Molescroft Matters We aim to sustai ad cotiue to develop a commuity based o positive attitudes, a promotio of excellece ad a celebratio of achievemet. A valued eviromet i Goverors Expeses Report to the Chair of Goverors A great loss For the last 20 years, parets have read a article i this report from Toy Kight, our Chair of Goverors. This year it is my duty to write a tribute to him. Toy died i Jauary 2017 ad his loss is felt across the school. We had plaed to mark his retiremet as a goveror of 20 years at the ed of this school year. We are devastated that we have ot bee able to share our thaks with him. We wated to mark Toy s dedicatio to this school, our work ad our purpose. Toy was a true professioal i the educatioal world havig bee the Pricipal of Beverley College, but who ever left educatio ad became the tiller of the ship at Molescroft Primary School. Toy was a Chair of Goverors who kew istictively whe to advise, whe to cousel, whe to guide ad whe to ifluece. He kew a good oe whe he saw oe ad he was ivolved i the appoitmet of early every teacher workig i the school today. Toy was a rock to me ad ideed I am sure to my predecessors. Toy was cautious i the directio of the school ad havig see the educatioal pedulum swig, as it regularly does, past him umerous times, he kew the pit falls of various iitiatives. Toy however also kew that to be successful, the school must always seek ew opportuities ad create its ow solutios. Toy therefore fully supported the developmet of our role as a Teachig School. There have bee huge beefits to Molescroft Primary School because of this, ot least the umber of fatastic ew teachers we which everybody cares, everybody lears, ad everybody matters. Although it is ow possible for goverors to claim expeses, oce agai o claim has bee charged to the school. have bee able to trai ourselves ad the employ. Toy was passioate about the arts ad how as a school we eed to ope up the possibilities of the world to our pupils. Of course it is essetial to strive for the highest stadards i Eglish ad, but he esured that we ever forgot that we are preparig childre for a life to be lived to the full; a rich experiece with opportuity ad erichmet. Toy was also a great humaitaria. He uderstood the huge resposibility all of us have whe we work with the ext geeratio. Here we grow ad develop the mids, attitudes, toleraces ad positivity of the future citizes of the coutry ad the world. Toy atteded all our DIEDRE Committees (Diversity, Iteratioal, Eco, Disability ad Race Equality). He appreciated that our childre are eterig a global ecoomy ad that they will ot be able to tur their backs o it if they wish to prosper. He kew that if we do ot foster the essetial values of humaity ow, the there is o future. Above all, Toy cared passioately for his adopted school. The Commuity, staff ad pupils. He gave geerously of his time. Every child who has walked through these doors over the past 20 years ad those still to come may ot have all kow him, but they have greater opportuities because of him. With love to Margaret ad his family Michael Locaster (Head Teacher) 3

Reports o the Curriculum from the Lik Goverors MOLESCROFT PRIMARY SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT Eglish ad Literacy Eglish Coordiator: Victoria Tippett Lik Goveror: Kathry Ratcliffe Oce agai, Molescroft Primary School has had a successful year. I Eglish, the compariso for expected or better was very ecouragig as it was the first year that the New Expectatios i the Natioal curriculum were beig tested at Year 2 ad 6. I both readig ad writig the childre at Molescroft exceeded the atioal at the ed of both key stages. The same applied to the % of pupils exceedig atioal expectatios whe compared to the % of pupils attaiig this atioally. I the year oe phoics screeig the school received a letter from the Secretary of State for Educatio cogratulatig the school o the phoics results, placig the school i the top 8% of schools i Eglad. Areas for developmet over the ext year are to cotiue to look at spellig strategies ad patters to couteract the difficulty of the ew curriculum, provide editig ad draftig time to improve writig ad to cotiue to look at strategies to help ispire developig writers. Coordiator: Richard Atkiso Lik Goveror: Adria Adamso provisio ad uderstadig has bee doig well sice the itroductio of the ew curriculum, but to take this further there has bee a decisio to implemet a Mastery curriculum. The idea behid this is to layer o the cocepts, makig sure that every child has the time to master them. The