The friars gathered at San Alfonso Retreat House in Long Branch, New Jersey April Minister General of the Capuchin Order, Fr. Mauro Jöhri was president of the gathering. The Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Mary, whose headquarters are located White Plains, New York have been serving the Archdiocese of New York, since The Capuchin Friars minister and reside in Manhattan at: Our Lady of Sorrows Church & Friary, Lower East Side; St. John the Baptist Church & Friary, West 31 st Street; Good Shepherd Church & Friary, Inwood; and formerly at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church & Friary, Harlem. 3 FATHER JOHN GALLAGHER, O.F.M. CAP. Father John Gallagher, present pastor of the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers, was born in the Bronx in He attended St. Margaret Mary School [Bronx] from and St. Denis School [Yonkers] from He is a graduate of Cardinal Hayes HS [Bronx] in Fr. John attended Manhattan College [Bronx] in 1968; Iona College [New Rochelle NY] majoring in business. Fr. John entered in Capuchin Franciscans in 1971 [Milton MA] and perpetually professed in He attended St. Anselm College [Manchester NH] majoring in philosophy. From , he was assigned to Mary Immaculate Friary [Garrison NY] and studied theology at the Maryknoll School of Theology [Ossining NY] from which he received a Master of Divinity degree. Father John was ordained by the late Terrence Cardinal Cooke on 27 May 1978 at St. Patrick s Cathedral. [Cardinal Cooke was affiliated into the Province of St. Mary on 26 September 1982]. From , Fr. John served as associate pastor of St. Michael parish in the East New York section of Brooklyn. From he was assigned to St. Anthony Friary [Manchester NH] as a member of the formation staff and as promoter of vocations for the province. From , Fr. John served as coordinator of Capuchin Vocation Recruitment, with offices at Mary Immaculate Friary in Garrison NY [ ] and St. Michael Friary in Brooklyn NY [ ]. In 1984, Fr. John was appointed pastor of St. Michael s Parish [Brooklyn NY] and ministered in that position until Fr. John was then appointed pastor of St. Anne Parish [Manchester NH] from and again in , where is also ministered as administrator/pastor of St. Agustin also in Manchester. Fr. John was elected a Councilor of the province from From he resided at St. Veronica Friary [Orange NJ] also serving on the formation staff. Father John was appointed pastor of the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers, New York on 1 September FATHER JOHN MCHUGH, O.F.M. CAP. Father John McHugh, present pastor of St. Joseph the Worker [East Patchogue NY] was born in Yonkers in He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School [Yonkers NY] from Fr. John graduated from St. Mary s Seminary HS [Garrison NY] in Fr. John entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1961 [Milton MA] and was perpetually professed in He attended St. Anthony College [Hudson NH] from [B.A. Philosophy]. From Fr. John resided at Mary Immaculate Friary [Garrison NY] attending Capuchin Theological Seminary and Maryknoll School of Theology [Ossining NY] receiving his Masters in Theology in Fr. John was ordained to the priesthood on 8 November 1969 by the late Bishop Joseph Pernicone at his home parish of Sacred Heart Church [Yonkers NY]. Continuing his graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame [South Bend IN] Fr. John ministered as chaplain to the Sisters of Holy Cross also in South Bend. From he served as assistant rector, spiritual director and field education director at St. Anthony College Seminary [Hudson NH]. Fr. John was then appointed rector and vicar of the community of St. Anthony [ ]. In June, 1980 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.

4 During this period he also served as a Lector [philosophy] at St. Anselm s College in Manchester NH [ ] and assistant professor in Philosophy and humanities [ ]. Fr. John was also an active member of the Council of Priests and the Justice and Peace Commission of the Diocese of Manchester. In 1985, Fr. John was appointed associate chaplain of the Catholic Student Center at Dartmouth College [Hanover NH] where he ministered until He was also a member of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association. In May, 2002 Fr. John was elected councilor and served the friars of the province until On 25 August 2002 Fr. John was appointed pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Parish [E. Patchogue NY] by the Most Rev. Francis Murphy, Bishop of Rockville Centre [NY], where he also serves as guardian of the local friar community. He was installed as pastor by Rev. Msgr. Thomas L Spadaro on 1 December FATHER FRANCIS GASPARIK, O.F.M. CAP. Father Francis Gasparik, presently ministers as the Director of the Capuchin Franciscan Mission and Development Office located at St. John the Baptist Friary, New York City. A native New Yorker, Fr. Francis was born in 1958 in New York City. He attended St. Ann s Elementary School [Flushing NY] from ; St. Mary s Seminary [Garrison NY] ; Cathedral Prep [Elmhurst NY] ; St. John s University [Queens NY] and St. Anselm College [Manchester NH] receiving his BA [Sociology/Social Work] in Fr. Francis entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1979 [Milton MA] and perpetually professed in He attended Maryknoll School of Theology [Ossining NY] receiving the Masters in Divinity in During his Deaconate year, Fr. Francis ministered in the Capuchin parish of St. Pius X [Middletown CT]. Fr. Francis was ordained to the priesthood by the late Most Rev. Joseph Mugavero, Bishop of Brooklyn on 31 May For the next five years, Fr. Francis served in Vocation Ministries, recruiting candidates for the province. He resided at St. Anthony Friary [Manchester NH] ; Blessed Sacrament Friary [Manchester NH] ; and St. Michael s Friary [Brooklyn NY] In 1991, Father Francis was appointed pastor and guardian of the local friar community of St. John the Baptist Church/Friary 210 West 31 st Street, New York City until From 1996 to the present, Fr. Francis also serves as a provincial councilor. In 2002, Fr. Francis was appointed Director of the Capuchin Franciscan Mission and Development Office organizing fund-raising efforts for the recruitment, education, training, preparation and sending of friars of the New York-New England Province for service in the ministries of the Catholic Church. Fr. Francis is also well-known for his tireless efforts in support of the Capuchin Food Pantries Programs with his creative fund-raising activities such as the Doodle for Hunger, Women of Valor Tea and The Annual Capuchin-Franciscan Golf Outing which all support the economically poor and disadvantage. BROTHER TIMOTHY JONES, O.F.M. CAP. Brother Timothy Jones, who presently resides at Good Shepherd Friary in New York City, was born Mahwah, New Jersey in He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School [Suffern NY] ; St. Luke s H.S. [Ho-Ho-Kus NJ] ; and St. Joseph H.S. [Paterson NJ]

