2 Welcome and Overview Dear Parents and Dancers, With summer fast approaching, we hope you are becoming as excited as we are with anticipation of our summer intensives. In preparation for the program we have prepared this orientation and arrival packet for your review. It is chock full of information regarding arrival, on site orientation, parking directions, staff contact information, performance details and so forth. DATES & TIMES July 7th - August 3rd, 2013 Hours: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Days: Monday - Friday Performance Date: Friday August 6 pm TRAINEE PROGRAM DANCERS! 4 Orientation and Arrival Orientation and arrival times depend on whether or not you will be staying in our housing facilities. Please see the end of this packet for the campus map and VERY important directions regarding parking for pickup and drop off of students on campus for commuter students. Dormitory Arrivals and General Information If you are staying at a Joffrey Housing on campus Life and Learning Residence Hall, you will receive an orientation for the housing facilities Student Lounge, on Sunday evening at 7PM after you check in. Check-In is every Sunday from 12 4 PM and check-out will be on Saturdays no later than from 12 PM. All students will attend Orientation at the Lou Rawls Theater. Program Orientation is on Mondays at 8:30 AM. More detailed driving directions and parking lot placement can be found at the end of the packet along with a campus map. Airport Transfer to Housing We do not provide transportation from the airport. Schedules and Class Assignment Please remember that the Program Orientation is each Monday at 8:30 AM. Your class assignment and schedules will be handed out at orientation. If you are commuting you can expect that your first class will start at 9:30 in the morning. Schedules will be posted for the upcoming week at the dormitory each Friday. Those not staying in housing should pick up the schedule each Friday. 6 Studio Location The Joffrey Miami program is hosted by Florida Memorial University. Included in this packet is a campus map with all the buildings that house our studios and our dormitory. Our studios are located in Lou Rawls Theater and J.C. Sam s Student Union Building Staff Contact Information Please note that all employees with an asterisk * by their name will not have an active account until June 1, Dress Code FEMALE Ballet: Joffrey Black leotard, any pink tights and pink ballet slippers Other classes: Joffrey dance shorts or pants with a Joffrey fitted T-Shirt. 7 Policies and Rules Tardiness to class will result in the student being asked to sit or leave the class at the instructor s discretion No street shoes are allowed in the studios. No food or drink is allowed in the studios. No gum chewing is allowed during class. No food or gum in any of the studios. Cell Phones must be turned off during class and stowed safely in your dance bag. Dance bags with valuables should be brought into the classroom and stored out of the way. The school is not responsible for belongings left in the locker rooms and other common areas. No warm-up clothes may be worn once class has begun. No jewelry is to be worn during class. All students must adhere to the Dress Code and wear their name tags. Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late to class will not be allowed to participate. If you are going to be late or absent from class, please call the office so we can notify the teacher. We do not recommend that students under the age of 13 leave the building without a chaperone. Parents should meet their children in the school lobby. Tuition must be current or students will not be permitted to attend class.

8 DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY From the North, take I95 South to SR 826West (Palmetto Expressway). Exit at NW 37th Avenue. Stay on access road to NW 42nd Avenue (Le Jeune Road). Turn left; proceed one half mile to campus entrance on right. Turnpike from the North, exit at Golden Glades, onto SR 826 West and proceed as above. I95 from the North, take SR 826 West and proceed as above. From the South, take SR 826 (Palmetto Expressway) north to NW 47th Avenue exit. Stay on access to NW 42nd Avenue, turn right, and then proceed one half mile to campus entrance on right. Florida Memorial University is located north of the Opa Locka Airport and south of the Palmetto Expressway. When you arrive at Florida Memorial University please stop at the guard booth for directions to the residencies and the Lou Rawl s Theater.

9 Year Round Trainee Program If you are interested in applying for the Year Round Trainee Program you may do so at any time while attending the summer intensive. Please see Trey Ervine at the main Joffrey Office on the 5th floor or him at Mr. Ervine can answer any of your questions regarding this exciting professional training program as well as arrange for you to be observed for admission while taking class, question and answer sessions with the Artistic Director, tours of the facilities and the year round dormitory (Grove Street), and facilitate your application for financial aid.
