2 Message from the HEAD OF SECONDARY GIRLS As a parent, choosing the right school for your daughter is one of the most important decisions and greatest gifts you can give your child. Since 1919 Calrossy Anglican School has been that choice. We are a Christian school, with this faith underpinning school life and our values. At the same time Calrossy has a proud history of educating girls from diverse faiths and backgrounds, in keeping with our values of inclusiveness, selflessness, integrity and resilience. At Calrossy each girl is personally known and cared for. Her education and wellbeing are our greatest priorities. Calrossy strives for academic excellence but moreover we strive to bring out the best in every girl and support them on their personal learning journey. The small nature of our Brisbane Street Campus means we can offer the girls the advantages of a personalised education with the benefits and resources of a much larger school. Students experience close relationships, with each other and staff. Our HSC results are continually among the best in the region. In 2015 we had two girls achieve first place in the State in HSC subjects. In 2016, Calrossy was once again the best performing New England School in the HSC. At Calrossy we also ensure special attention is given to meeting the needs of every student in the most relevant way; this includes learning support as well as extension and enrichment. The wellbeing of, and caring for, our students is paramount at Calrossy - it is an environment designed specifically to educate and care for girls in a setting where they can thrive and grow. Our Brisbane Street Campus is tailored to meet the specific pastoral and academic needs of girls, during the crucial years of adolescence. It is important to us that every girl has a sense of belonging and worth as an individual and part of the wider Calrossy community. 4 Calrossy GIRLS achieve in the classroom Calrossy is a unique learning environment offering gender specific education for your daughter from the Years 7 through to 10, before combining for mixed classes in the senior years. This allows us to tailor teaching and pastoral care to meet the gender specific needs of girls. An environment designed specifically for girls is successful for girls. The most effective of these schools ensure that every lesson, everyday is planned with a clear understanding of what girls need. Calrossy Anglican School s Brisbane Street Campus is such a place. Calrossy is a non-selective school, that in addition to a diverse range of academic subjects, also offers skill based, practical courses and has strong partnerships with TAFE New England and the University of New England. Class sizes are small. This allows for a closer interaction between the teacher and the student. It also allows for strong personal relationships to be built. While every girl is unique, classroom management strategies can target the ways that girls tend to learn most effectively and their areas of interest. These include collaborative work and discussions using the girls natural desire to talk. Learning enrichment is available to all girls, ranging from the gifted to those with learning difficulties, who are supported through the School s Independent Learning Centre. Calrossy girls are encouraged to aim for achievement in all aspects of School life and given every opportunity in their chosen academic and co-curricular pursuits. Calrossy places emphasis on developing students who are 21st Century learners. Our School has become a leader in the learning of Information Communication Technologies and once again was the best performing school in the New England in the 2016 HSC. * *Calrossy had the greatest number of top band results than any other school in the region and the only school to be recognised in the State s Top 150 School s List by the Sydney Morning Herald.

6 Calrossy Girls Beyond the Classroom At Calrossy Anglican School the co-curricular program is seen as an invaluable part of your daughter s education providing additional experiences for learning and growth. These opportunities include Equestrian, Music, Creative and Performing Arts and Agriculture. At Calrossy girls have the chance to learn Agriculture in the context of a working school farm, Tangara, and a fully operational cattle stud, Kamilaroi Shorthorns, located just outside Tamworth. The School s Cattle Team has a busy and productive calendar throughout the year, with our girls winning the Grand Champion Parader and Junior Beef Judge titles at the 2016 Sydney Royal Easter Show. On horseback, Calrossy has won the prestigious best school title at the North West Equestrian Expo for the last four years. In Music, Calrossy currently boasts 14 emsembles and had three students placed in the top ten of Music 1 in the HSC in recent years. Calrossy has a proud sporting history and offers diverse opportunities on the sporting field, from individual to team sports. The School believes that students should be encouraged to explore skills across a wide range of sports. Our Secondary Girls field teams in more than a dozen local competitions from Waterpolo, Soccer, Netball, Hockey, Futsal and Tennis. Students have pathways to compete at a Regional, State and National level through school sporting representation. The Secondary Girls Expedition Program strives to provide unique, challenging and illuminating experiences that develop and nourish each girl. These expeditions are specifically tailored towards the growth of our girls and target themes such as being a good friend, responsibility, it s not all about me, teamwork & tenacity and leadership and positive legacy

7 Calrossy Girls Boarding Calrossy has a rich boarding history and strives to meet the individual needs of every girl. Our aim within the Calrossy Boarding Community is to provide students with an environment in which all members conduct themselves with dignity, tolerance, integrity, kindness and respect for others and themselves. With around 200 girl boarders accommodated on two separate boarding campuses, we have the opportunity to maintain an environment as close to home as possible. Girls are able to access WiFi and resources of the whole School. Throughout the boarding years firm friendships are forged and rich experiences are enjoyed. Boarders leave Calrossy prepared for the challenges and rewards of life beyond school. Calrossy has its own in-house catering team which works to provide nutritious and tasty meals for all our boarders. Lunch and morning tea are also available for all our secondary day students. To care for the health of all our students the Health Centre operates 24 hours during the school term. Calrossy Girls Wellbeing At Calrossy we aim to provide a rich and supportive environment for the personal, spiritual and social development of your daughter a setting where girls can thrive. We support and nuture our girls on their learning journey and allow them to discover the rewards of the values that underpin Calrossy s Christian philosophy selflessness, inclusiveness, resilience and integrity. Calrossy has a proven and established wellbeing program implemented both within and outside the classroom. Girls are assigned to Mentor Groups according to Houses and these are designed to encourage peer friendships, support and a sense of social responsibility between the year groups. In addition, there are a wide range of Wellbeing initiatives and programs, including Peer Support, community service, leadership, anti-bullying and social media awareness programs. The Head of Wellbeing, School Chaplain, Psychologist, Welfare Support and all academic staff ensure there are many avenues for students to seek advice or support. These staff also assist students wanting to develop leadership and community service skills within the wider community, Church or charities.