steps betwee the cocepts are smaller, ad the slower pace esures a better uderstadig, but it removes the eed to revisit the cocepts. All levels will work together ad it allows childre to build upo their learig. It really teaches them to thik mathematically, rather tha just learig to recite formulae. There's bee quite a ivestmet, i traiig ad resources ad iitial feedback has bee positive. cotiues to be very successful, with most year groups performig above atioal usig atioal stadardised tests. This was ot the case with Y6 i 2016, hece the decisio to move oto the ew Mastery Curriculum immediately rather tha to delay to September There is a differece betwee the performace of pupil premium ad the o-pupil premium childre, which will be moitored over the year. Movig forward, there will be support for implemetatio of the Mastery curriculum ad support for teachers. Sciece Techology Egieerig with S.T.E.M. Coordiators: Betha Nicholls, Caroly Baker, Bryoy Crofts, Alice Hairsie Lik Goveror: Alex Lazeby The Curriculum Plas that were itroduced i the previous school year cotiue to be developed ad embedded withi the school. The subjects withi STEM stimulate the childre, which ca be see through the high percetage of both key stages achievig secure at the ed of the year. The sciece week startig with Professor Braistorm was a success agai with the childre ejoyig the practical side ad also helpig the childre icrease their scietific vocabulary. The additio of the Kitche has supported teachers i developig childre s uderstadig of cookig ad utritio. The childre really ejoy Desig ad Techology with much of their work displayed aroud the school, such as textiles i key stage 1 to mechaisms i key stage 2. The teachers have idetified areas that they wish to work o i the comig year to esure every child reaches their full potetial. Computig Coordiator: Matthew Britto Lik Goveror: Matthew Britto The ew computig curriculum is ow fully embedded at Molescroft. The icrease is Codig objectives is beig met largely by codig apps o ipads, which offer a variety of challege, from very basic codig algorithms, to more complex structures of code. The school has ivested i a group set of BeeBot programmable robots ad maps which eable the youger childre to experimet with givig sequeces of istructios (algorithms) to a computer. At the other ed of the codig curriculum, the school is plaig to itroduce text codig by usig the app Swift Playgrouds o ipad. This will give the childre some experiece of typig actual code ito a device to create a give output. The app is very visual ad is based o a game type 8

eviromet. The imac computers are cotiuig to be used for computig skills across the curriculum, icludig word processig, spreadsheets, movie makig ad paitig. ipad use goes from stregth to stregth, with childre becomig more ad more proficiet i usig the device as a tool to support their learig across the curriculum. Some of the uses of ipad: Research Recordig ideas o scree ad by voice Movie makig to show uderstadig Creatig ebooks Presetig writte work as comic strips Makig quiz presetatios Iteractive respose to teachers questios ad quizzes Multi-track music recordig Digital paitig Techical desig Buildig desigs i Miecraft Recordig explaatios i for other childre Gree scree aimatio Draftig, editig ad re-editig writig Codig Sharig work with parets with olie portfolio Reiforcig key maths skills with iteractive apps Photography ad image editig Explorig 3D maps of tows ad cities studied Future priorities for Computig could iclude: Further developmet of codig, especially use of Swift Playgrouds reewal of computer suite imacs or further ivestmet i ipad E-safety cotiues to be a focus for our safety weeks ad throughout the year. Whe iteret use is taught, age appropriate e-safety issues are cosidered ad discussed. The school takes the approach that childre eed to be give the skills to stay safe whe usig the iteret, both at school ad socially. There is also a focus o resposible ad thoughtful use of social media to ecourage childre to thik about others feeligs whe usig these services. History Coordiator: Be Rowsell Lik Goveror: Toy Kight History i 2016 saw the first of what we hope will become a aual evet; Our World History Day. This year saw all the childre arrivig i school i costume relatig to the period of history beig studied. History came together i the hall at 9am as the childre were take by time machie avigated by Mr. Rowsell through the ages. The childre had to spot their period i history by soudscape. The childre the retured to their