1 8 th November NEWSLETTER Prayer Spaces Prayer Spaces in School is returning for its fourth year from the 13 th 16 th November for four afternoons, transforming our Music Room into a space for quiet reflection and thinking. The focus for this year is linked to the National Anti Bullying week theme of promoting difference and equality in schools with the tag line All Different, All Equal. The areas the children will be looking at will include forgiveness, looking at their own worth and value as human beings, understanding the difficulties in being seen to be different or understanding that we are not all the same and helping them take time to really see each other for who they truly are! We hope that this will be an inspirational week for the children as it has been for the past three years and this forms part of the SMSC curriculum. A Prayer Space in School can make a significant contribution to SMSC provision. To quote from the assessment criteria, we know from experience that many pupils find a space to express their beliefs, religious or otherwise, which inform their perspective on life and their interest in and respect for different peopleʼs feelings and values...and that they derive a great sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them, including the intangible. As in previous years, parents are warmly welcome to come and visit the Prayer Space after school on Monday 13 th November to see what is taking place and whilst Prayer is in the name, this is a national program which is delivered to Primary Schools in a non religious content and does not include preaching to children. It allows children to express their thoughts and beliefs in a way that is meaningful to them, whether that is through religion or own self reflection.

2 Y5/6 Cross Country at Hamble 10th October 2017 Stoke Park Year 5/6 Cross Country team On Tuesday 10th October 2017, eight boys and girls from Year 5 and 6 travelled to Mallards Moor to take part in a Cross Country Event against schools from all across Hampshire. The children were divided into three races Y5 Girls, Y5 Boys and Y6 Girls. Jessica and Edie started proceedings with two excellent runs, coming 17th and 9th out of 50 girls! Next up were the Y5 Boys. This race saw Charlie finish 8th, Theo in 25th and Max in 28th out of 60. A fantastic achievement for all the boys! Last up was the Y6 Girls, with Isla smashing the competition to finish 2nd and Hollie and Tia putting in PB s with finishing positions of 28th and 31st out of 60. Congratulations to all the children on a great run, particularly Isla, Edie and Charlie who qualified for the County run in February! Stoke Park Year 3/4 Cross Country team On Tuesday 17th October 2017, six boys and girls from Year 3 and 4 travelled to Mallards Moor to take part in a Cross Country Event against schools from all across Hampshire. The children were divided into four races Y3 Girls, Y3 Boys, Y4 Girls and Y4 Boys. Iris started proceedings with an excellent run, coming 12th overall! Next up was Seth. This race saw Seth finish 17th out of over 50 Y3 boys! A fantastic achievement for both Seth and Iris! Next up were the Y4 girls, with both Lottie and Isobel getting off to a flying start, putting in personal bests and gaining finishing positions of 12th and 21st out of over 50! Last up were the Y4 boys, with Anthony and Daniel smashing the competition of over 60 boys, coming 3rd and 12th respectively! Congratulations to all the children on a great run, particularly Anthony, who has qualified for the County run in February!

3 Y3/4/5 Dodgeball Festival at Fair Oak 7th November 2017 Stoke Park Year 3/4/5 Dodgeball team (Pictured above) On Tuesday 7th November 2017, seven boys and girls from Year 3, 4 and 5 travelled to Fair Oak Junior School to take part in a dodgeball event against schools from Eastleigh and Hedge End. The children started off with some warm ups led by Eastleigh and Winchester s Chair of Sport, Mrs Wallace. They then participated in Dodgeball Alley, a game of speed and tactics where their dodging skills were put to the test as they ran from one side of the hall to the other, trying to dodge the balls! Then came the games Stoke Park were up against fierce competition, facing Fair Oak and Upham. After several games and some excellent throws, dodges and catches, Stoke Park finished the tournament unbeaten, which meant a 1st place finish! Congratulations to our dodgeball champions on some great dodging, you are all superstars!

4 Christmas Card Competition We are running a Christmas Card Competition for all children in school. The winning entry will be used on the Christmas cards that we send out this year. If you would like your child to enter the competition they should submit their entry on a piece of paper no larger than A4 by Monday 20 th November. We look forward to receiving some amazing Christmassy designs! Year 6 Residential to Condover Hall The children arrived safely on Monday afternoon and they are all having a lovely time. Unfortunately, there are a few issues with the Wi-Fi connection, and so the staff at Condover are unable to post news on the school website. Consent form for taking photographs and film In order to comply with Data Protection legislation we are sending out a form to all parents to complete to give consent for your child s photograph to be used. Please return the form to school by Thursday 16 th November. Year 3 Trip to Portsmouth As part of their RE and Geography topics Year 3 will visit Portsmouth on 22 nd November. Children will bring home a letter today with the details. Please return the permission slip by Wednesday 15 th November. Year 4 Swimming Children will receive a letter today requesting details of their swimming ability. Please return the reply slip to school by Thursday 16 th November at the very latest so that we can plan this activity. Parents Evening Appointments Please could I ask that you take a moment to complete the questionnaire at the end of the newsletter and return it to school? We would like to know how you found the bookings system for parents evening this term. Thank you in anticipation of your support. Quick Messages and Reminders Drop In - Mr Johnson and a school Governor will be holding a drop-in for parents on Tuesday 14 th November from pm. If there is anything that you would like to discuss please just sign in at reception. Remembrance Day - Poppies will be on sale and will be taken round to classes daily until the end of this week. The British Legion will accept the old 1 coins this year, so if you still have any these can be used for donations. Inset Day - The school will be closed on Friday 17 th November for an Inset Day. Christmas Lunch Please return the Christmas Lunch order by Friday 10 th November.
