8 British Section University Destinations 2014 Students were accepted by 24 universities including Oxbridge and the Russell Group. The most popular universities were in the US, Bristol and Manchester and 23 subjects were chosen

9 Entry Policy into PAL Students need 6 GCSEs, 5 B grades and 1 grade C Grade B is required in the subjects to be taken Grade A in Maths and English required for Economics Grade B in History for Government and Politics Grade B in History or English for History of Art

10 Why consider other schools? Your child may not meet the BS entrance criteria for PAL Subject not available (e.g. music) IB (higher h requirements from universities) Change to an English school ( e.g. boarding) Oxbridge and prestige Joining a new school in Year 12 Mrs Fitzgerald s (careers dept) advice

11 What is an A level? l? Each A level is composed of units AS level units can be taken in PAL A level units taken in TAL The main examination period takes place from May The examination is graded from A* (highest) - U (fail)

12 How many subjects may be taken? Normally 5 are taken in PAL including French 4 subjects are taken in TAL including French Exceptional students may continue with 5 subjects

13 Which subjects may be taken? French Physics English Literature t Chemistry Spanish Biology Italian History Maths Geography Further Maths Economics Government and Politics History of Art Art Detailed information in A level booklet

14 How to choose? Minimum grade B at GCSE Teacher advice University requirements such as for medicine and dentistry Future career Enjoyment of the subject Self-motivation

15 When are choices made? Information will be given to students before the February holidays on 6 th February On that day they will have a form to return after the holidays Not all subject combinations are possible Final choices form in March Changes thereafter depend d on class size and option blocks
