Value of the Half Term Compassion Isaiah 30:18 Newsletter Issue 6 Week ending Friday 13 th October Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you ; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. 5W Family Assembly 5W performed their Family Assembly based on our LUNAR Launchpad topic of Remembrance and World War One. Mr Phillips' Drama classes are really paying off- the performance of Flanders Fields brought a tear to everyone's eye! Well done children and thank you parents/family for attending.

2 Mrs Rynn The Governing Body at St Ann s has been approached in relation to supporting the leadership at Spinney Avenue Church of England Primary School in Halton, following the resignation of their existing Headteacher. The Governing Body has agreed to second Mrs Rynn to the school as the interim Headteacher for a limited period. Mrs Rynn will take up this temporary post on 30 th October 2017 and will remain at the school until the end of the Spring Term. In her absence, Mrs Wilkinson (Executive Principal) will take over Mrs Rynn s duties at St Ann s. This is a very exciting opportunity for Mrs Rynn and one which will really enhance her professionally. We therefore trust that parents will support this decision. Mrs Rynn will resume her leadership duties at St Ann s at the start of the Summer Term. Better Learning Together (BLT) BLT will be re-commencing after the half term. By now you will have received a letter about this. If you have any questions about BLT, please do not hesitate to speak to your child s class teacher about this. Mentoring Conversations Mentoring Conversations will take place week commencing 30 th October (first week back after half term). Mentoring Conversations provide an opportunity for you to find out about your child s current levels of attainment and the progress they are making. Mentoring Conversations take place between you, your child and your child s class teacher. You will be given a Pupil Profile at the conversation that outlines what has been discussed at the meeting and you will also be made aware of your child s targets in Reading, Writing and Maths. Please find below the dates of the Mentoring Conversations. You will receive further details in a separate letter from your child s class teacher. Tuesday 31 st October Classes 2R, FSW, 2B, 6F Wednesday 1 st November Classes 4G, FSH, 3M, 5W, 5MH Thursday 2 nd November Classes 1R, 1T Communion Year 4 will be participating in Communion at St. Ann s Church on Thursday 19 th October at 9.30am. Everybody is welcome! Edge Hill Students This week seven students from Edge Hill commenced their work placement with us here at St. Ann s. These students work under the direction of our class teachers, supporting children with their learning tasks.

3 Y5 Crucial Crew On Thursday 19th October, Year 5 will be attending Crucial Crew at Langtree Park Stadium. The aims of Crucial Crew are to enable children to become more aware of personal safety, make a contribution to crime prevention, avoid being a victim of crime, know what to do in an emergency, foster good citizenship and actively contribute to their own health. Children learn how to make a 999 call, tips for staying safe online, how to stay safe in parks, how to identify hazards within the home and at a train station and are given strategies for staying safe on Bonfire Night around fireworks and fire. Crucial Crew is always a very fun, but most of all educational event with lots of important messages for our children. We can't wait to go! St Ann s Book Shop Don t forget our St. Ann s Bookshop is now located in the main entrance. All books are only 1.50 and the selection on offer changes regularly. Celebrating Arts and Cultural Education As a result of the high profile which Arts and Cultural education has at St. Ann s, this week we took part in a short film all about Arts Mark. The film will be used with teachers across the country in order to promote the benefits of this curriculum area. Assessment Week This week was Assessment Week. Parents will be informed of their child s progress and attainment at the Mentoring Conversations that will take place in the first week back after half term. If you have any questions about your child s progress or attainment, please do not hesitate to speak with your child s class teacher. Teaching Assistant and Midday Supervisor Appointments School closes for the half term on Friday 20 th October at the usual time of 3.15pm (EYFS/KS1) and 3.20pm (KS2) We currently have a vacancy for a Midday Supervisor. Please see for further details. School will re-open after the half term break on Monday 30 th October at the usual time of 8.50am.

