It has been lovely to enjoy a taste of spring weather, finals are occurring in many winter sports, students are busy finishing off their learning for this term and the Clare Show is just around the corner. (See more details about the show in this newsletter) Staffing News I am pleased to announce that Kerri-Anne Hooper has won the Deputy Principal position at Clare Primary School for the next 4 years, starting at the beginning of Kerri-Anne is currently the Assistant Principal at Eudunda Area School. Kerri- Anne will meet with Beth next term to ensure a smooth handover of the Deputy role. I hope that Kerri-Anne enjoys her time as part of the Clare Primary community. I am also pleased to announce that Greg Gibbs has won the Student Wellbeing Leader position (formerly school counsellor) for the next 3 years at Clare Primary School. This gives the school great consistency as Greg can continue to lead the school focus on wellbeing and positive education. Festival of Music On Saturday night 22 members of our school choir took part in the Festival of Music at the Entertainment Centre as a part of an almost 1000 voice choir. It was an amazing performance with students from all over the state involved. Our students all did a wonderful job performing on the evening to a huge crowd. It was a long day for the students, leaving Clare at 6:45 a.m. for an all morning rehearsal before visiting the SA Museum and Library in the afternoon. Congratulations to them all for their involvement and efforts on the day. A huge Thank You to Mrs Borlace and Ms Purdy-Dart for giving our students this once in a lifetime opportunity to perform on stage at the Entertainment Centre and giving up their whole Saturday to accompany our students to the practice, during the afternoon and then evening getting ready to perform. We greatly appreciate this dedication and support. Group Photo Orders If you would like to order any of the Group Photos taken by Vanessa Size; Choir, School Captains, House Leaders etc. they are on display in the Front Office and can be purchased for $10 each. Payment must be made when ordering. Values of the Week Each Week we are focussing on two positive behaviours that we want students, staff and community to build on. This week our two behaviours are: As parents, please discuss these behaviours with your child, encourage them to practice these at home as well and make sure that we model the same positive behaviour. VALUES OF THE WEEK: Be your Best -Take responsibility for our actions Be Caring Look after our equipment and return promptly CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK: Children are encouraged to not leave jumpers lying around the school yard this week. If students succeed all students will receive an extra 10 minutes play!

2 Reward of the Week This week we have challenged our students not leave a single jumper in the school yard. This has been an ongoing issue with a huge mountain of lost property consisting mainly of jumpers. If we can go the whole week without a single jumper being picked up by staff, we will give all the students an extra 10 minutes play at the end of lunch this Friday. A worthwhile challenge! We may look to make these challenges a regular focus to positively reward positive behaviour if the students meet the challenge of course! Vintage Car Rally Next week Clare will be overrun with vehicles built before 1918 as the host of the National Veteran Vehicle Rally all week. These vehicles will be on display at various times across the week and on the roads visiting Snowtown, Kadina, Balaklava, Burra and Saddleworth. We hope that several vehicles will visit our school and give our students the opportunity to see these amazing machines up close. There will also be community displays Sunday afternoon next to the town hall between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and on Wednesday afternoon at the town oval from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. A great opportunity to take your children to see these beautifully restored machines. More information can be found at Hats Term 4 Please be reminded all students in Term 4 must wear a hat when playing at Recess and Lunch. If your child does not have their hat they must play under the pergola for that day. Please label your child s hat well! Early Dismissal A reminder that next Friday is the last day of Term 3. School will finish 1 hour earlier at 2:15p.m. Buses will also run 1 hour earlier than normal. We will finish the term with an assembly starting at 1:45p.m, straight after lunch. All parents are invited to attend. I hope that all families have a safe and enjoyable holiday break. Take the opportunity to enjoy spending some extra time with your children, make the most of the lovely spring weather and allow your children to recharge the batteries for a busy term 4. Term 4 starts on Tuesday 17 th October with Monday a combined pupil free day with the staff from Auburn and Watervale. CROSSING MONITORS TERM 3 Next term we have our Sports day on Friday 28 th October, three camps, yr 6 graduation, end of year concert, various transition visits and continuing the learning programs of this year. It promises to be a very busy term. We are trialling a new 4 week calendar in our newsletter each fortnight of what is happening in our school in the next month. Please let us know your thoughts on this and whether it helps families. 3 DI S DOT POINTS Hi school community, I trust you all enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend! As Pastoral Care Worker, I am happy to help in any way to make your school life a little easier so please come and chat with me or leave a message at the office and I will get back to you. Part of my role at school is to help out in classes and chat with individual students if they need to. Of course for any ongoing chats I can only continue to visit your child if you have given permission upon your enrolment. If you are not sure about this box on their enrolment form please have a chat with me for clarification. Breakfast Club is run each morning for students who for one reason or another missed brekky at home. Breakfast Club is situated in the room behind the hall, up the stairs and runs from 8.30am until lessons begin, can you please encourage your child/ren to come to Breakfast Club as soon as they get to school thus allowing their teacher to begin lessons on time. We serve toast, spaghetti/baked beans, fruit and cereal. Thank you! Board games sessions are held in the Resource Centre Mondays at lunch time during play. The children s entries have been down the past couple of years and we are asking for your assistance to help increase the exhibits as the children are the future of the show. All schedules and entry forms can be found on the Show Society s web site. The Show Society can also have someone from the Juvenile Craft section come along to your school assembly and talk about the show and being an exhibitor. There are many categories that children can exhibit in and children love to see their hard work on display. I have attached a copy of each of the following schedules which can be found on our web site. Sections for children: Juvenile Craft categories: Prep & Year 1. Grades 2 & 3 Grades 4 & 5 Grades 6 & 7 High School Students Cooking: 17 years and under on show day 12 years & under 8 years and under Produce (eggs) Junior Classes Fruit and Vegetables Junior Section Art Student Classes Under 8 Under 13 High School Students Create something from Fantasy Floriculture Children 17yrs and under Children 13yrs and under This year there is a return to the scarecrow section. This will be a display only, but the winning scarecrows will be displayed at the SA Autumn Garden Festival in April. This is a great incentive to have your school as part of the display. The Garden Festival is the largest garden festival in the state. Scarecrow categories are: 5 year olds and under 5-10 year olds year olds Open Groups/schools/organisations Entries can be submitted via the page clareaghsoc@gmail.com This will allow displays not only from the children but the school also. The colouring competition is also available to all schools and can be accessed via the Show Society s web site: clareshow.com.au. Follow the link on the front page. Entry forms are also available. The school display will be mapped out for easy access and the map will be sent to all schools. The Show office will be open from 3 rd October. 5 STEPS BALLET ACADEMY has opened in the Clare Valley and now have openings for further students. All teachers are qualified in teaching Royal Academy of dance. We focus on teaching safe technique in a fun environment. At the moment there are only Sunday classes available but by term 4 we will be offering classes through the week.
