1 BULLETIN NO. 1 2nd February 2017 Dear Families and Friends, Welcome to the 2017 school year. I hope that you were able to spend quality time with loved ones over the Christmas break. A special welcome to our new families, including the Le, Sin, Yang, Di Domenico, Apostolou, Bonacci, Citera, Filippa, Ignatenko, Lee, Monacco, Nathan, Papadopoulos, Rennison, Rodricks, Stewart, Tran, Tsakiris, Weisshardt, Wilmann, Zakhem and Zarra families. A special welcome to Miss Jones and Mrs Slonim who join us this year on staff. I m sure their time at St Justin s will be filled with many fond memories. The children seem to have all settled in well, if their faces are anything to go by. They were pretty keen to catch up with old friends and make new ones as well. I think we are set for another wonderful year. A smooth start to a year just doesn t happen it s the result of a great deal of preparation beforehand. Thank you to all involved. As you can see from the Dates Ahead, First Term promises to be yet another busy term. Please note these dates in your diaries so that you don t miss out on anything that is happening at school. Thank you again for all those who have made me feel so welcome at St Justin s. Having known Mr Dickinson for a number of years, I was very much aware of the beautiful community here at St Justin s - great students, committed staff and supportive parents. I have soon discovered how true this is. Whilst it was extremely difficult leaving Our Lady s Primary School, Surrey Hills, where I was Principal for 12 years, the transistion to such a beautiful community made the move much easier. I m sorry that there wasn t a great deal of time for me at the end of the year to meet you all, but having spent time with Mr Dickinson, Mrs Ferguson and staff over the holidays, I feel very much at home. And of course, meeting the students and some of you over the last few days has certainly added to that strong sense of belonging. Originally a country boy, I have lived in Melbourne for almost 25 years. My first Melbourne school was at Good Shepherd, Wheelers Hill, which as you will know, is just around the corner. Over the years I ve had the fortune of having been in many schools, teaching all year levels and holding various positions of responsibility, including a number of years as a consultant with Catholic Education Melbourne in the area of Technology. In all settings, being part of Christ centred community has always been important. Over the years, that community has involved my family - Sharon, my wife, Micheala, Nicholas and Maddison (and Charlie the dog) - all three of my children are in secondary school this year.

2 Outside of school, I enjoy supporting my children in their sporting activities, which seems to take up most of my time. I also enjoy renovating our family home, which seems to be never ending, camping and visiting my mum and brothers on the family farm in north western Victoria - a five hour drive from Melbourne. At our assembly this week, I introduced the The Three Rs - Respect, Respect, Respect. Respect for yourself, Respect for others and Respect for our Environment. Whilst this is nothing new, they are important and worth highlighting. I m very excited to be joining the community at St Justin s. I can see why you al love the place so much. I look forward to working with you all in the future. As you can see from the Dates Ahead, First Term promises to be yet another busy term. Please note these dates in your diaries so that you don t miss out on anything that is happening at school. Miss Genevieve Jones Grade 2 Teacher My name is Genevieve Jones and I am a graduate teacher in Grade 2J. I am the youngest of three children with an older brother who lives and works in Canberra, and a sister who is a nurse here in Melbourne. I love playing netball and watching St Kilda play footy, and love sitting down to read a good book. I have been fortunate enough to enjoy some overseas trips, but look forward to hopefully many more adventures to come. I am so excited to join the St Justin s team as I embark on my teaching journey. Mrs Belinda Slonim Grade 5 Teacher Hello St Justin's! My name is Belinda Slonim and I feel very blessed to have been welcomed so warmly into your community. This year at St Justin s I am teaching Grade 5. This is my lucky 13th year of teaching. I began at a country school in Koo Wee Rup with only 120 students and lots of cows in the paddocks. Here I taught Prep, Grade 5/6 and PE. After being there for many years, I decided to pursue my passion for the snow skiing so I moved to Whistler, Canada for 16 months. My commute to work involved 3 chairlifts and 2 ski runs. In 2012, I began working at St. Anne's in Seaford as Grade 5/6 teacher and ICT coordinator. Outside of school, I have been married for almost 3 years and I have 2 fur babies, Betsy and Bentlee. I love to travel and over the recent years I have been to Morocco, Istanbul, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aries, America, Bora Bora and the Greek Islands. My background is Croatian (both my parents were born there). I look forward to 2017 and many years ahead working in the St Justin s community. Father Andrew Mandry A special welcome also to Fr Andrew Madry, our new Parish Priest. Fr Andrew, originally from Poland, has spent time in Italy and Tanzania. More recently he has been in the Good Shepherd Parish supporting Fr Raz. Fr Andrew is very much looking forward to working with us and hopes to meet you all soon. Whilst we will meet him at a school level over the next few weeks, I m sure he would love to see our families at any of the Saturday / Sunday celebrations. I urge our wonderful St Justin s community to support Father this weekend.
