2 XXIX JOCS FLORALS ÀGORA SANT CUGAT IS St. Jordi s Day (La Diada de Sant Jordi the cultural festival of books and roses) is approaching and, as always, we are organising the Àgora Sant Cugat Jocs Florals for this year, the cultural festival of excellence. This year we will be celebrating the XXIX Festival, with many different proposals and activities so that everyone can enjoy themselves, learn and participate. The main objective, without a doubt, is our LITERARY COMPETITION which, as you all know, is open to students, former students, parents, family members, teachers and former teachers. This year we would like to encourage even more of you to join in so that we have more participants than ever. We are also organising the traditional talks with authors and illustrators, literary forums for all the different year groups (from Infant to Secondary), informal talks with actors and other entertainers who encourage reading, theatrical sessions, musical concerts and, of course, the Literary Festival which will be the closing act of all these different cultural events. On Thursday 19th April, to award the different prizes, the XXIX Literary Competition Ceremony will take place for the Baccalaureate students, parents, teachers and former students category. The literary tradition of the Jocs Florals is customary all over Catalunya and in our School. Students, former students and families can participate and obtain the recognised Literary Certificate and its corresponding flower: the Natural Flower, the Wild Rose or the Violet (and, at the same time, the distinguished consideration of Literary Maestro). The truth is that many of the texts that are presented each year reach the highest literary levels. We would like to remind you that you are all invited to participate (in prose and/or poetry) in any of the languages we use in School: Catalan, Spanish, English, French, German and Chinese. The XXIX Literary Competition Rules can be found on the CAV. We would like the St. Jordi Festival to be open to the participation of everyone and that all our families know about the activities that will take place in the different year groups. 3 1. GENRE 1a. POETRY: 1b. PROSE: 2. PRESENTATION JOCS FLORALS 2018 RULES STUDENTS/FORMER STUDENTS/TEACHERS a. RHYMING COUPLET or AUCA : * Level: Infant (P3/P4/P5); Primary 1/2. * Theme: St. George or free choice. * Length: Auca : Infant: 1 A4 PAGE (max. 4 squares). Primary 1/2: 2 A4 PAGES (max. 8 squares). Rhyming Couplet: two or more verses (max. 10 verses) that rhyme. b. POEM: * Level: Primary; ESO; Baccalaureate; Parents/Teachers/Former students. * Theme: love, nature, native country or free choice. * Length: maximum 40 verses. a. NARRATIVE: (Composition, essay or short story, comic) * Level: Primary 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 and ESO 1 & 2. * Theme: St. George or free choice. * Length: 1 or 2 A4 PAGES. b. NARRATIVE: (Story or short story) * Level: ESO 3/4; Baccalaureate; Parents/Teachers/Former students. * Theme: free choice. * Length: minimum 2 A4 PAGES, maximum 6 A4 PAGES. Parents/Teachers/Former Students: - All work should be presented and bound in plastic portfolios. - The first page should contain the following information: * Exercise Title * Genre participated * Name and surname/s of author * Name and surname/s of child/grandchild etc. and class group (if appropriate) * Contact telephone number * address - The second page will repeat the exercise title and head the literary text. - It has to be original work. One can choose the language or languages written and participate in any of the literary genre.

4 Students: - The special paper provided for by the Literary Competition (available on the School web page: should only be used when the work has been selected by the Language and Literature teachers. - Work must be original and can be presented in Catalan, Spanish and English (Infant to Baccalaureate), in French and German (ESO) and in Chinese (Primary 3 to ESO 2). The translation of an original text from any language is not valid. All work: Should be presented on A4 PAPER, written on one side only and respecting the following margins: * left: 3 cm * right: 2 cm * upper: 5 cm * lower: 3 cm Pages should be numbered at the bottom of the page (centre) if more than one page is used. Script Font: * Infant (P3/P4/P5) & Primary (1/2/3/4) written by hand and with beautiful handwriting. * Primary (5 / 6); ESO; BACC; Parents/Teachers/Former students: Computer typed (script font: Arial, size 12; interlined at 1.5). N.B. The pre-selected winner (from ESO 1 to BACC) will hand in their checked and corrected work with no linguistic mistakes whatsoever. 3. HANDING IN DATES 4. PRIZES * Students: Work should be presented and handed on the date set by the subject. * Parents/Teachers/Former students: Work should be handed in by Friday 9th March (to the School Reception or sending them via to jordi.ballus@agorasantcugat.edu.es). 1. NUMBER AND GENRE: There will be three prizes for work in Catalan, Spanish, English and Chinese (Natural Flower (Flor Natural), Wild Rose (Escaramujo) and Violet (Violeta)) for each of the following genres and sections: a. POEMS/ AUCAS /RHYMING COUPLETS b. NARRATIVE (prose, comics, short stories etc.) Work in French and German will be given Extraordinary Prizes (at least two for each genre and section previously mentioned).

5 5. JURY 2. CONDITIONS: The Literary Jury has the right NOT to award any prize if they consider the literary quality of the texts insufficient and award consolation prizes for any texts they feel fit. The verdict of the Jury is indisputable. 3. PRIZE GIVING: Prizes will be presented (from Infant to ESO) in the Agora Sant Cugat International School Jocs Florals Ceremonies and for Baccalaureate students, parents, teachers and former students in the LITERARY CEREMONY on Thursday 19th April at The prize winning authors will read their poems in public and should send their work (prose or poetry) to The School reserves the right to publish the winning poetry and prose text on its web page. - The Jury is made up of writers, journalists, AMPA members and teachers from Agora Sant Cugat International School. - The members of the Jury will receive the selected work of the finalists on Friday 16th March. - The members of the Literary Jury will meet in the School Library on Wednesday 4th April at 17:30, to deliberate about the winners from each section: POETRY: (ESO; BACC; Parents/Teachers/Former students) and PROSE: (ESO; BACC; Parents/Teachers/Former students). SUMMARY LITERARY COMPETITION OPEN TO BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS AND FORMER STUDENTS/PARENTS/TEACHERS: OPEN TO BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS, FORMER STUDENTS, PARENTS, FAMILIES AND TEACHERS. - Competition Texts: Narrative (max. 6 A4 PAGES) and/or Poetry (max. 40 verses). - Language: Catalan and/or Spanish, and/or English and/or French and/or German. - Deadline: Friday 9th March (section: parents/teachers/former students). - Place: To the School Reception or send to: jordi.ballus@agorasantcugat.edu.es - Prizes: Three for each category. - Prize Giving: In the Literary Ceremony on Thursday 19th April at 20:00. The Jury will contact all finalists. LITERARY CEREMONY OPEN TO ALL PARENTS, FAMILIES, STUDENTS, FORMER STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. - Day and time: Thursday 19th April at 20:00. - Place: Auditorium Josep Carreras. - Recited Poems: By ASCIS students and teachers. - Prize Giving: Reading of the winning texts in the XXIX Jocs Florals.