time zoes ad exploited the period through drama, music, art, writte work, readig ad ofte food. Mr. Locaster represeted the great uwashed i all ages highlightig how poverty is pretty miserable i all eras. He was subjected to cosiderable abuse ad cotempt as the childre realised that they were represetig the miority of relatively wealthy people who made history whilst the poor geerally had it doe to them. Geography ad the Iteratioal Dimesio Coordiator: Joatho Williams & Libby Johs Lik Goveror: Toy Kight The school cotiues to use the great potetial of the three-week Iteratioal Focus every February to support the Geography Curriculum cross likig it with Eglish Art, Music ad R.E. The itesive period of iteratioal celebratio has become a highlight of the school year. It is hugely appreciated that parets joi i with such ethusiasm ad cotiue to fiacially support the programme. Without this, the vast rage of activities could ot be provided for all childre. This year s programme o Japa icludes workshops with experts o Judo, Drummig, Dace, Origami, Calligraphy, Ceremoy ad culture as well as the traditioal large art projects. The use of visits to ehace the Geography Curriculum remais a stregth i the school. The Residetial Visit i Year 6 remais a major opportuity for the childre to complete field studies icludig the study of a river, the use of OS maps ad the completio of mappig exercises. The kowledge of the childre i this subject is impressive. The curriculum is used i such a way to 9

tur the childre ito geographers. Istead of just learig about what the capital of a coutry is ad other poits, they are asked to thik about questios that they would ask to lear about the area. Geography is also ehaced by the Eterprise Day ad the school s Fair Trade ageda. Childre cotiue to develop a uderstadig of the ecoomy. Oe of the mai stregths of the subject is how it is developed cross curricular givig it a real cotext. The work of the Diversity, Iteratioal, Eco, Disability, Race Equality group drives the developmet of the Iteratioal Eveigs ad festivals ad also esures the opportuities for Citizeship are ever missed. Persoal, Social, ad Citizeship Educatio Coordiator: Sarah Graiger Lik Goveror: Richard West Although this is the oly area that is o statutory ad therefore ot assessed or icluded i the FLiC reports it still remais oe of the most importat areas of the curriculum. The School ethos that everybody cares, everybody lears, ad everybody matters provides the directio the school takes i developig its pupils. The school follow the Social ad Emotioal Aspects of Learig (SEAL) programme which allow them to cocetrate o both Persoal ad Iterpersoal skills such as self awareess, maagig feeligs, motivatio, empathy ad social skills. This programme provides the teachers with a cosistet framework that ca be used throughout KS1 ad KS2. PSCE is the resposibility of the whole school commuity as they look to promote ad foster the social, emotioal ad behavioural skills of all childre. I lie with the Departmet for Educatios expectatios the school cotiues to promote fudametal British values of democracy, mutual respect ad tolerace of those with differet faiths ad beliefs. By holdig themed assemblies, providig quality educatioal visits ad welcomig the umerous professioal visitors, the school are clearly exceedig the DfE s expectatios. The pupil coucil cotiues to be effective allowig pupils to share their views i a democratic way whilst beig able to ifluece school matters. The pupil coucil follow a theme/topic for each meetig which has provided directio ad some fatastic iovative ideas. Evets such as the Ati bullyig week, safety week, eterprise day, citizeship fortight are ow embedded ito the academic year shapig the culture of the school. The childre cotiue to astoud whe comig up with ideas for raisig moey ad the passio ad work that goes ito it is remarkable. Overall I ca oly complimet the staff i their dedicatio to makig the pupils what they are today which from what I regularly see is well maered, respectful ad polite childre. Eco School Coordiator: Suzie Hulse Gree Goveror: Toy Kight The Gree Team cotiue to orgaise ad lead the school i all areas of sustaiability. The team meet regularly led by the pupils i Year 6. The areas they tackle are as follows: 1. Fair Trade icludig the promotio of Fair Trade Fortight 2. RSPB Garde Bird watch 3. Savig Eergy competitio 4. Waste Paper Survey 5. Photographic Competitios 6. Really Wild Club is the title for the Wild afteroos, which our pupils ejoy i the grouds ad coservatio area. The childre help to pla the activities for the sprig with the adult leaders. I additio the club maitais the tubs ad troughs, plats the vegetable garde ad liaises with the whole school re our aual etry to the Yorkshire i Bloom competitio. Oce agai the school wo the youg people s sectio of the award with our Sesatioal Sesatios Tubs i I 2017 it is to be Tubs of culture. 7. Preparatio for the Eco School reewal. Everyoe is preparig for the reewal of the Eco School Gree Flag Status i

