1 Primary PE Sports Grant The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. The government is providing funding of 150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Each school will receive 8,000 plus an extra 5 per pupil each year for the next two years. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. At Birchfield Community Primary School, we recognise the importance of our student s health and wellbeing and the role that PE and Sport can play in this. We ensure that our students have access to a varied PE curriculum throughout their time in school and a range of extra curriculum activities that allow them to develop their ability and access opportunities to compete. Alongside this we demonstrate the importance of sport and the benefits that can be gained from those opportunities which they will be able to take into adulthood. We provide a range of different activities to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle and fulfil their sporting potential. In addition, it is considered that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extracurricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children. Birchfield Community Primary School understands that it is important for children of all ages to be given the opportunity to take part in physical activity and sport. We encourage children across the school to engage in the PE curriculum and also in extra-curriculum activities. Below is an outline of the funding we have been allocated as part of the Primary PE Sports Grant, how it has been allocated and the impact it has on achievement and participation. Sports Premium Funding Provision The Sports Premium Funding for Birchfield Community Primary School is 15,413. This is used to increase the quality and breadth of PE and Sport Provision and increasing participation in PE and Sport by: - To improve PE provision across the school through delivery in PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs To provide curriculum support and CPD for teachers and learning assistants To ensure the provision of High Quality Coaching support across a variety of sports To increase the amount of extra-curriculum of offer To identify opportunities for young leaders to develop and practise their skills through volunteering in schools To improve the quality of materials for PE/Sport in our school.

2 Allocation/provision of the Sports Premium Funding Provision Cost (2017/18 financial year) Objectives Employing Sports Coaches Swimming Coaches 15, High quality sports teaching across KS1 and KS2. Extending the range of sports offered to children across the school. Developing staff skills within school. Building on the range of skills held by teachers, regularly updating a bank of planning and resourcing which can be used for lessons across the school, team teaching within lesson to build confidence when teaching some sports. Specialist teachers to work alongside teachers from school to build confidence when teaching swimming to all children across year 4 6. Developing links with local sports clubs especially Football, netball, gymnastics and Tennis After School Clubs 9,323 This year we are able to offer the children 32 after school sports clubs, with clubs specifically aimed at KS1 or KS2. Reception are offered their own afterschool sports club in the Spring term and in the Summer term are offered the opportunity to more clubs integrating with Year 1. Inclusion (cost included above) With the employment of sports coaches that specialise in specific sports and the employment of a sports apprentice, we are able to ensure that both curriculum and afterschool sports are accessible to all children. We run a change 4 life club and multi skills club to encourage KS1 children who may feel reluctant to take part in other sporting activities. We also provide outdoor education to include children who do not always attend after school clubs to develop team work and leadership skills as well as developing their confidence through a range of activities.

3 Competition/Festivals 680 Our membership to Yeovil Primary School Games gives the children opportunity to experience a level of competition with other local schools and to experience a wider variety of sports. Eg Golf, Boccia and Badminton. This has been mainly aimed at KS2 children but KS1 children have been able to attend a Multi skills festival. As a school we run a Football and Netball tournament that is open to all local schools that we run once a year. We also enter a Dance festival where children are given the opportunity to put themselves forward to represent the school. Lunchtime and equipment 300 (staff cost included above) Equipment purchased so children can play and take part in a range of activities at playtime and lunchtime with sports coaches and the apprentice running supervised activities. Each year group are given a specific day when they can use the play equipment on the lower playground. Ball free day once a week to encourage children to try a range of activities and interact with different people on the playground Sports Kit tbc We are currently looking into buying a new Football kit for year5/6 including socks for both years 3/4 and 5/6 and increasing the number of T shirts we have for children attending of site activities. The purchase of necessary equipment to ensure that any kit that has been either lost or broken over the year is replaced, to ensure children are appropriately dressed and equipped.

Increase in the number of children attending the range of after-school clubs on offer. Children attending these clubs regularly have also shown more improvement within their PE lessons and are becoming more familiar with the rules of the games and are working better in teams. Activities such as the introduction of Zumba, Gymnastics and Hoopball have enhanced the variety of our offer to pupils. With the vast array of sporting activities and the ability to split into ability groups offered as

5 after school sports, has seen an increase in the number of children engaging in physical activities. This is supported by attendance registers. The provision of football, cross country, rugby, basketball and netball is enhancing our children steam skills and competitive qualities in preparation for them participating in competitions in the future. Our sports coaches support children in developing their co-ordination and rhythm, memory retention, pace through our provision. With the use of specialist swimming coaches 4 children in year 6 can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, 16 children can use a range of strokes and 4 children can perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations. Children have a better appreciation and understanding of the importance of sports and the impact of this on their daily and future lifestyle choices. Sustainability of these actions from funding is gained through staff development and purchase of resources. The afterschool clubs in KS2 have been mainly focused in line with the competitions; these children have first refusal to enter the competitions to represent the school. It has been acknowledged by various co-ordinators who run the off-site activities the ability, enjoyment and positive behaviour of our children. Autumn Term children have represented the school, some more than once (context: 141 boys and 58 girls; 54 children qualify for Pupil Premium and 0 children who have taken part have Special educational Needs).
