ST DOMINIC S PRE-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 7 1 June 2016 Pre-School 25th Birthday Tea Pre-school hosted a 25th birthday celebration tea on 20 May for staff and guests. We were very fortunate to have Mrs Rosa Callaca with us who was instrumental in initiating the first two Grade 0 classes in Along with her we were pleased to host Mrs Pam Jurgens, the Pre-schools first Principal. She flew in from Australia to spend the morning with us. Eloise du Plessis (nee Miss Jackson) Belinda Kruger (Pre-school's first HOD) and Tarryn Simcock (nee Miss van Velzen) were all here to celebrate our birthday with us. Other guests included our Board Members, PTP members and the Principals of both St Dunstans and Woodlands Pre-schools. Over 600 girls (Grade 1 Grade 12) received a celebratory balloon from Pre-school as they were all Pre-school Old Girls. One School, One Family, One Spirit
Page 2 ST DOMINIC S PRE-SCHOOL Thank you To all our parents for ensuring that our girls look smart and neat in their winter uniform. We are proud of our Smart St Dominic s Girls. Congratulations To Scarlet Camacho and family on the birth of her baby brother, Tiago. To Hayleigh Pellow and family on the birth of her baby sister, Jessica. May these little blessings bring joy to your families always!
Page 3 ST DOMINIC S PRE-SCHOOL Funday Our annual PTP Funday was held on Friday 27 May. An enjoyable, busy and Fun day was had by all. Our Pre-school girls looked gorgeous in their Pink birthday shirts and tutus. There were squeals of delight as surprises fell out of Pass the Parcel The egg and spoon race challenged our girls as they negotiated a couple of obstacles while trying not to drop their eggs.
PAGE 4 ST DOMINIC S PRE-SCHOOL Funday The competition was on at the Cupcake Pick-up game (otherwise known as fishing game), as girls tried to fish out as many cupcakes as possible in the allotted time.
PAGE 5 ST DOMINIC S PRE-SCHOOL Funday The girls fitness was put to the test as they raced the go-karts around the track pushing each other and for some their teachers too. The excitement mounted as each girl was blind folded and had a turn to pin the candle on the cupcake. Roars of laughter erupted when the candle ended up in the wrong place.
Page 6 Funday The competitiveness of our girls showed as they all tried to score a STRIKE at Ten Pin Bowling. The sack races were a source of great laughter as the girls hopped about in their orange sacks. Our Grade 000 s almost disappeared into the sack.
Page 7 Funday Each Pre-school girl got an opportunity to make a Funday keepsake at the pottery station. Grade 000 s made spiral lollies Grade 00 s made a couple of sweets Grade 0 s made a cupcake Once fired these will be painted at school and sent home as a reminder of an exciting Funday. A huge thank you to Mrs Jenny Nunes who made Oreo lollipops for our Birthday Party and to Mrs Heather McCamlie.

DEBBIE. Day Please ensure your daughter only writes her initial with a capital and the rest of her name in lower case eg Debbie. When learning 9 Speech letters and we Hearing teach the Screening girls the sound of the letter and not its name. Please assist us in ensuring that what we do at school is reinforced at home! Catholic Schools week This past week has been Catholic Schools Week an initiative from the Catholic Schools Office. It is designed to increase the awareness of Catholic schools in the Parish. St Dominic s girls and our Headmaster will be at Mass at St Dominic s Church Boksburg this weekend emphasising the importance of this connection. Our girls have all drawn and cut out a template of their hands enscribed with words describing the fruits of the Spirit which are :- Faithfulness, Gentleness, Goodness, Peace, Love, Joy, Self control, Kindness, Patience. Our theme for Catholic Schools Week is Hands of Mercy. The teachers have been discussing how we use our hands and how our actions can and should be merciful, as well as the meaning of Merciful (forgiving, compassionate, kind, softhearted, tenderhearted, generous)
Page 9 School Readiness Our Grade 0 girls will be starting their School Readiness Evaluations from 13 June. We want to emphasise that we do not want the girls ever to feel that they being put under stress, and we encourage you as parents to assist us with this. The evaluation is a bench mark to evaluate where your daughter is and if there are any glaring areas of concern that need to be addressed. Mrs Nicola Kalil-Zackey, Mrs Candice Richter and myself will be doing certain of the activities individually with the girls while the class teachers will be dealing with other individual evaluations as well as the group evaluations. We would like to ask for parental assistance in the early morning from 07h45 08h45. We need the parent to supervise the girls during free play, while the teacher work with individual girl. Please let your daughters teacher know if you can assist. When you come to school for this hour, please park at the main office or you will get locked in the carpark. Thank you in advance for your time and involvement. The calmer the parent, the calmer the child. Grandstand building Readiness The final stage of the grandstand building has been completed. The tuckshop is now being housed under the grandstand on the right hand side, closer to the music room. On the left hand side, two change rooms and two sports offices have been built. The total cost of this project is R ,00.
Page 10 Carpark Etiquette Over the last few weeks we have experienced a number of unpleasant incidences in the carpark. All our lives are busy and we feel the constant constrains of time or should I say lack of time. Please can I ask that we show our fellow parents courtesy and patience while maneuvering around a very busy and congested carpark. Our actions and reactions are seen by our children and can adversely affect their reactions to situations. Please keep in mind speed limits and legitimate parking spaces. Thank you! Blanket Mass Our Annual Blanket Mass was held on 26 May. The Jubilee Centre was decorated with over 280 blankets. Such a beautiful show of time and love. Thank you to all our families who took time to knit and crochet and sew these beautiful blankets together.