4 Bushcraft Residential This week we held a meeting for Year 4 parents all about a planned residential later in the school year. To secure a place on the residential for your child, a deposit should have been paid by today. If you have any questions about the residential, please see Mrs Greenough. Computing Week Unfortunately due to reasons beyond our control the Apple Store in Liverpool are now unable to honour our planned visits during Computing Week which was due to take place next week. As a result we are postponing Computing Week until the visits can be re-arranged. Swimming Lessons This half term 5MH will go swimming every Monday afternoon. Please refer to the separate letter about this which details what children are expected to wear and the time at which children will return back to school. Dedication of the School Year Service Our Dedication of the School Year Service will take place on Friday 20 th October at 9.30am at St. Ann s Church. At this service our Foundation Stage pupils and any children who are new to our school will be officially welcomed to St. Ann s. All our new starters will receive a Bible funded generously by the Parish Church Council. Parents and carers are invited to join us for this special service. Nasal Flu Vaccinations On Tuesday 31 st October, all pupils in EYFS to Year 4 with parental consent, will receive their Nasal Flu Vaccination. Children s University The next Children s University Passport Bank will take place on Monday 16 th October. To be sure of banking your child s university hours, please make sure they have their passport in on this afternoon. Library Buddy Visits Trust Rugby Competition A Y5/6 Rugby Competition will take place on Monday 16 th October. Watch this space for the results. On Friday 20 th October 2R & 5W will go on their first Library Buddy Visit of the academic year. On Friday 3 rd November 3H & 6O will go on their visit. These visits are planned to encourage an interest in books and a love of reading.

5 Young Carers This week Y1-Y6 children took part in an assembly all about Young Carers. If you feel your child may be a young carer, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Port, our Pastoral Manager, who may be able to offer you support and guidance. Coffee Morning On Friday 3 rd November at 9.15am we will be hosting one of our half termly coffee mornings for parents/ carers. The choir will perform at the coffee morning to keep you entertained, and Mrs Greenough will talk about E-Safety and our new digital learning platform; Makewaves. Curriculum Maps Before we break up for half term, you will have received a Curriculum Map outlining what your child will be doing during the second half of the Autumn term. On the reverse of the Curriculum Map you should be able to find key dates for next half term. Year 6 Height & Weight Measurements On Tuesday 17 th October, Year 6 will have their heights and weights measured by our school nurse. If you have any questions about this, please see Mrs Port who will contact the School Nurse on your behalf. World Poetry Day Rainhill High Blazer Fitting Unfortunately the Rainhill High School Blazer fitting for our Year 6 pupils clashes with our residential to France. Although the date of the blazer fitting cannot be changed, Mr Pout has said that parents can pop into the high school with their child before 4.45pm anytime that suits. On Wednesday of this week, we were lucky enough to have 13 teaching students from Liverpool John Moores University deliver Poetry Workshops to our KS2 classes. Over the course of their session, the children investigated the language and themes of the poem as well as learning to perform the poem. Year 4, 5 and 6 then performed their poems to each other - a real high to end the morning on! Year 3 also performed their poem to KS1 in today's assembly. Thank you very much to LJMU and the students for their hard work!

6 Supporting the Work of Other Schools Next Week Mrs Hood will lead on a Wave 3 Maths programme for EYFS Practitioners across the region. Miss Middlehurst will support a Year 2 teacher in another local primary school and Miss Foster will lead on training about Calculation for the benefit of Newly Qualified Teachers. Staff Development Next week Mrs McDowell and Mrs Allcock will participate in Safeguarding training. Miss Middlehurst will attend training with a focus on Bar Modelling. Miss Buckley will attend Maths Calculation training, and all teaching staff will participate in Trust professional development focused on the teaching of writing. Anthony Walker Event Rainhill High School are holding their annual Anthony Walker Day on Wednesday 18 th October This event is to celebrate diversity and raise awareness of the work of the Anthony Walker Foundation, and I am delighted to say that this year our choir have been invited to perform at the event. The event is held at Rainhill High School and starts at 7.00pm 8.30pm approximately, in the Arts Theatre. Children in the choir will need to arrive at Rainhilll High Arts Theatre at 6.00pm in order to prepare. They should wear full school uniform and black school shoes for the performance. They will have a rehearsal in the performance space and the evening will begin at 7.00pm. There is no charge for tickets as they are asking friends and parents to make a donation to the Anthony Walker Foundation instead. If space is available the children will also be able to watch the other performances on the evening which will be a fantastic event. Toast Dinner Money Toast at breaktime (for Years 1-6) after the half term holidays will commence on the 30 th October For your child to receive toast we must receive your payment of 7.80 on or before this date. Payments can be made by ParentPay, cash or cheque. If you require a reminder of your log in details for ParentPay please contact the school office and we will be happy to provide this. To that end children are invited to perform during our Wednesday s Worship and Recital assembly. If your child would like to perform, please complete the reply slip below and return to the school office. Children wishing to perform will have their name placed on a waiting list and nearer the date of their performance they will receive an invitation. If your child requires anything for their performance (e.g. instrument, sheet music, cd, prop), they should remember to bring this with them. Occasionally it is necessary to cancel whole school worship due to unforeseen circumstance, when this happens if it is your child's turn to perform, the date of their performance will be re-arranged.
