2 From our Principal Last Friday, I attended Director's Day, where Dr Neil McGoran, our new Director spoke to all the Principals of Catholic schools in South Australia. He broke open CESA's Living, Learning, Leading Framework. At the heart of this framework is our responsibility in nurturing the students to become 'thriving people, capable learners, leaders for the world God desires.' Our intent is to provide the highest quality Catholic education for all, which is evidence informed and with continuous improvement. Last year, both staff and parents were invited to share their thoughts to begin shaping the school strategic plan for the next three years. As this evolves, it will be shared with the school community so that St Patrick's continues to provide an excellent catholic education for all students. The State Elections are less than two weeks away. Each political party has been asked specific questions in how they will be supporting Catholic education. I am hoping to have a summary of responses that each political party provided so that you as parents are able to make informed choices when voting. In Week 8 of this term, the staff will be providing Parent/Teacher/Student Conversations. This is an important time for parents/carers to meet with the teacher to discuss the progress of your child. A proforma offering various days and times will be going out shortly. Please fill this in and send back to school as soon as possible. Also in Week 8, on March 21 st the school, will be celebrating Harmony Day. This years theme is "Everyone Belongs". Harmony Day celebrates Australia s cultural diversity. It s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The school has a very special day planned for the students and more information will follow. Please put this time in your diary as we invite parents/carers to also be involved on this day. A reminder that the School Board AGM will be held on Wednesday 14 th March at 7pm. All parents/carers are invited to attend. If you would like to nominate for the School Board, please complete the Nomination Form provided. Your feedback is important to us and I am keen for parents to complete and return the questionnaire in regards to our 'Meet the Teacher' Evening two weeks ago. The questionnaire was in the Week 4 Newsletter. 3 From our aprim We have a busy time ahead in the Religious Dimension of St Patrick s School. Please take note of the important events and dates below. On Thursday 15 th March we will be offering the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament that I mentioned last week. The Adoration ceremony will consist of a reading, some prayers and silent prayer to Jesus who is present in the Sacrament. Parents are welcome to join us as we pray this traditional prayer of the Catholic faith 1.40pm Rec - Yr 3 & 2.15pm Yrs 4-7. At 7pm that evening, 15 th March, some our students from the sacramental program will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They will reflect upon their choices and share with God, through Fr Maurice or Fr Long Hai their actions for which they would like to say sorry. For those receiving the Sacrament that night please be at St Patrick s Church by 6.45pm. Please keep the following students in your prayers who are preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist: Katrina, Zandy, Casey, Nathaniel, Quan, Franceen, Aaron, Harry, Ivana and Helena. Friday 16 th March is our St Patrick s Day Mass. We will celebrate Mass at 9am in the Church. It is also the final Mass that Fr Maurice will celebrate with our school before his retirement on April 15 th. Please join us for this special celebration. Fr Maurice has lead our School and Parish community for many years and his ability to explain the Scriptures in a way that the students can relate to is a true gift to us all. We hope to make the Mass a memorable one for Fr Maurice. This year we ask students to wear their full school uniform with a touch of green. Green ribbons, a green scarfe, green socks, however it is not a casual day. Thank you. Wednesday 21 st March is Harmony Day. It is the day we celebrate the diversity of our amazing community and our belief that EVERYNE BELONGS AT ST PATRICK S SCHOOL. We will begin the celebrations in the hall at 9.15am with a short assembly followed by a parade. Each student is asked to either wear their cultural clothing or wear orange clothes, the colour for Harmony Day. We will have morning tea following the parade, students will receive some orange treats and parents/carers will share morning tea under the veranda in front of the hall. Throughout the day students will be doing buddy activities focussing on belonging and participate in African drumming workshops. Please join us for the morning and help us celebrate the rich and diverse community we are at St Patrick s School. On Monday 26 th March, we begin Holy Week with a procession of the palms, which will lead into Palm Sunday prayer. Throughout the week, classes will lead experiences to remember Jesus journey to the Cross, which will be remembered on Thursday 29 th March. More details will be sent home closer to the event. Most of the events I have mentioned are a great opportunity for families, students and staff to come together and strengthen our partnership