5 Brother Timothy was invested as a Capuchin Franciscan [Middletown CT] in 1960 and perpetually professed in 1964 at St. Anthony Friary [Hudson NH]. He ministered at St. Michael s Parish [Brooklyn NY] on the parochial staff from For the next ten years [ ] Brother Timothy began his ministry with youth-at-risk as assistant chaplain at Children s Village [Dobbs Ferry NY] continuing his studies at Mercy College also in Dobbs Ferry. In 1974 he attained his certifications as a general hospital chaplain from the N.A. Catholic Chaplain Association as well as in Clinical Pastoral Education. From Brother Timothy ministered at the Spofford Juvenile Center [Bronx NY] while residing with the friar community of Our Lady Queen of Angels [New York NY]. Brother Timothy, while residing at Our Lady Queen of Angels, ministered in Harlem and other sections of the New York Metropolitan area for over fifteen years such as St. Agnes High School, All Hallows High School, Our Lady Queen of Angels Elementary School, and the parish staff of Our Lady Queen of Angels. Because of his experience in youth ministries, Brother Timothy was also called upon to minister in several of the formation programs of the province including: assistant novice master [ ]; director of the postulancy program [ ]; and director of vocation ministries [2002-present]. While residing with the friar community of the Capuchin parish of St. Joseph [New Paltz NY], Brother Timothy ministered at SUNY New Paltz as a campus minister [ ] and Chaplain Div for Youth Services [ ]. In 2002 he was elected a councilor of the province while also serving a guardian of the local friar community of St. Joseph [New Paltz NY]. In 2005 he was reelected as councilor, vicar provincial and appointed director of personnel, director of continuing education and continued as director of vocation ministries residing at St. Conrad Friary [White Plains NY] and a founding member of the friar community of Good Shepherd Friary [New York NY] 2006-present. BROTHER CELESTINO ARIAS, O.F.M. CAP. Brother Celestino M. Arias is the son of Celestino and Rosamary Arias was born in White Plains, NY in Brother Tino began his primary education in Spain in His family returned to the United States in Tino continued his education at the Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School in Montrose and Blue Mountain Middle School in Peekskill, NY. He attended Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose and Boston College, earning two bachelor degrees [History-Philosophy]. Brother Tino entered the Capuchins in 1990, residing as a postulant in St. Lawrence Friary [Yonkers NY]. He was invested as a novice at St. Felix Friary [Mt. Calvary, WI] on 19 August During his religious formation, he ministered as teacher at Our Lady of the Valley Elementary School [Orange NJ], and as a youth worker and intern at NJ Goodstarts Grant Program, New Community [Newark NJ], and the Center for Family Life [Brooklyn, NY]. He fulfilled his post-novitiate formation requirements at Boston College Summer Institutes and Maryknoll School of Theology [Ossining NY]. Br. Tino earned a Masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University in 1997 with emphasis in social work and advanced generalist practice. From Br. Tino participated in a Cross-cultural experience with our Capuchin Friars in Brazil. He returned to the US residing at Our Lady of Sorrows Friary [New York City NY] also returning to minister at the Center for Family Life [Brooklyn NY] until He pronounced perpetual profession on 19 June 1999.

6 In September, 2000 he was named guardian of our new fraternity of St. Benedict the Moor [Roxbury MA]. Brother Tino also began his new ministry with Catholic Charities of Greater Boston as coordinator of youth empowerment and stabilization services, initiating and developing the Cape Verdian Family Based Services, the Teen Center at St. Peter s [Dorchester MA] and the Boston Catholic Youth Connection. Brother Tino, generously supported by provincial leadership, was invited to initiate interest among provincial membership by crafting an Africa Initiative now known as the Capuchin Africa Initiative for Development, [CAP-AID], to help foster social and human development; to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other infectious diseases; and to develop and support integrated, sustainable projects for the promotion of peace and reconciliation. As a first step Brother Tino spent over eight months with the Capuchin Friars of Kenya and Tanzania to better understand Capuchin life and ministry in the East African context, which has resulted in the development and support of a dozen social projects to assist the poor, sick, and refugees. While still coordinating CAP-AID projects, Brother Tino is currently living at St. Michael Friary [Brooklyn NY] where he will soon join the formation staff as a co-director of Postulancy and guardian of the friar community. Brother Tino will be awarded an honorary doctorate [Social Sciences] at the Commencement Ceremony at Boston College In recognition for his service as a Capuchin Franciscan friar and his work with the youth of Brooklyn, Newark, and Boston, and more recently his service in Kenya and Tanzania on 19 May 2008.
