starting school in 2018 and they are interested in coming to William Ruthven Primary School, they should contact the office and collect necessary enrolment forms and brochures. If you have any queries or any questions about sending your child to William Ruthven PS in 2018, please feel free to contact me either by phone, or by arranging an appointment. End of Year Celebration night Rehearsals commenced today for our end of year celebration night, to be held on Wednesday 6 th December. The students are working with the outside dance company Footsteps and will be rehearsing every Wednesday until celebration night. Please keep this date free, more information will be sent home shortly. Zooper Doopers 2017 Term Dates Term 1 1st February 31st March Term 2 18th April 30th June Term 3 17th July 22nd September Term 4 9th October 22nd December The grade six students will soon be selling Zooper Doopers to help raise money for their Graduation night. Please support the Grade Six Graduation by allowing your child to purchase a Zooper Dooper on the allocated days. On Demand testing Our school currently uses On Demand testing to provide our teachers with insights into your child s literacy and numeracy development. Following a request from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), which is responsible for the development of On Demand, I am informing you of our school s participation in a project to review the On Demand tests. This review will involve the equating of students On Demand test outcomes with the school s NAPLAN data. Towards the end, the school will grant the VCAA permission to collect our On Demand data. The data collected will contain test results and associated student details from On Demand assessments at our school for Our data, along with data from other schools will be used in a one-time linking process between On Demand and NAPLAN results held by the VCAA to form a single dataset. This dataset will then be anonymised and used to review the performance of the On Demand Tests. All identified data collected will be destroyed at the completion of the process and there will be no release of any school or individual results or personal details as part of this work. This work will benefit our school by further enhancing the reliability and accuracy of the On Demand tests. Students in all year levels are having a lot of fun learning their dance routines in preparation to perform at our Celebration Night on the 6th December.

4 Page 4 Grade 5/6 Student Work This term Year 5/6s are learning about the Parliament Process and what is it to be an Australian Citizen. As a part of their learning, a two part incursion was booked. The first incursion took place on the 19th October and explicitly taught students how a bill is passed to become a law. The students had a chance to engage in the election process and understand the preferential voting system in Australia. It was extremely interesting and we are looking forward for the next incursion to be held on the 21st November. During the incursion, we learnt how a bill is changed into a law and various stages it undergoes. I really enjoyed the role play and playing the part of the speaker By Ava During this unit, I have enjoyed learning rules and laws are different but essential for a society. Also, the incursion taught me how a bill is converted into a law By Zara I enjoyed learning about the preferential voting system. 7 Page 7 Sport and Community News Staff Carpark Entrance Recently a number of staff have encountered parents blocking the entrance to the staff carpark while dropping their children off in the morning. Parents please do not drop off your children in front of the carpark entrance as it is very unsafe. There are a number of areas around the school where parents drop their children off safely. We thank you for your cooperation and hope all families display our school value of RESPECT in this matter. Dropping Lunches off to the school To minimize the interruptions to students working in the class, we would like all parents delivering late lunches or any other items to come via the office. Lunches should be left at the office and the office staff will deliver them to the students 5 minutes before eating time begins. This process is less disruptive and less likely to impact the children working in their classroom. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. School Uniform Sales are on Wednesday 8:30am-9:00am & 2:30pm-3:00pm. We have a small number of second hand uniform available for sale. Most items are $5.00 a piece. Please note we only have a few items in each size. We would appreciate that all families demonstrate our school value of RESPECT and come in during the allocated times only as we do not have the staff to man the uniform shop at all times. Should these times be unsuitable, an order form may be obtained from the office. You can fill out the order form, send it to the school along the money and we will fill the order and send it home with your child. Your understanding would be greatly appreciated. -- SPORT Sports Results - November 3rd Hard Ball Cricket: WRPS 7-64 vs St Joseph 4-54 Kanga Cricket: WRPS (4.46) vs St Joseph (3.83) On Friday the 3rd of November the Rounders A team played a game against St Joseph s. It was a fun and fair game. We were all excited as the game started. The highlights of the game were when everyone was trying their best to make a home run and help the team field. Bat Tennis Boys: WRPS 21 vs St Joseph 27 Bat Tennis Girls: WRPS 36 vs St Joseph 8. Rounders A : WRPS 34 vs St Joseph 6. Rounders B : WRPS 9 vs St Joseph 20. It was a nail biting time when the scores were being announced. The final scores were St Joseph s 6 and WRPS 36. We would like to thank Miss M for coaching and supporting us on the day. By Zahra
