9 6-7 Lessons For Life Curriculum Alleyn s Junior School children are independent, confident and flexible learners, well-rounded and happy to co-operate with others. They approach their learning with empathy, courage and self-belief. They are thorough and focused, reflective, responsible and resilient. Every day my teacher makes it fun. She explains things really well.

10 We outdoors Beyond The Classroom Co-curriculum Our aim at Alleyn s Junior School is to open doors for our pupils; to challenge them; to inspire them. That means taking them out of the classroom and into the wider world, to bring learning to life. Enrichment and co-curricular activity enhances children s classroom learning, it breaks their routine and stimulates the mind and body, and it is an essential part of life at Alleyn s.

13 10-11 Outdoor Education & Trips School trips bring learning to life and are a fantastic way of enriching our children s education. Alleyn s Junior School pupils can expect to make numerous visits each year through their school life, from day trips in and around London to residential stays. These experiences are carefully planned to enrich every child s curricular activities. They are fun, stimulating adventures. Recent destinations have included the London Transport Museum, the Houses of Parliament, The Oval and The Unicorn Theatre. Closer to home, our Forest School, set within Alleyn s grounds, provides a wonderful weekly adventure for our Reception children when we take them out of the classroom and closer to nature.

14 Choosing A Path Clubs and enrichment Alleyn s Junior School runs a breathtaking programme of more than 60 clubs and enrichment activities each and every week, all designed to engage our boys and girls, broaden their horizons and foster a passion for learning. Our children can be whatever they want to be, and our huge variety of clubs offers something for everyone. Children can try their hand at swimming or cricket, chess or model building, cookery or dance and plenty more. An Alleyn s child will score the winner on the football pitch today and take to the theatre stage tomorrow. Each club is a mini-community in its own right, a warm, welcoming environment fostering curiosity and creativity.

17 14-15 Music and Drama Creative minds Alleyn s has a proud arts heritage, offering a programme which unlocks talents and lets imaginations run wild. Pupils take part in a range of dramatic productions through the year. Music is an integral part of life, with regular concerts and performance opportunities. All children have at least two weekly music lessons, including sessions with specialist teachers who oversee the Strings Scheme (Years 2-4) and the Wind and Brass Scheme (Year 5). All our senior children participate in the Year 6 Choir. Lessons are complemented by a wide co-curricular offering that includes LAMDA, several choirs, Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Grande Salle groups.

18 Field of Dreams Our sports programme aims to match exceptional specialist coaching and provision for everyone with the development of excellence. Alleyn s has a proud history of producing elite athletes whose journey to excellence began at the Junior School. However, we aim to enthuse every child regardless of ability. Above all, we believe sport should be fun and for all.

21 18-19 Safe and Secure Pastoral care Pastoral care is at the heart of all we do we respect our children s worries and if it matters to them, it matters to us. Our priority is ensuring every child knows that they have someone to talk to. A child s first port of call will usually be their form tutor, who monitors their welfare alongside specialist staff who have dual focus on personal and subject development. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) programme supports good mental health through consideration of different topics. We promote a healthy lifestyle, with pupils contributing ideas for school food, while fitness is nurtured through a wide range of opportunities for physical activity.

22 Facilities Alleyn s Junior School is housed within its own purpose-built accommodation and provides extensive, modern facilities. The school is set within 28 acres of delightful green space, making for a peaceful, tranquil learning environment. Our sports facilities are a match for any school in London and the perfect place for our pupils to let off steam, with all-weather floodlit astroturf pitches, tennis and netball courts, running track, cricket nets and a sports hall, as well as our newly-refurbished 25 metre, six-lane swimming pool. Our purpose-built 350 seat theatre, housed in the Edward Alleyn Building, is without a doubt the creative heartbeat of Alleyn s School and an inspiring venue that hosts wonderful drama and music performances all year around. With music playing such an integral part of life at Alleyn s, our purposebuilt music school fizzes with energy and activity throughout the day and provides two dedicated music rooms for the Junior School, the perfect place for our budding musicians to pursue their passion.

25 Houses Every boy and girl is assigned to one of four houses Jaguars, Leopards, Panthers or Tigers upon entry to Alleyn s Junior School, allowing them to become part of their own community within the school. Each house has a warm, distinctive spirit, and we make sure siblings are assigned to the same House to continue family traditions. Each house is led by a tutor, and elects captains and vice-captains for each term. House points are awarded throughout the day for good work or progress, community spirit or good behaviour. The house trophy Edward the Cat sports a ribbon of the winning house colour for the following week

26 The Alleyn s Family Community Alleyn s is a family school in more ways than one. Not only do many of our pupils have siblings at the school, but the warm relationship between the Junior and Senior Schools creates a uniquely close-knit, caring environment. Senior School pupils and the older Junior School children often become guides for their younger friends, act as sports coaches or simply help where they can. They are role models for our newer pupils who, in turn, strive to achieve the standards set by their elders. Parents play an active and valued role in the Alleyn s community. The AJSA (Alleyn s Junior School Association) is a committed and progressive parents association that has played a key role in initiatives such as the Secondhand Uniform Shop and various charitable events. The AJSA is involved with annual events such as the ever-popular Grandparents and Special Friends Afternoon Tea. They also regularly organise Founder s Day, our annual Holly Fair and Christmas parties, as well as many social events for parents. I like the big children because they encourage you and inspire you
