25 Report Analysis The College analyses all Term Reports of every student in order to track and monitor progress Based on the Performance Indicators on Term Reports (Attitude/Effort, Participation, Home Studies, Behaviour) Positive - 85% of all indicators as High or Excellent - Bronze Certificate Negative: - 20% of all indicators as Needs Attention or Inconsistent - Letter and/or Parental contact - Support offered but a definite expectation of improvement needed

26 Homework Each boy s experience has been very different Establishing a set routine is important Regular patterns become habit forming Organisation and independence Allocate time evenly across subject areas. Homework Study Slips (Term2)

27 What is study? Reading is a definite expectation of all boys 30 minutes outside of teacher-directed reading. Preparation is making notes and summaries, revision, preparing for future work and exams, organising files in a systematic way. An Assignment is specific, teacher-directed set work, due by a particular time. This includes homework tasks and longer term assignments Student Diary Pgs

28 A Study Planner Provided for all boys and will be handed out and discussed next week as part of lessons Should be discussed, planned and shared by the boy and the family Should be a changing document Should indicate important assessment items and provide checks for their completion Should guide additional study Contributes to organisation and success

31 Getting Help Year 7 staff will be running their own homework club after school (Monday Thursday). Runs for 1 hour after school in Room 105. Maths Club Room 204 Wednesday and Thursday

37 Student laptop policy key points At school Laptops should accompany students to school every day for every lesson fully charged Data Data (Documents Folder) should be backed up each night to an external hard drive Laptop maintenance carried out by ICT staff may require the laptop hard drive to be erased reliant on backup to restore data

38 Student laptop policy key points Security Laptops are not to be left in a situation where they may be stolen or tampered with (e.g. In cars, Public Transport) They are not to be shared or used by other students. The partnership members are the only users of the laptop (Student, College Staff and Parents)

39 What will happen at home? Have students work on their laptops in a highly visible area. Somewhere where you can have the occasional glance at the screen No computers hidden in bedrooms Have open communication lines with both the school and your son with respect to problems, issues, suspect websites, possible security threats, etc use the partnership The College does not condone the use of the College laptops for social networking sites, gaming, etc. Talk to the College about some strategies to protect your son if they are using the above mentioned sites and this is causing issues at home Remember it is YOUR laptop at home, OURS at school

47 There can be no doubt that the ability of a Catholic school to bring to life the gifts and talents of a child, to create an ethical and formal network within which he/she can make decisions, and the ability to strengthen his/her faith, will indeed produce rich assets that will empower that child forever.

48 I readily acknowledge that schools cannot meet all the needs or aspirations of society. They cannot replace the fundamental role of families and communities in the formation of young people. However, schools do play a critically important part in the building of the character of young people and therefore the character of society.

49 A school confronts a never to be resolved contradiction: it must fulfil the expectations of those it serves if it is to survive, but it must change those expectations if it is to be truly educational. Open their hands to do their work well and to help when help is needed. Open their lips to tell others the Good News about Jesus and bring comfort, happiness and laughter to other people. Open their minds to discover new truth about you and our world. Open their hearts to love you and all people as you have loved us. Live Jesus in Our Hearts All: Forever.