at St Patrick s School. Please join us if you can. COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS UPDATE We now have collected 1440 vouchers. Voucher tally sheets located at the community room will be updated weekly. Thank you for all those who have brought in their vouchers to help support the school get new sports equipment. These will be collected until 3rd April You may continue to place vouchers in the boxes located at the front office and at Coles in Arndale. COMMUNITY NEWS Adelaide International Kite Festival 2018 Come along to Semaphore beach over the Easter long weekend in 2018 and watch the sky fill with colour, twists and twirls, kites of all shapes and size - when the Adelaide International Kite Festival returns! The 2018 Festival will feature international guest kite flyers from New Zealand and as always, we will have kite flyers from interstate and locally in South Australia flying too! As in recent years, the Festival Marketplace will return with stallholders selling their wares and running activities for all to be involved in. This area is on the foreshore and open 11am - 5pm daily so be sure to check it out. 5 St. Patrick s School Newsletter Thursday 2018 Term 1 Week 6 Lá Thư Hiệu Trưởng Thứ Sáu vừa qua, Tôi tham gia ngày dành của Giám đốc, nơi mà Tiến sĩ Neil McGoran giám đốc mới của chúng ta nói chuyện với tất cả hiệu trưởng của các Trường Công Giáo Nam Úc. Ông ta khai trương chương trình CESA (Giáo Dục Công Giáo Nam Úc) về Sống, Học Hỏi và Lãnh Đạo. Trọng tâm của chương trình về trách nhiệm của chúng ta trong việc hướng dẫn cho các em học sinh trở thành người phát triển, có khả năng học, lãnh đạo thế giới theo ý Chúa muốn. Ước muốn của chúng ta là cung cấp một nền Giáo Dục Công Giáo với phẩm chất cao cho tất cả mọi người, với chứng dẫn và phát triển không ngừng. Năm ngoái, cả nhân viên và phụ huynh được kêu gọi chia sẻ những ý nghĩ về việc bắt đầu định hướng cho chương trình hành động của trường 3 năm sắp tới. Trong lúc tiến triển, chương trình sẽ được chia sẻ cùng với cộng đồng trường để trường St Patrick tiếp tục cung ứng một nền giáo dục tốt đẹp cho tất cả các em học sinh. Chỉ còn không tới hai tuần nữa là ngày Bầu cử Tiểu Bang, mỗi một đảng phái chính trị đều có những đường hướng và những câu hỏi đặc biệt là họ hỗ trợ giáo dục Công giáo như thế nào. Tôi hy vọng sẽ gom lại tất cả những câu trả lời của các đảng phái cung cấp để cho quý vị là những phụ huynh quyết định khi chọn lựa bầu cử. Trong tuần Thứ 8 của học kỳ này chúng ta sẽ có Đàm thoại giữa phụ huynh/giáo viên và Học sinh. Đây là thời gian quan trọng để phụ huynh/giám hộ gặp gỡ giáo viên để bàn thảo về tiến trình học tập của các em. Chúng tôi sẽ cung cấp tiến trình này nhiều ngày và sẽ gửi giấy báo cho quý vị biết trong thời gian gần nhất. Xin điền vào giấy hồi báo và gửi về trường càng sớm càng tốt. Cũng trong tuần 8 vào ngày 21 Tháng Ba Trường chúng ta mừng ngày Hòa hợp. Chủ đề của năm nay là Tất cả mọi người đều thuộc về. Ngày Hoà hợp mừng văn hoá nước Úc đa dạng. Đây là về sự không phân biệt đối xử, tôn trọng và mọi người có cảm tường mình thuộc về mọi ngưới.nhà trường có một chương trình đặc biệt cho học sinh và chúng tôi sẽ gửi thêm thông tin. Xin ghi ngày này vào sổ tay bởi vì chúng tôi sẽ mời tất cả quý vị tham dự. Xin nhắc nhở họp Hội Đồng Nhà Trường thường kỳ sẽ vào Thứ Tư 14 Tháng Ba lúc 7pm. Xin mời phụ huynh tham dự. Nếu quý vị muốn đề cử vào Hội Đồng Nhà Trường, xin vui lòng hoàn tất đơn đề cử. Sự đóng góp ý kiến của quý vị rất quan trọng cho chúng tôi và tôi mong mỏi quý vị gởi về trường những ý kiến đóng góp liên quan tới buổi gặp gỡ giáo viên vừa qua. 6 Thứ Năm 15 Tháng ba chúng ta có chầu Thánh Thể như thông báo trong tuần vừa rồi. Gồm đọc Sách Thánh, cầu nguyện và thinh lặng. Xin mời tất cả tham dự. Vào buổi tối 15 Tháng Ba một số học sinh của chúng ta sẽ lãnh nhận Bí tích Hoà Giải với Cha Long Hải. Những học sinh nào chuẩn bị lãnh Bí tích Hoà Giải phải có mặt tại Nhà Thờ St Patrick lúc 6:45pm Xin cầu nguyện cho các em sắp lãnh nhận Bí tích Hoà giải, Thêm Sức và Rước Lễ Lần đầukatrina, Zandy, Casey, Nathaniel, Quan, Franceen, Aaron, Harry, Ivana và Helena Thứ Sáu 16 Tháng Ba Lễ Thánh St Patrick Chúng ta dâng Thánh Lễ lúc 9am tại Nhà Thờ. Đây cũng là Thánh Lễ cuối cùng cha Marice cử hành cho Trường trước khi cha về hưu vào ngày 15 Tháng Tư. Xin kính mời quý phụ huynh tham gia với chúng tôi, Cha Maurice đã lãnh đạo trường cộng đồng cũng như giáo xứ rất nhiều năm qua. Ngày Thánh Patrick năm nay chúng tôi yêu cầu học sinh phải mặc đồng phục và có thể trang điểm thêm nơ cột tóc, khăn quàng cổ vớ ---tất cả phải là màu xanh lá cây. Đây không phải là ngày mặc thường phục. Cám ơn Thứ Tư 21 Tháng Ba Ngày Hoà Hợp: Đây là ngày mừng tính đa dạng của cộng đồng và TẤT CẢ MỌI NGƯỜI THUỘC VỀ TRƯỜNG ST PATRICK. Chúng tôi bắt đầu lúc 9:15 tập họp tại Hội Trường và sau đó đi diễn hành. Các em học sinh nên mặc quốc phục của nước mình hoặc quần áo có màu cam, đây là màu của ngày Hoà hợp. Sau đó phụ huynh sẽ dự tiệc trà ở dưới mái hiên của hội trường và các em học sinh sẽ ăn cam. Trong ngày các em sẽ sinh hoạt cùng với lớp bảo trợ. TIN CỘNG ĐỒNG Thứ Hai 26 Tháng Ba chúng ta bắt đầu Tuần Thánh với buổi Rước Lá. Trong suốt tuần học sinh sẽ có những sinh hoạt tưởng nhớ cuộc hành trình của Chúa Giêsuđến nơi đóng đinh.
