4 Gymnasium: Elementary Attendance Area Schools (AA) GYMNASIUM Attendance Area Elementary Schools Attendance areas are geographic borders drawn around most elementary schools throughout the district. We created attendance areas so there can be a system of helping you get placement in your elementary attendance area school if you wish. You are not required to request your elementary attendance area school, nor can you be guaranteed a placement at your elementary attendance area school. City-Wide Elementary Schools and Programs City-wide means there is no attendance area, and as a result city-wide schools and programs do not provide a tie-breaker for students who live near the school. K-8 schools (schools serving grades K to 8), language immersion schools, newcomer schools, and the SF Public Montessori School are examples of city-wide schools. City-wide programs are available at a limited number of schools; they are listed as an option on the back of the application form and they have a separate enrollment capacity. For example, the Chinese Immersion Pathway at West Portal is a city-wide program. Although West Portal elementary school has an attendance area, there is no attendance area tiebreaker for students who live in the attendance area and request the city-wide Chinese Immersion pathway.

8 Key Enrollment Dates October 14, 2017 Enrollment Fair 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at John O Connell High School, 2355 Folsom St. Applications available January 12, 2018 Last day to submit an application for the school year March 16, 2018 Offers mailed to students who applied by January 12, 2018 March and April 2-6, 2018 Register at school to accept March 16 offer Application deadlines for: Lowell High School: December 15; Ruth Asawa School of the Arts: December 7. Families who missed the January 12 deadline and submit an application by April 6 will have an offer mailed to them on May 18. To accept this offer, families should register at the school May 21-June 1, Families who received offers on March 16 can also participate in this process as long as they submit an application by April 6. Families who missed the April 6 deadline, can get assigned to schools with openings by visiting the Educational Placement Center (EPC) between June 27- August 31. Students who wish to attend schools that don t have any opening can submit a wait pool request, and EPC will check periodically to see if any seats are available in these schools. If seats open, EPC will conduct a wait pool run to fill those openings.
