1 14th March 2014 Dear Parents/Carers CHANGE OF UNIFORM notification of start of consultation period On the 1 st of November 2013 the School converted to an Academy and joined Ormiston Academies Trust. The school changed its name, which saw the unveiling of a new logo. Since this date, Governors, staff and the Student Council have taken this opportunity to consider the implications both for and against changing the school uniform more fundamentally. The Student Council which consists of 10 students from year groups 8 11 believe that changing the uniform could boost a student s self-esteem and self-confidence, stimulating pride in oneself and in the Academy, ultimately having a positive impact on students attitude to learning. Studies show that having a more formal uniform can also help to promote an ethos of high standards, high expectations and achievement; all of which is very much in keeping with the mission of our academy. As a result we have decided to open a formal consultation period during which we will present a number of options for a new uniform and request your views. We do understand the expense involved in buying a new school uniform and we have taken a number of steps to ensure that the transition to a possible new school uniform is affordable for all our families. The Academy has taken the decision that if a blazer is introduced for September 2014 the Academy will gift to each student currently in Yr7 10 a blazer which will include the new school badge. There will be no change to the sports uniform apart from a change in logo on any new items purchased. Yours sincerely Mr S Nelmes Principal

2 Consultation Timeline Consultation period opens 14 th March 2014 (stakeholder letter sent out) Student Council Working Party Meeting 19 th March 2014 (the student council will collate views from the students) Staff Working Party Meeting 3.00pm 19 th March 2014 (colleagues are invited to sit on a working party and will review the staff views) Parents Working Party Meeting 4.00pm 24 th March 2014 (parents are welcome to join a working party to review the prototype uniform. If parents wish to attend this meeting they must confirm their attendance via to Miss White lwe@ormistonsixvillagesacademy.co.uk so an appropriate venue can be booked) If parents are unable to attend the meeting, queries will be collated and discussed. Governors Working Party Meeting 6.00pm 21 st March 2014 all views from staff, students and parents will inform this meeting and the Governor s task to make a final decision. Decision announced 31 st March 2014
