1 Homebase Notes March 5 th, 2018 Congratulations to the IRCHS Math Team: Mr. Stone and the IRCHS Math Club decided 7 days ago to participate in the IRSC Math Olympics Competition. They competed against Vero Beach High School, Treasure Coast High School, Martin County High School, Sebastian River High School, Lincoln Park Academy, St. Edwards, Centennial High School, Ft Pierce Westwood High School, Jensen Beach High School, South Fork High School John Carroll High School, Ft Pierce Central High School with 30 teams in total. IRCHS Wolves Math Team 1 placed sixth overall, beating both Vero Beach High School and Sebastian High School. Congratulations to you all! 2 Tristen van der Meulen Leonardo Echegaray Ian Orzel Brooke Lindgren Jeanne Astremon Scott Spicoli Linsey Derival A BIG CONGRATULATIONS: To Zane Chapman and Michael Campion who, by audition, were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship to the school of their choice by the Treasure Coast Jazz Society! The Treasure Coast Jazz Society holds auditions each year for graduating seniors that are continuing their music education as a major or minor. The nominees are the Treasure Coast's best! Football Try outs: Attention all young men in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades: There will be an interest meeting for those of you who would like to play tackle football on Monday, March 5th, at 4:00, in room 82 (Mr. Smith's classroom). Come by and meet Coach Boyer from Master's Academy who will explain how you can participate in high school football. Safety Reminders: 1) Please do not congregate in the wooded area east of the brick building off of the dead end Lundberg road at the back of the campus. It is private property and students CANNOT go back there. 2) Students MUST have their parking permit clearly visible at all times. If you change vehicles for any reason please transfer the permit card to the current vehicle you are in. 3) Speeding is becoming a problem. Please adhere to the speed limit on all campus roads.

3 4) Parking on the east side of the Brick Building is authorized ONLY when there are no parking places available anywhere else. 5) Parking in the loop on the west side of the Brick Building is by permission only and only when no other parking spaces are available. 6) IRCHS sits on the campus of IRSC, therefore all students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately on both campuses. Students my not go to the Mueller Campus during the school day unless they are enrolled in a college class. No student may use the Mueller Campus parking lot in lieu of the IRCHS parking lot unless you are in a scheduled class on the IRSC campus. Volunteer in Sebastian Kashi Market (crafts, produce, buffet, activities) date: Sunday, March 11 time: 8-12 and 12-4 Please see Mrs. Frank in room 38 or lynn.frank@irchs.org to sign up and get details. Key Club Key Club will meet today during lunch in the Choir room Talent Show: The Key Club Annual Talent Show will be taking place on March 22 nd from 6:30-8:30 PM. We will also be joined by our wonderful Poetry Club and the English department and creating a new and improved Talent Show and Spoken Word Jam! Sign-ups have been sent to every student s address. Please fill out all details of the Google Form as we need to make sure we are prepared for the evening! Let s make this a great evening showing off the amazing talent at our school! All ticket sales will be donated to a student at IRCHS in need!

Spanish Competition Team Meeting: Thursday, March 8th at lunch in Sra. DelSolar's room. Final Rehearsal - Saturday, March 10th 2pm at the Patio Restaurant in Vero. If you are pondering the idea of joining the Spanish CompetitionTeam next year (open to Spanish 1, 2,3 and 4) - we welcome you at our final Pre-Competition Team Meeting Thursday (March 8th) at lunch. Cultural Event: Orchestra Concert MPA, Wednesday 3/7 The orchestra will be performing their District 13 Concert Music Performance Assessment on Wednesday. Their performance is at 4:00pm in the VBHS Performing Arts Center. Admission is FREE. Students who come to watch Charter and stay through the VBHS performance (finished at 5:30pm) can have Mr. Heroux sign off on their cultural event form. Cultural Event: University of Notre Dame Glee Club, Monday 3/12 The Notre Dame Glee Club, which has performed literally all over the world, is coming to Vero Beach next Monday, again at the VBHS Performing Arts Center. The concert is at 7pm. Tickets cost $10 for students ($25 for adults) and are available at indianriverschools.tix.com Cultural Event: Percussion Concert, Wednesday 3/14 All three public high schools in the county are presenting a combined percussion concert on Wednesday, 3/14 at 7pm in theyou guessed it- VBHS Performing Arts Center. Admission is FREE. TESTING UPDATES Current 9th and 10th Graders: You will be taking the FSA ELA Writing THIS WEEK!! You have worked so hard this school year.

5 Take your time on the writing and we know you will do an amazing job! 9th Grade Writing- Wednesday, March 7th 10th Grade Writing - Thursday, March 8th Students, please be at your testing room no later than 7:50 AM. 9th and 10th Grade Homebase and English teachers should have this list posted. This list is also posted in the front office and room 1. If you are still not sure where to go - please stop by and see Ms. Etter in room 1! Prom Tickets Available Today: Tickets sales are now open to seniors for the 2018 Prom, An Evening of Elegance. Sales are exclusive to seniors from March 5th, 2018 through March 9 th. Beginning Monday March 12 th sales are open to all juniors and senior students. The date of Prom is Saturday April 21 st, 6:30 11:00 PM. We are fortunate to again have it at the beautiful Grand Harbor Club House. The $45.00 price includes dinner and tickets can only be purchased at the school Cashier s Office (Room 123). If you intend to invite a guest who does not attend IRCHS you must provide an approved Guest Request Form, at the time of purchase. Guest Request Forms can be downloaded from the Student Tab on the IRCHS web site. You can also get the form directly from the VAPA front office, Room 123, or Room 120. Forms must be submitted in the front office for Ms. Aversa s approval. Please allow adequate time for this process. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A FORMAL EVENT. MEN ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR A SUIT AND WOMEN ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR FORMAL GOWNS/EVENING WEAR.

6 2018 IRCHS Prom: An Evening of Elegance! The 2018 IRCHS Prom is only 7 weeks away! Prom court nominations will be conducted via survey for Juniors and Seniors only starting on Monday, April 9 th to Friday, April 13 th. Nominees will be announced on Monday, April 16 th. Voting for winners will begin Wednesday, April 18 th and close at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 20 th. If you want to be nominated start telling your friends and classmates! King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be announced at Prom. International Exchange Student Miami Trip: A trip is scheduled for all interested International Exchange Students This Saturday, March 10 th. The trip is to Miami. The cost is $ per person. In order for this trip to take place all interested International Students must pay their $ cost by the end of today to Mrs. Havens in room 123. Seniors Grad Bash: Please make sure that you have paid the 2nd payment of $50 for Grad Bash! We have NO open spots and now have a wait list, so make sure to get your payment in! Please take your payment to Mrs. Havens in Room 120. Selfie Contest: Yearbook Staff is hosting a selfie contest!!!! Send us your selfies to be featured in the yearbook and we will randomly draw a name for the best selfie posted; you might be the winner of FREE STARBUCKS!!! Please send all your selfies to ariella.clanton@irchsonline.org before Friday March 9th Art Club: There will be an art club meeting in the art room 500 this Wednesday from 2-4 PM. CULTURAL EVENT OPPORTUNITIES!! Ksi Grey will have his senior solo show opening this Wednesday in the 500 building hallway from 4:30-6. This can count as a cultural

7 event! You must fill out the Google form for "Art Show Cultural Event" and take a selfie at the event with the art piece you choose to critique. The Under the Oaks Art Show is this weekend in Riverside Park. It takes place Friday March 9 through Sunday March 11 from 9-4 PM. It is directly across the street from the Vero Beach Museum of Art. IRCHS will have a booth with examples of art and promotional materials. See you there!
