A special meeting to discuss the Highway 14 Project and how this will impact our school will take place on Monday, March 5, at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium. We are hoping that a multitude of parents and community members will attend this special meeting. Please mark your calendars so you can attend this very important meeting!! January, GRADES 1-2 MUSIC PROGRAM DATE CHANGE The Grades 1-2 Music Program has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 12, at 6:30 P.M. in the Auditorium. Mrs. Sherry Weis promises that this special event will entertain the audience members. Please invite your friends and family members to enjoy this wonderful event hosted by our special grades 1-2 students.

2 PAGE 2 DISTRICT NEWSLETTER VOLUME 18, ISSUE 3 Our next musical event for the School Year will be held on Saturday, March 3,. This is the Annual District Solo-Ensemble Festival. This special event will take place at Sharon Middle School during the daytime hours. The next event will be the rescheduled Grades 1-2 Music Program to take place on Thursday, UPCOMING MUSIC EVENTS April 12,, at 6:30 P.M. in the Auditorium. Under the direction of Mrs. Sherry Weis, the Grades 1-2 students will entertain parents and community members. The next music event will take place on Tuesday, April 17,. On this special evening, our Grades 5-6 Band Concert will be held at 6:00 P.M. in our Auditorium. Then, the Grades 7-8 Band Concert will take place at 7:30 P.M. Additionally, on Wednesday, May 9,, at 9:15 A.M. and again at 1:30 P.M., our Grades 7-8 Musical dress rehearsals will take place. There will also be Public Performances of the Musical on Thursday, May 10th and Friday, May 11th at 7:00 P.M. in the Auditorium. This year s musical is Oklahoma!! MR. MARK BAKER RETIRES MRS. BARB WEBORG HIRED AS LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE LIBRARY/MEDIA DIRECTOR The Walworth Board of Education accepted Mr. Mark Baker s retirement resignation on Monday, November 28, We wish Mr. Baker good luck with his second retirement! Mrs. Barb Weborg is the long-term substitute for the Library/Media position and is doing a great job for our district. Mrs. Weborg has two daughters that attend our school and is a wonderful addition to our Walworth School Family. We warmly welcome Mrs. Weborg to our faculty!! Mrs. Barb Weborg PARENT ACCESS TO STANDARDSSCORE ON-LINE REPORTING SYSTEM All Walworth families are highly encouraged to log-in and use our StandardsScore on-line reporting system to monitor your child s academic progress on a weekly basis. If you have computer access with internet capability, you can log into this website: When you go to this website, you will need to input your user name and password that was mailed to you in September. 3 PAGE 3 DISTRICT NEWSLETTER VOLUME 18, ISSUE 3 GRADES 5-8 MIDDLE SCHOOL QUARTER 3 PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES The Quarter 3 Middle School, grades 5-8, Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 16, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. This year, again, all of these conferences will be held in one of your child s teacher s classroom. This year, due to the success of last year s conferences, these conferences will continue to be scheduled events. Again, parents are being asked to let your child s homeroom teacher know when you are able to attend and a time will be communicated back to you. For a second consecutive year, your child s homeroom teacher will be handling the conference for your child utilizing our district s on-line program, called StandardsScore. StandardsScore is easy to use and we will use it to illustrate your child s academic progress in all subject areas. We truly look forward to all middle school parents attending this special communication event! SPRING ELEMENTARY (GRADES JK-4) PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES Our Spring Elementary (Grades JK-4) Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 15, and Tuesday, March 20, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. All elementary grades JK-4 conferences are scheduled in advance so parents can coordinate meeting with multiple teachers if they have more than one child attending the elementary grades. We ask that all families please remember to return the scheduling form with a time frame for the conferences. We need to have many options available when scheduling these important events. Then, the teacher will correspond back and finalize the conference date and time. Each year, we work towards the goal of 100% parent attendance at these important fall conferences. Please mark your calendars! DISTRICT PUPIL NON-DISCRIMINATION AUDIT Walworth Jt. District recently completed it s Five Year Pupil Non-Discrimination Audit Report. It is posted on our District Website under the category of Equity Committee. Additionally, copies may be made at the request of a parent and/or community member. Please contact Barb Dade at the Main Office to request a personal copy of the report. Our district wishes to salute the volunteers who assisted with this audit- they added a nice dimension to the committee work.

Currently, the Parents Club is in need of parents to serve as officers for the school year. If you are willing to serve as an officer, please contact Parents Club at the above address. Saving Box Tops for Education ( Saving Labels for Education ( Participating in fundraising events Participating in one of the many committees for various functions and events GRADES 5-6 BASKETBALL INTRAMURALS PROGRAM The Grades 5-6 Basketball Intramurals Program is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 27, from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. The other dates that the program will take place are: Tuesday, February 28, Wednesday, February 29, Thursday, March 1,, Monday, March 5, Tuesday, March 6, Wednesday, March 7, Thursday, March 8, If needed, the extra date will be day, Friday, March 9th. All 5th and 6th graders (boys and girls) need to sign-up immediately in Mr. Hummel s office. The eighth graders will serve as both coaches and referees. This year s coordinators are Mr. Troy Hummel and Mr. Peter Kahl. IMPORTANT REMINDER: PLEASE REMEMBER TO UPDATE YOUR CHILD S EMERGENCY DATA SHEET Parents: it is important to remember to update your child s emergency data sheet, particularly if your phone numbers have changed or you don t wish to have your emergency contact pick up your child anymore. It is very important that our office has the correct data in the event of an emergency school closing or in the event that your child is ill.

5 PAGE 5 DISTRICT NEWSLETTER VOLUME 18, ISSUE 3 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WIN WRITING CONTEST These outstanding eighth grade students were award winners in the Walworth-Lakeland Lodge No Americanism Essay Contest. Each student prepared an essay on Why I am Proud to Pledge Allegiance to our Flag. In the boys category: 1st place Brendan Kinane, 2nd place Richard Silbernagel, and 3rd place Quentin Arnold. In the girls category: 2nd place- Maria Gutierrez, and 3rd place- Yeritza Carreno. Bottom to Top: Richard Silbernagel, Maria Gutierrez, Brendan Kinane, Quentin Arnold, and Yeritza Carreno SOUTHERN LAKES ANTHOLOGY These six Walworth students, in grades 3-8, will be published in this year s addition of the Southern Lakes Anthology. This year s issue has the theme of Aha!. We congratulate these fine students for a job well done! It s time again for the East Division Elementary Forensics Competition for students in grades 1-5. The East Division Competition featuring 12 school districts will take place on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 9:00 AM. In the near future, Mrs. Linda Wenzel and Mrs. Jennifer Koplitz (formerly Stelling) will be making presentations to the grades 1-5 students. Formal practices will take place too. All students in grades 1-5 are heartily encouraged to participate in this competition.
