Article 51 of the Constitution of India states that 'The State shall endeavor to: (a) promote international peace and security (b) maintain just and honourable relations between nations (c) foster respect for international law and (d) encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration.' The Front Part of the tableau shows that We, the People of the Republic of India, gave unto ourselves this unique Constitution of the largest democracy of the world on January 26, The Republic Day is the most important national festival for us 125 crore people of India. It is the sacred duty of all Indians to owe allegiance to the Constitution and to ponder upon deeply, the recurrent problems affecting humanity. This tableau suggests peaceful solutions to the world's problems by acting on Article 51 of the Constitution of India. It calls for a New World Order by establishing World Parliament to enact World Law, World Government and World Court of Justice for bringing World Unity & World Peace. The Tableau shows a child holding a globe in his hands and proclaiming 'One day I will unite the world', and make it like a heaven worth living. CMS Kanpur Road hosts the Mahakumbh of Cricket, the magnificent ISCPL The Middle Part of the CMS Tableau shows different Holy Places of Worship- Temple, Mosque, Church, Gurudwara, Bodh Vihar, Bahai temple etc. with message that the Source of all the Religions is One God. All the Revealed Religious Books have come from One God. The 6-day International School Cricket Premier League (ISCPL-2016), organized by CMS Kanpur Road Campus was inaugurated on 9 December amidst scintillating cultural items by the Chief Guest Mr Rajiv Shukla, MP and Chairman of Indian Premier League (IPL). The benign presence of renowned cricket players, Mr Piyush Chawla and Mr Surender Khanna, Director, Sports Apex School team from Nepal Authority of India, Mr Rajendra Singh added grace to the event. 16 teams from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Oman, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and India participated in ISCPL held from 8 to 13 December see details on page 4 Mathematical geniuses unite at IYMC 2016, multiply the concept of World Unity The four-day International Young Mathematicians' Convention (IYMC-2016) organized by CMS Gomti Nagar (I) had students from Russia, Bhutan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Brazil, Iran, Nepal, Philippines, Taiwan, UAE, Vietnam, USA, South Africa, Nigeria, Indonesia and India participating in Individual and Team Contests. Renowned experts Dr Simon L Chua, President, Mathematics Trainers Prof. Wen Hsien Sun from Taiwan inspecting Guild, Philippines; Prof. Wen Hsien Sun, President, a maths model Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, Taiwan and Mr Mark Saul, Director, MTCIMS, New York University, USA, conducted the competitions. see details on page 5 December witnessed a number of important CMS events for students edification. The first of these was the International Youth Prof. Geeta Kingdon Mathematics President, CMS Convention (IYMC) organised by the CMS Gomti Nagar I campus, in which 36 school teams from 16 far-flung countries (Brazil, the Russian Federation, Jordan, South Africa, Thailand, Nigeria, UAE, the Philippines, Indonesia, Iran, Vietnam, Bhutan, Taiwan,Sri Lanka, Nepal,and Bangladesh) and 25 school teams from 11 Indian states participated in early December. This gave CMS studentsof all campuses an incredible global platform to pit their mathematical prowess against students from all over the world in an academically rigorous competition. We are proud to arrange such an unparalleled opportunity for our students rare in any school, whether in India or abroad. Another CMS event of great significance in December was the International Schools Cricket Premier League (ISCPL) organised by the CMS Kanpur Road campus. 16 school cricket teams from strong cricketing nations such as Zimbabwe, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Oman,Afghanistan, and India participated. It attracted a galaxy of cricket-world luminaries such as Rajeev Shukla (Chairman of IPL, and Member of Parliament) as Chief Guest and current/former national cricket players such as Piyush Chawla, Chetan Sharma and Surender Khanna. The CMS cricket team had a good innings (having entered the quarter finals), even though they did not win the championship! December also saw a host of events such as sports days, open days, CISV mini-camps and winter picnics etc., apart from serious studies by the students of classes X and XII, who took their first Pre-Board exams midmonth. 3 NEWS & EXAMINATION SCHEME JANUARY 2017 (3) Seven CMS students get admission offers in top ranking universities in USA, UK, Australia & Germany Divyanka and Akshita win first prize in duet dancing weekend by New York University, Abu Dhabi Campus (NYUAD); if he accepts, he is to be offered 100% scholarship from the NYUAD. Other students include Omjaa Rai of CMS Gomti Nagar-I campus who has been offered admission into the Australian National University (ANU), Ananya Malhotra of CMS Gomti Nagar-I has received admission offer from University of Edinburgh (U.K.), Prachi Malviya of Gomti Nagar-I Campus, has been offered admission into the University of Glasgow, UK and Shivam Singh of Mahanagar Campus has received an admission offer from Bochum University, Germany. CMS students put up a heart winning cultural display in honour of the guests and the participants. 