3 ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS Record Examination Results for New Hall GCSE 2017 This year, New Hall School students celebrated the school s best ever GCSE results. A record 54% of grades were at A*/A and a record 190 modules awarded 100%. A number of students celebrated 100% overall in their Science GCSEs. A quarter of grades were awarded at A* or 8+, an increase that bucked the national trend. New Hall Preparatory Division also celebrated a record 95% of grades at A*/A for twenty 11- year olds who achieved Level 1 GCSE in their Politics Academic Projects. 100% gained A*-B. Students from both our Girls & Boys Divisions achieved excellent grades, with an almost equal number of girls and boys among our top performers. This demonstrates once again the success of single-sex teaching for this age group. These fantastic results and New Hall s success as the TES Independent School of the Year show the strengths of Catholic independent education and reflect the quality and breadth of the curriculum at New Hall. A Level 2017 Sixth Form students from New Hall School, the overall TES Independent School of the Year , celebrated another year of excellent A Level results and success in achieving the university places of their choice. A record six Oxbridge places were secured for 2017, with three further offers for Once again we had strong results across the board at New Hall, including a remarkable 100% achieved in 45 A Level modules. The average point score per student equates to A, A, B at A Level, which enabled the vast majority of our students to secure their university place of choice. Given the exceptional competition for Oxbridge places, at New Hall we are delighted to have celebrated a record ten successes, for an impressive range of subjects: Law Biological Sciences Biochemistry Mathematics Economics Music History Spanish & Russian Theology & Religion.

8 MOST ABLE & TALENTED New Hall School has a thriving programme of activities that stretches and challenges our most academically able. We believe that the learning habits required to achieve academic success can be nurtured in all our students and that even the most able can develop to even higher levels when set intellectual challenges and opportunities to think creatively. Through careful use of setting and an extensive academic co-curricular programme, our most able students are given the encouragement and opportunities to stretch themselves and to produce outstanding results. Our focus on developing students learning habits, whilst inspiring a lifelong love for their subjects, equips them with the skills and motivation they need to excel as they face the more challenging material at A Level. Furthermore, our excellent pastoral system is able to support our most able students to ensure, that above all else, they maintain a healthy balance in their studies and that they have the independence and confidence to succeed at university and beyond. This performance can be illustrated by comparing the performance of our most academically able students (those in the top sets/top third of their cohorts) in Years 11 and 13. 9 OXBRIDGE SUCCESS Last year we were delighted to celebrate record places confirmed at Oxford and Cambridge, for an impressive range of subjects: Law, Biological Sciences, Music, History, Spanish & Russian, and Theology & Religion. It is fantastic to see students achieve success in such a wide range of humanities and STEM subject areas, reflecting the breadth and strength of a New Hall education. This year four Year 13 students have all received conditional offers: Head Girl Constance Day has an offer from Trinity College, Cambridge, to read History; Deputy Head Girl Elizabeth Skells has an offer from Hertford College, Oxford, to read Biochemistry; Jin Luo has an offer from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, to read Economics; and New Hallian, Lucy Greenwood (New Hall ) has an offer from St Peter s College, Oxford, to read Mathematics.
