On Wednesday, March 23, 2016 Parks and Recreation Employees (Chris Bass, Sharon Hunter, Lisa Castile, and Michelle Gould) and other Leadership Development Program students from across the city participated in Dr. James Worsley's class, Managing Change & Transition. Dr. Worsley used creative and innovative group activities like the Lego Tower Challenge to stimulate handson learning. The exercise caused the teams to overcome barriers and obstacles that were presented to them during the challenge, which correlated to many barriers and challenges that they face in their positions at work. In addition, all training exercises demonstrated and reinforced the classroom learning objectives. 3 BOXWOOD COMMUNITY CENTER Anthony Brown and Jose Rosiles are being acknowledged in Boxwoods' new Path-to-Shine Star Student Program which spotlights students in Path-to-Shine who raise their grades by the end of a school quarter or semester. Feel free to or come by 1110 Enoch Drive, if you have any questions about other programs offered at Boxwood. 3

6 FLUELLEN COMMUNITY CENTER This week, the seniors at Fluellen Community Center hosted their monthly friends and family day. Members of the group brought a friend to the center to encourage them to start using the community center more. 6

8 NORTHSIDE RECREATION CENTER Ms. Jamika planned a spring break craft fun day with the middle school kids. They took part in painting a see through craft in the shape of a fish. They also played Operation, Uno, Jenga and other games. Ms. Jamika also talked to them about Kids To Park Day and why they should come to at Shirley Winston and have fun outside in the park on May 21st. 8

10 SHIRLEY WINSTON RECREATION CENTER The girls mentoring program held at Shirley Winston Supercenter met on Saturday, March 19, The girls participated in a couple of projects at the center. Some of the girls reorganized and labeled the shelves in the closet of the Art Room. The other girls worked together to update the news bulletin board to reflect a spring theme. The girls take pride in chipping in and doing work that contributes to their community. Next month, the girls will participate in a painting class at Brushes and Beverages in uptown Columbus. The mentoring program is free of charge and open to 5 8 grade girls. Please contact Mrs. Tav Shepard at (706) if you would like more information on the program. 10

11 FOX SENIOR CENTER The members at Fox Senior Center celebrated Easter a little early this week and had an Easter Party with an Easter egg hunt. Yes, you heard that right, the seniors had an Easter egg hunt and had a great time doing it. After a delicious lunch we went outside and hid the eggs. After they posed for a picture it was game on. Ms. Valeria hollered I found the big one! when she found the golden egg. Staff gave a gift to her for finding the golden egg and to Ms. Dot for finding the most eggs at 19. All in all everyone had a great time. 11

12 FRANK CHESTER SENIOR CENTER The seniors here at the center enjoyed a fun filled week of activities. We started off with our Red Hatter s joining the other seniors for lunch. Once we finished up lunch it was on to Bingo with Well Care. Many seniors had questions for the Well Care representative, so we took a little time for her to talk to them as well. We all enjoyed fun, food and fellowship and look forward to next month s outing to the Bulloch House in Warm Springs. Next was our monthly Tea Party/Birthday Party and Karaoke event. It was St. Patrick s Day so we had everything decorated for the occasion. Our seniors dressed in many shades of Green for the occasion. We celebrated all of our March Birthdays and passed out gifts to the youngest and oldest birthday person present. We put on a little music and did the Electric Slide and a couple more popular dances. Before we left, one of our members did a little Karaoke for us. All enjoyed a great time. Lastly we had our St. Patrick s Day lunch. We left all the decorations up from the Tea Party and enjoyed one more day of fun. Gifts were given out to the three people with the most green on. After lunch and some quick photos were finished it was on to Bingo for the afternoon. It was a great afternoon and everyone went home full and happy. 12

16 TENNIS Local League Season The local league season will finish on April 10th and quite a few of the races could come down to the final weekend. The Adult 18+ league plays on Saturdays and the 40+ league play on Sundays. The current standings for both leagues are below: 18+ Standings 40+ Standings Jr. Team Tennis The Jr. Team Tennis League is for ages and they are introduced to competitive team tennis. Teams are grouped based on age and NTRP ability levels The program focuses on fun, fitness and the social benefits of tennis. Matches are played on Sundays at 2:30 and 4:00 and/or Friday afternoons from 4:30-6:00. 12U-18U Standings 10U Standings Facebook We use Facebook to inform players about court availability after inclement weather.
