4 ACADEMIC ROUTINE The School Day Every morning there is registration followed by Assembly, Form Time or House meetings. There are either 5 or 6 lessons on the morning timetable and these are usually the academic subjects. The children have a lunch break where they will eat lunch, head outside to play or take part in squads, choir and other activities. Following afternoon registration, the lessons predominantly focus on Games, Music, Drama and other activities. At the end of the school day we move into the sports squads or optional after-school activities and clubs. The school day ends at 5.00 p.m. Homework From Year 1, homework starts to become an integral part of the day for the children. Initially they will have 20 minutes of homework. This is supplemented by nightly reading. This workload will increase as they approach Common Entrance with an average of 1 ½ hours being set for our oldest children. They will also be expected to continue to develop their personal reading. Monitoring Progress Parents receive termly written reports alongside regular parent teacher meetings and information evenings. These are timed to provide parents with effective guidance at key moments in their child s education. Excellent academic work is rewarded with Good Shows. Parents are encouraged to be in regular contact with both staff and the Head regarding their child s progress and the choice of next schools. Uniform The school uniform is supplied through Perry uniform. Peter Jones in Sloane Square also supplies our Boys Pre-Prep uniform. There are regular fittings days in school together with a number of second hand uniform sales every year

8 ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES Overview The majority of our pupils join in Reception. Entry to other year groups will depend on places becoming available during the academic year. Your child will need to be registered for a place and will be invited to visit the school for an admissions assessment before a place can be confirmed. Eaton House Schools does operate a sibling policy but no guarantee is made to offer every sibling a definite place. Reception Entry Pre-Registration Information Before registering your child with us you can visit the school by attending either: An Open House on any Wednesday morning during term time An Open Day held on two Saturday mornings a year Bookings for Open Houses or Open Days can be made on our website at These events will start with a talk from our head teachers and are followed by a tour of the building. Please note we do require parents to book a ticket for all attendees for these events. 10 FEES & SCHOLARSHIPS The school fees cover all tuition, exercise books, textbooks, general pencil case items, lunches and the school s day trips. Geometry sets and any other personal stationery items are not included and you will be notified in advance of your requirement to provide these. Please note direct debit is our preferred method of payment and we do not accept cash or cheques. We would like to inform you that should you wish to withdraw your child from the School (other than at the normal leaving date), you are required to provide a Term's written notice to that effect. We award a number of Scholarships each year to recognise particularly gifted children; some of these will have a part remission of fees. Both boys and girls entering at 8+ and 11+ may apply to enter for these awards and parents should contact the admissions department for further information. 12 PREP SCHOOLS RESIDENTIAL TRIPS The boys have the opportunity to explore many different areas of both the UK and France. At Eaton House Schools we believe that the educational value of such residential extra-curricular activities is enormous. YEAR 4 The Year 4 boys travel to a PGL Centre in the UK for 3 days of team building exercises, including Abseiling, Archery, Bouldering Wall, Challenge Course, Climbing, Fencing, Initiative Exercises, Orienteering, Problem Solving and Trapeze. YEAR 5 The Year 5 boys travel to a different PGL centre in the UK for 5 days and here the focus is on team building, including activities such as fossil hunting, mini beast hunts and pond dipping. YEAR 6 The Year 6 boys travel to France for a six-day programme of French activities, history and outdoor pursuits. The boys stay at the Château de la Baudonnière in Normandy. They will visit Arromanches-les-Bains to see one of the beaches used in the D-Day Landing, the Bayeux tapestry, Mont Saint Michel, a market in Dinan and, of course, a whole range of outdoor activities from archery to canoeing. YEAR 7 In Year 7 the boys take part in a multi-faceted five-day trip to Wales which is designed to cover the Common Entrance Geography field work. In addition they will enjoy Art, History and orienteering. YEAR 8 At the end of Year 8, the boys all spend five days with The Outward Bound Trust in the Lake District. The trip gives the boys their last chance to travel together as a whole year group and is designed to give them skills to build on in preparation for the move to their Senior Schools. Whilst away, the boys earn The John Muir Award for environmental work. The highlight of this five-day trip is always the overnight wilderness expedition

13 DATA PROTECTION 1. The School holds information about you and your child including exam results, parent and guardian contact details and financial information and details of medical conditions. This information is kept electronically on the School's information management system or manually indexed in filing systems. 2. These notes refer to the processing of information. Processing is a catch-all term and means obtaining or recording information or carrying out any operation on the information such as storing or using the information. 3. The School processes information about you and your child in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of your child, promote the objects and interests of the School, facilitate the efficient operation of the School and ensure that all relevant legal obligations of the School are complied with. Examples may include: the School keeping details of medical conditions from which your child may suffer so that staff will be able to respond appropriately in the event of a medical emergency. 4. The School may process different types of information about your child for the purposes set out above. That information may include: Medical records and information, including details of any illnesses, allergies or other medical conditions suffered by your child. Personal details such as home address, date of birth and next of kin. Information concerning your child s performance at School, including discipline record, School reports and examinations reports. Financial information including information about the payment of fees at the School. 5. Where, in the professional opinion of the Head, it is deemed necessary we may share information with certain third parties
