3 WOODBRIDGE SCHOOL Required for September 2018 Woodbridge School is one of the top academic schools in Suffolk, located in a beautiful part of the county, yet only one hour 20 minutes from London. We are seeking to appoint a full time, ambitious and well-qualified graduate of Geography to join our successful and supportive department to teach up to at least GCSE, and preferably A level, to cover a full academic year. Applicants will be academically able, enthusiastic teachers with an understanding of how to inspire pupils with an enjoyment of Geography. 4 So what makes Woodbridge School such a special place? Well, above all else, it is an exceptionally happy school. When you visit I am sure you will be struck by the warmth and sense of community. But it is much more than a kind and nurturing place there is also a real sense of purpose. I am very aware that all our pupils will need the skills and attributes to thrive in an ever more competitive world. This means excellent academic achievement, and it is a given that they will receive that at Woodbridge, but academic results alone are not enough. The School is part of the Seckford Foundation which also runs The Seckford Almshouses, three free schools, and it also sponsors initiatives such as apprenticeships, a mentoring scheme and a grants programme. Being part of such a broad ranging charity is an exciting aspect of the job and brings governors with a tremendous range of experience. I am looking to appoint a temporary Teacher of Geography and to continue to promote the excellent reputation of the School. I would like the successful candidate to encourage the enjoyment of the subject and continue the popularity of Geography choices through to A Level. 5 An ambitious and well-qualified graduate of Geography is required to join this highly successful department from September 2018, to cover a one year period of maternity leave, to teach up to at least GCSE, and preferably A level. The successful candidate will be able to: Prepare and deliver challenging and stimulating lessons, with due regard to pupils individual needs across the Senior School age-range of 11-18; Regularly set and mark homework, with clear feedback to pupils as to how to improve; Engage in informal lesson observation and participate in the exchange of good practice; Set high standards and encourage all pupils to achieve their full potential. Other duties will include: The professional development of self and other colleagues through the appraisal system and beyond; Contributing to the development of the department and the School; Contributing to the extra-curricular life of pupils and of the School; Contributing to the formal and informal moral, spiritual and social education of pupils through the pastoral system and beyond; Being cognisant of, and having empathy with the aims and objective of the School; Marketing the School at every opportunity; Undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties in accordance with the changing needs of the School. 6 As a teacher at Woodbridge School, you will be expected to fully involve yourself in the extracurricular life of the School. You will also be expected to attend Speech Day, Open Day and Parents Evenings; and undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties in accordance with the changing needs of the School. The taught curriculum The curriculum at Woodbridge combines breadth with a strong focus on the major academic disciplines. It aims to provide each pupil with the essential intellectual skills needed for later study, including the ability to think critically and logically. The diversity of the curriculum is continued right through the school to the sixth form, where 25 subjects are available for study at A Level. What to Expect The Geography Department at Woodbridge School is an enjoyable place to work, being successful and highly-regarded. You will join a small, dedicated team and be expected to fully involve yourself in the academic and extra-curricular life of the School. Geography is a popular subject, with a high take up at both GCSE and A level. Resources The Geography lessons are taught in well-equipped rooms in the Belsted Building and seminar rooms in the new Sixth Form Centre, as well as having access to dedicated computer facilities. Both buildings enjoy a welcoming and stimulating learning environment. Field trips and our local environment are used extensively. Page 6 of 9

7 Qualifications and Experience A Geography degree or equivalent qualification; An awareness and understanding of current issues and developments in Geography; PGCE or equivalent would be desirable. Knowledge Excellent subject knowledge; Knowledge of up to date teaching methods; Demonstrate outstanding classroom practice; Knowledge of effective pastoral care and safeguarding and child protection issues. Skills/Abilities An ability to foster a genuine passion for Geography; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a high degree of emotional intelligence; Ability to inspire pupils of all abilities and enhance their learning; Clarity of thought and excellent organisational skills; Willingness to take action to confront issues and overcome problems; Ability to create and maintain strong, supportive relationships with staff, parents, carers and pupils. Have the ability to inspire pupils with confidence to learn and fulfil their potential. 8 Woodbridge is a wonderful place to live. Woodbridge and Suffolk frequently feature in surveys about the best places to live in the UK, most recently appearing in the Sunday Times Top Ten most desirable places to live in the East of England. Set on the River Deben, Woodbridge is close to the beautiful unspoilt Heritage coast, with places like Aldeburgh, Southold, Dunwich and Minsmere (RSPB nature reserve of Springwatch fame!) all a matter of minutes away. Woodbridge reflects the county of Suffolk with its low crime rates and high levels of sunshine, and has many places of interest close by, whether your interests are in wildlife, culture or history. Whilst in a rural location, with all the advantages this brings, Woodbridge is only an hour and 20 minutes from London, and also boasts a range of amenities including high quality shops and restaurants, with a good reputation for its food and drink.