Defeder of the Arts Coordiator: Hele Ripley Visual Arts Coordiator: Sophie Power Performig Arts Coordiator: Pey Walker Lik Goveror: Nicola Bailey Molescroft School proudly showcases the artistic talets of its pupils, with a vast array of ispirig artwork displayed throughout the classrooms ad corridors. Achievemet i desig techology ad art subjects across all year groups is positive, with a excellet level of security. Visitig artists ad sculptors further ehace the childre s learig, plus teacher Mrs. Ripley leads the gifted ad taleted art club for those pupils idetified as excellig i this disciplie. Music is cosistetly ad strogly secure throughout the year groups. Every child from year 3 owards lears to play the recorder ad, therefore, also lears to read music. Lessos for other istrumets are offered through the Schools Music Service. Those childre optig to lear to play a istrumet subsequetly become part of the school orchestra, which plays i assembly each Friday afteroo. Further performaces take place o the summer Exhibitio of Work Eveig ad at a special Christmas orchestra show for parets. Durig 2015/16 membership of the orchestra peaked at 88, a cosiderable achievemet for a primary school. Opportuities for pupils to participate i performig arts activities are umerous. Several of the staff members have strog musical iterests ad abilities; their ethusiasm kows o bouds whe it comes to ecouragig ad supportig childre i the areas of music, dace ad drama. The school choir cotiues to impress, as does the staff choir, with regular performaces throughout the year. Furthermore, i July 2016 Year 2 delivered beautifully their Little Big Sogs at the Exhibitio of Work eveig. There is a strog arts elemet to the aual iteratioal fortight, which icludes every pupil i the school. At Christmas the childre put o plays to parets ad carers. Excellet teamwork sees performaces delivered by: Foudatio ad Year 1; Years 2 ad 3; ad Years 4, 5 ad 6 (the latter group at Beverley Mister). Urba dace ad routies luchtime clubs provide a opportuity for boys ad girls respectively to be taught by a highly experieced dacer ad choreographer. Performaces have take place at Hull City Hall (as part of the Logcroft Showcase) ad withi the Logcroft School theatre. The aual theatre club productio is highly aticipated by pupils, staff, families ad goverors alike. Pupils i years 4, 5 ad 6 ca opt to take part ad i doig so make a impressive commitmet to rehearsals from March through to July. Words caot adequately describe the joy, cofidece ad pride that is evidet o the faces of the childre as they come together to deliver their performaces after moths of preparatio. Summer 2015 saw a outstadig iterpretatio of Lloyd Webber s CATS, which the set a icredibly hard challege for Staff ad pupils delivered though, with a magificet showig of Sodheim s Ito the Woods Durig academic year 2016/17 the School will work towards reewig its Artsmark Gold accreditatio. The ew categories of Platium ad Flagship have bee added, which gives Molescroft somethig further to aim for. Efforts will focus o buildig upo past achievemets ad lookig forward to how the talet ad dedicatio of the school s staff ad pupils ca be developed eve further. P.E. Coordiator: Marti Wood / Kate Fullam Lik Goveror: Kare Towse Molescroft have had aother excellet year ad has retaied the GOLD sports mark award! The dow side is that Saisbury s, who supported this award have dropped it this year - as of yet there is o ews o who will take over this Sports Mark however the school will cotiue to atted as may competitios as possible. The programme for sport cotiues to diversify. The PE Curriculum has ow bee revised ad all the plaig sheets are complete ad available to all teachers ow with Miss Fullam returig to support the PE role. Tai Chi cotiues to be headed up by Mr. Wood; whilst Mrs. Charlto has revamped the Chiese Aerobics to use more moder music, which has bee a big success. The stadard Mole-ympics set up cotiues to work well; with the additioal layers of teis, gymastics ad table teis goig o at the same time.
