1 Week 13A Weekly Vyne Bulletin HEADTEACHER S NEWSLETTER Friday 8 December 2017 Thank you to all of the dedicated parents, staff and representatives from local businesses who helped to make our Careers Speed Networking Event such a success last Friday 1 December. The Event gives students in Years 12 and 13 the opportunity to engage with a range of adults who are currently working in a variety of industries. This year we had representation from organisations such as the prison service, recruitment, medical services, architects, commerce and education to name a few. Thank you to Miss Leather and Mrs Purtill for their excellent organisational skills. It was an excellent event that can only support the post-18 choices that our students make. On Tuesday night this week I was delighted to welcome students, parents and friends from the local Hillingdon secondary schools to the Hillingdon Regional Finals of the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge. As I mentioned in last week s newsletter, Vyners was represented by Rebecca Davey-Lee who spoke confidently and with great clarity about how she was inspired by her English teacher to step out of her comfy slippers and subsequently published a book online, which has now been downloaded by over 57,000 people worldwide. Unfortunately, Rebecca was not placed in the top three by the judges, but with so many outstanding performances on the evening the final outcomes were, in part, irrelevant as all participants represented their respective schools with such distinction. On the very same evening some of our musical students supported by members of the staff choir were at Uxbridge Station singing carols and raising money for the Click Rujika charity. The team sang with enthusiasm and received warm praise from the local community and have now raised in excess of 1,100 for the charity. Thank you to Miss Duckhouse for leading this venture. Next week the level of Christmas related activity will increase further. On Wednesday 13 December we have our Christmas lunch with entertainment provided by the Vyners Swing Band. Tickets for the meal will be priced at 2.10 and are available from the tills in the canteen. Please note that there will be no other food served on the day. Later in the day we will be hosting our Annual Senior Citizens Christmas party in the main school hall. This is usually a highlight of the year as we invite senior members of the community into the school to celebrate Christmas with us. Thank you to all of the staff and students who work so hard to organise this worthwhile event as well as volunteer to serve the food and beverages, provide the entertainment and bring a smile to faces of our valued guests. On Thursday 14 December at 6.30pm we will be hosting our Christmas Concert. Having seen the programme I am delighted to be able to report that there is once again a wide variety of musical acts and ensembles; it is also incredibly impressive that there will be over 100 students participating on the evening. Tickets are available for the event via the school reception. It would be great to see as many parents and friends of the school in attendance as possible enjoying what will undoubtedly be a high class event. On Friday 15 December, the Friends of Vyners (FOV) will once again be supporting the school with the Christmas Fayre. I would like to make a final plea to all families to try to ensure that they sell or buy some raffle tickets as these two activities make up the biggest fund raising opportunities for the FOV, which allow them to support the school in such an effective manner. It is a busy week. I am very much looking forward to it. Mr G Mullings Head of School HEADTEACHER S COMMENDATIONS Geography 7H Himmat Jhita Maths 7H Abhayjeet Singh Dhanoa Work Related Learning Day 8F Amar Singh Ruprah, Sharna Sandhu, Jamie Sims, William Slatford, Charlotte Sumner. Dates for the Diary Wednesday 13th December Senior Citizen Xmas Party 4pm Thursday 14th December Xmas Carol Concert 6.30pm Friday 15th December FOV Xmas Fayre pm Thursday 21st December TERM ENDS 12.15pm Congratulations - Max Goolamali 7C After attending county hockey trials throughout the summer and early autumn, Max Goolamali in 7C received the fantastic news that he had been selected for the U13 Boys Middlesex Hockey Academy. The trials were rigorous and Max was one of the youngest competitors in the age group as he was also competing against Year 8 boys as well. Friends of Vyners (FOV) Christmas Fair Support WANTED! - Christmas Raffle Ticket Sales and Tombola Donations The Christmas raffle and Christmas Fair are our biggest fundraising activities of the year. To make them the success that they are, we really need your support as parents. The sales of the raffle tickets in particular are absolutely imperative in providing Friends of Vyners with the funds we need to continue enhancing the school experience for all students. All I ask you do is kindly take the time to either buy or sell (or both!) as many of the raffle tickets as you can over the next few weeks. The counterfoils and money then need to be returned either to your child s form tutor or Mrs Derby at Reception.
