The feedback we received was very positive from students, staff and parents. The students have settled in well to school and progressively we are implementing our student wellbeing and learning programs, our school values, as well as parent communications via newsletter and COMPASS. Tiqbiz will be used for reminders at times. Other positive feedback we have received is the high parent satisfaction with the school on the following; Responsiveness to student needs Clear whole school expectations on appropriate student behaviour Having the canteen 3 days per week Knowledgeable and approachable teachers and staff School Banking service Parent Volunteer Information and Training Session We had 16 parents attend the Parent Volunteer Training sessions yesterday. These parents will now be added to the Working With Children s Check Register and teachers may request that they assist in school events. We understand not all parents could attend so we will be holding another session on Wednesday 29 th of March at 5.30pm. Harmony Day Celebrations On the 21 st of March we will be celebrating Harmony Day. The message for Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs. It is a day to celebrate diversity and inclusion. It is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. Please see Mrs. Moloney s article further on in the newsletter about what will be happening at Tulliallan. Congratulations William Well done to William, who competed in the Divisional Swimming Carnival today in backstroke. William did an amazing job to finish second. This is a great achievement for this level. Digital Technology and Mobile Phone Acceptable Use Agreement Tulliallan has a variety of digital technology tools to utilise in the school. Our student devices have been employed this week and all students have had a lesson with Mrs Kettle about responsible and safe use of digital technology. On Friday your child will receive the Agreement to bring home to discuss with you and to be signed. Please return the signed Agreement by Wednesday 15 th of March. The Value We Are Focusing On This Term From Our 4 School Values Is Relationships. Each week students will be looking at a related quality or value that supports relationship building. The Supporting Value of the Week is Helpfulness This week students are concentrating on the value of helpfulness. Helpfulness is about assisting others and showing you are willing to help out at home, school or with friends. Congratulations to the students who received a values award at assembly on Monday this week for showing last week s supporting value of tolerance. Staff Car Park We ask that parents do not park in the school park to drop off or pick up children. 2 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL S REPORT Book Club Just a reminder that all edition 2 Book Club orders need to be submitted by Wednesday March 15 th. Please use the online ordering system LOOP if possible. All classes are in LOOP so please do not create a new class when submitting an order. Thank you to Sharon who attended the parent volunteer training and has offered to take over Book Club. I am still looking for one more parent who attended the volunteer training to assist Sharon. If you are interested please come and see me. Easter Raffle As part of our first fundraising activity for 2017 we are conducting an Easter Raffle. We ask all children to donate an Easter item to their home room s collection by Monday March 27 th. All donations will then be made up into hampers which will be raffled off for $1.00 a ticket. Raffle books will be sent home Tuesday March 14 th and are to be returned by Tuesday March 28th The raffle will be drawn on Thursday March 30 th. Please support Tulliallan Primary School s first fundraising activity by donating an Easter item and selling a book of 10 tickets. Bikes and Scooters It is great to see so many children and some of our parents riding to school. Our school policy is that all bikes and scooters must be walked once you get to the school gate and of course when leaving the school do not get on your bike or scooter until you have reached the exit. Unfortunately some children and adults have not been following our policy; please do so as we don t want an accident to happen. Canteen Canteen opening days and hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30am. Don t forget that parents are welcome to purchase a coffee or a breakfast item form 8.30am. Mad on Music Today Joanna from Mad on Music visited our Prep and Grade 1 students to explain the private tuition in keyboard that is available for our Prep and Year 1 students from Term 2. 3 Inter-school Sports Report On Friday, March 3 rd, Year 4, 5 and 6 students went by bus to Lynbrook P.S., for our first ever interschool sports match. We had teams that played cricket, soccer, badminton and netball. Everybody was really nervous but it was exciting to play our first interschool sport match. The cricket matches were very exciting and both our girls and boys teams won. The boys got 156 runs and Lynbrook scored 130 runs. It was a very high scoring match. The man of the match was Aedan with an incredible score of 46 runs and 2 wickets, he was chosen by the team s captain Kaiden. The girls team scored 133 runs and Lynbrook got 125 runs. Mia and Jyothika got players of the match, chosen by the team s captain Kajal. Mia was very impressive in the field with 4 direct-hit run-outs! In soccer, the match was interesting and fun. The boys soccer team had a draw of 1-all. Our goal was scored by Arshal. In the first half Waqar was goalie, Arshal and Dawoud were strikers, Ali was left defender, Jay was mid defender, Romaan was right defender, and Avneet and Noah were mid fielders. In the girls soccer match we had a tie of 2-2. Farida and Heart scored one goal each. We were ahead 2-1 but in the last 10 seconds of the game, Lynbrook scored a goal. Unfortunately in netball we lost both our matches. The mixed team lost 1-8 and the girls match score was Everyone did their best but we are still learning how to play and we think we will do better next time. We want to achieve our aim of scoring more goals in our next match. We had a close match in badminton but we just lost by 4 points, The Lynbrook kids were really nice to us and helped us because this sport was pretty new to most of us. Dylan was given an award for his great leadership and sportsmanship. We hope that we can win more points in the next match. We would like to thank Miss Tobin for making this even happen. This day was awesome for all kids and teachers. Written by: Jyothika, Sadaf, Yatee and Kiara District Swimming On Wednesday, March 1 st, four students from Tulliallan PS participated in the district swimming carnival at the Koo Wee Rup outdoor pool. William, Dylan, Mia and Emily were selected for this competition based on being the fastest swimmers at our tryouts. All four students received ribbons which was great for a first time school. The results were: 9/10 girls 50m freestyle 4 th Mia 9/10 girls 50m backstroke 2 nd Emily 9/10 girls 50m breaststroke 2 nd Mia 10/11 boys 50m freestyle 2 nd William 10/11 boys 50m backstroke 1 st William 12/13 boys 50m backstroke 3 rd Dylan 12/13 boys 50m freestyle 4 th Dylan Congratulations to William who will now go onto the division swimming competition this Wednesday at Noble Park. Written by: Dylan 6A and William 6B Harmony Day is celebrated all around Australia and is a yearly event in many schools. At Tulliallan Primary School we wish to acknowledge and embrace the cultural diversity of our community. On Tuesday 21 st March, students will be invited to dress up in their cultural costumes or wear orange. Students will participate in activities celebrating our diversity and a special multicultural lunch is being planned. Families are invited to bring a shared plate of food from their culture. All four students had a very successful day representing our school and competed against some very tough competitors from the other seven schools within the Hampton Park District. Dylan came 3 rd in Backstroke, William came 2 nd in Freestyle and 1 st in Backstroke, Mia came 2 nd in Breaststroke and Emily 2 nd in Backstroke. Congratulations to William who will be progressing through to the Divisional Finals on Wednesday 8 th March at Noble Park Aquatic Centre. *** LATE BREAKING NEWS *** Will came second in Casey South Division Backstroke.
