1 MINUTES OF TIPP CITY EXEMPTED VILLAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 24, 2016 The regular meeting of the Tipp City Exempted Village School District was held on October 24, 2016 at the Board of Education Offices, 90 S. Tippecanoe Drive, Tipp City, OH. The meeting was called to order by President Frame at 6:30 p.m. and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Roll Call: Absent: Present: Mrs. Frame, Mr. Maus, Mrs. Dunaway, Mr. Spano, Mr. Venters None Dr. Kumpf, Mr. Stevens, Mr. Gingerich, Mrs. Robbins, Mr. Verhoff Communications A. Tippecanoe High School Presentation Theresa Dunaway High school students Maya Vyas and Alissa Buynak spoke to the board about The Inferno, Tippecanoe High School s literary magazine. The Inferno is an outlet for Tipp writers to submit stories to be published. Submissions are anonymous until selected for publication. The impact on students is huge. Anyone can submit an item. The also students explained how the magazine is printed and sold B. Building Updates LT Ball, Frank Maus Lots of activities are available to the kids at LT Ball. The building received an overall B on the state report card and an A on value added. Mr. Maus listed available activities for the students. Broadway, Andy Venters There are many opportunities for parents to get involved with the school. Donuts with Dad was widely attended this fall and moms will get a chance this spring with Muffins with Mom. The principal, Mrs. Smith holds regular Coffee and Conversation with the Principal events. The next one is scheduled for December 7 th. Project More also allows people to get involved to help students. Nevin Coppock, Sam Spano Nevin Copock is the first experience that children have at school. Our kids have a great time. There was a recent visit from the fire department. Our middle school students visit the elementary students as playground pals. The elementary students recently planted pumpkin seeds, had a visit from the gingerbread man and attended the pep rally. The kindergarten recently enjoyed a fieldtrip to Fulton Farms and picked pumpkins. The 1 st grade went to Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm. Our seniors will be dressing up as superheroes and reading to the students and there will be Halloween parties soon. Tippecanoe Middle School, Carla Frame An exciting thing happened last week. A group of 8 th grade girls wanted to do something positive at the middle school. They worked with Assistant Principal Clayton Lavercombe and they were given time at the pep assembly. The group started an Instagram account to spread positive messages to their friends at the middle school. All students with smartphones were allowed to sign up to help spread positive messages.

Tippecanoe Miami Valley Career Technology Center Frank Maus Mr. Maus discussed how the Tipp City Board of Education appoints a person to serve on the board of the Miami Valley CTC. There are eleven members on the board that represent member schools and ESC s. Mr. Maus passed out a questionnaire for prospective members. He stated that he is interested in being appointed again. The board will need to pick someone at our upcoming organization meeting. D. Tipp Monroe Community Services Frank Maus Mr. Maus stated that community services needs coats for the coat drive. They can be new or lightly used. They group is also looking for student representatives to serve on the board. They also accept used eye glasses. Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent Reports A. Community Outreach Meetings Dr. Kumpf stated that the last meeting was held on October 20 th at the middle school. This is a positive opportunity to connect with the community in our buildings. B. Design Thinking Dr. Kumpf stated that the middle school design thinking class had an open house last Thursday (October 20 th ). The Martha Holden Jennings grant allows the program to buy necessary items along with other local grants. There are exciting things going on. C. Facilities Dr. Kumpf stated that the City has approved having additional reads on the shared contract with Ruetschle Architects, moving us closer to approval. We are looking forward to working with the city on this endeavor. The Tipp Pride Association is a new group that has formed to help obtain funding for the potential stadium. The district is working with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) to update our high school numbers. We have requested to have a meeting with our OFCC contact in November. D. Professional Development Mr. Gingerich stated that we had a great day on October 21 st. Dr. Callahan from the Greene County ESC did a presentation on brain development. We also had CTC representatives presenting on customer service. There was also safety training, library training and gifted training. E. Curriculum ELA (English Language Arts) Mr. Gingerich stated that the committee met last Tuesday and Wednesday. There was good discussion and surveys are being completed. We will be meeting with former Tipp graduates attending Wright State to find out where Tipp does well and how we can better prepare students for college.

3 Citizen Comments Mashell Stith, President, Tipp Pride Association Introduced the board to the new Tipp Pride Association and talked about their goal of working with the community to fundraise for a new stadium in the district. A flier was presented. Carol English & Renee Johnson, Tipp Monroe Community Services The ladies announced many of the services that Tipp Monroe Community Services does for Tipp City. A handout with a list of services was also provided. The ladies asked for community support on a replacement levy that will be on the ballot in November for Community Services. This levy will cost $0.05 a day for a home valued at $100,000. Please vote Yes. President s Comments OSBA Media Honor Roll - Nancy Bowman, Cecilia Fox, and Carla Ungerecht Mrs. Frame presented Nancy Bowman and Celia Fox with OSBA Media Honor Roll Certificates. Carla Ungerecht was not present to receive her certificate. Mrs. Frame stated that this is a small token of appreciation. We recognize that we can t reach everyone with the media. You do a great job at it. Thank you very much. Ratification of Minutes A motion was presented by Mr. Maus and seconded by Mrs. Dunaway to recommend approval of the Regular Meeting minutes from September 26, 2016, as amended. (name correction) Treasurer s Report President Frame declared the minutes approved A motion was presented by Mr. Spano and seconded by Mr. Maus for approval of the monthly financial report A motion was presented by Mr. Venters and seconded by Mrs. Frame for approval of the FY 17 Appropriation Amendments, as amended. 8 New Business (Continued) A motion was presented by Mr. Spano and seconded by Mr. Maus for approval to amend the board agenda to include an item to recommend approval to supplement the current TCEA Master Agreement to include a Memorandum of Understanding A motion was presented by Mr. Spano and seconded by Mr. Maus for approval to supplement the current TCEA Master Agreement to include a Memorandum of Understanding to be effective November 1, 2016 Miscellaneous Adjournment A. The next Work Session Meeting will be Sunday, November 13 th, in Columbus during the OSBA Capital Conference. B. The next regular Board of Education Meeting will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room. C. The next Tri-agency meeting will be Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the City building A motion was presented by Mr. Maus and seconded by Mr. Spano for approval to adjourn the meeting.