10th of December, the UN Human Rights Day was a day of great matches on the two cricketing fields, CMS Kanpur Road and the Multi-Activity Centre, LDA Colony, Kanpur Road. At CMS Kanpur Road, St. Andrews Public School, Agra played against Indian School, Oman. Anuj Garg, Captain of the team from St Andrews, Agra, played a brilliant knock of 54 runs off 23 balls, Apex School, Nepal and Vidura College, Sri Lanka in which Apex School, Nepal won by 8 wickets. Exciting Knocks were witnessed by Prince Edward School, Zimbabwe and Aryan International School, Varanasi. At the matches played at Multi-Activity Centre stadium, LDA, Kanpur Road, team of Smt. 5 International Young Mathematicians' Convention (IYMC) JANUARY 2017 (5) International Young Mathematicians' Convention organized by CMS Gomti Nagar (I) A Dive into the World of Numbers The land of the River Gomti overflowed with the music of numbers as students from Russia, Bhutan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Brazil, Iran, Nepal, Philippines, Taiwan, UAE, Vietnam, USA, South Africa, Nigeria, Indonesia and India came together to participate in the International Young Mathematicians' Convention organized by CMS Gomti Nagar from 2 to 5 December While the inauguration was held on 2nd December at CMS Gomti Nagar Campus (II) auditorium by the Chief Guest Dr. Anup Kumar Yadav, IAS, VC, LDA, the next few days were periods of enjoyment and hectic activity. Competitions were organized and conducted by world renowned mathematicians - Dr Simon L Chua, President, Mathematics Trainers Guild, Philippines; Prof. Wen Hsien Sun, President, Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, Taiwan and Mr Mark Saul, Director, MTCIMS, New York University, USA. 3rd of December was a day of contests when the participants showcased their talents in Maths Relay, Maths Quiz, Individual and Team Contest and also learnt mathematical techniques from the learned maths experts. December 4 proved to be both enlightening and entertaining. The Maths Quiz conducted by Mr Hitesh Keswani was tough for those who has hitherto shied away from problem solving techniques and using maths in a practical way. But for those who loved logic and analysis, it was fun and they reveled in answering the tricky questions using all their energy and knowledge of algebra, geometry and arithmetic. Maths, the mother of all sciences showered them with her blessings. A spectacular show of talent was witnessed at the Mathematical Fair in which projects, Vedic Maths, maths puzzles and other mathematical games vied for attention of mathematical geniuses and maths lovers. Where music combined with maths, the results were the melodious Maths Jingles contest. Students of primary and junior classes participated in this competition and I Y M C Mathematica Where Every Number Counts talents outpoured like the cascade of a waterfall. On the last and final day, December 5, of IYMC, primary section students participated in Mental Mathematics (Calculatia) revealing the sharpness of their intellect and their keen interest in this subject. 8 ALUMNI & EVENTS JANUARY 2017 (8) CMS alumni on ladder of success Salil Verma Senior Engineer in BOSCH Ltd., Jaipur Former student of CMS Aliganj (I) Salil Verma s career graph shows that where there is a will, there is a way. Hailing from a middle-class family, Salil s father, a government employee and mother, a housewife took great pains to see that their child got the best possible education and always encouraged him to do his best in whatever he did. Salil joined CMS Aliganj Campus (I) in 2004 and completed his school studies from the same campus passing brilliantly with high scores in ISC in In school, he took an active part in several co-curricular activities, one of his favourite being the Macmillan India Quiz Contest in mathematics in collaboration with University of New South Wales, Australia. After passing his ISC, he opted for Engineering and got enrolled into GLA University for his bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering. There he learnt a lot about the practical aspects of engineering. He also took part in various national level basketball matches and won several. After successfully completing his graduation, he was selected to work with a prestigious organization BOSCH Ltd, where he currently works as Senior Engineer. Salil got a lot of opportunities to interact with students of other countries and other Indian states through various international and national events organized at the CMS Campuses. He opened up to people and his all-round personality developed. Not only did his academic performance improve but he exceled in others areas too. Due to all the guidance and knowledge he obtained from his teachers and the CMS Founder Dr Jagdish Gandhi, he made the right choices in his career. Recalling Dr. Gandhi s speeches, Salil says nostalgically, He told us that nothing is impossible in life. It just needs dedication and determination. Salil s message is Be determined, be firm, be confident. 23rd CISV Camp begins at CMS on 28 December Village Name: NAYA DAUR VILLAGE CMS is hosting the month-long 23rd International Children's Camp named 'Naya Daur Village' from 28 December 2016 to 24 January 2017 in which children from 9 countries will be come together and imbibe the qualities of world brotherhood, world unity and world peace, cooperation, friendship and global understanding. The countries from which children aged years are arriving at Lucknow along with their adult leaders to participate in this camp include Brazil, Canada, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, UK, USA and India. Besides, junior counsellors, aged years are also participating in the camp to act as intermediaries between the children and the adults. Human Rights Day organized by CMS, Aliganj Campus (II) on 10th Dec CMS, Aliganj (II) commemorated HUMAN RIGHTS DAY with great zeal and enthusiasm. A special assembly was organized to share the significance of the day. Students were involved in activities like slogan writing and poster making and were encouraged to respect Human Rights. This was followed by a drive to spread the message of protecting rights of each and every individual. Students shared their views in the community about violation of rights.
