SCHOOL MOTTO Non Sine Pulvere Palmam SCHOOL HYMN Who would true valour see, Let him come hither: One here will constant be, Come wind, come weather; There s no discouragement Shall make him once relent His first avow d intent To be a pilgrim. Whoso beset him round With dismal stories, Do but themselves confound: His strength the more is. No lion can him fright; He ll with a giant fight, But he will have the right To be a pilgrim. No goblin nor foul fiend Can daunt his spirit; He knows he at the end Shall life inherit. Then, fancies fly away; He ll not fear what men say; He ll labour night and day To be a pilgrim. SCHOOL SONG Non Nobis Domine, Not unto us, O Lord, The praise and glory Be of any deed or word. For in Thy judgement lies To crown or bring to nought All knowledge and device That man has reached or wrought. And we confess our blame, How all too high we hold That noise which men call fame, That dross which men call gold. For these we undergo Our hot and godless days, But in our souls we know Not unto us the praise. O Power by whom we live, Creator, Judge and Friend, Upholdingly forgive, Nor leave us at the end; But grant us yet to see, In all our piteous ways, Non Nobis, Domine, Not unto us the praise. Non Nobis, Non Nobis Non Nobis, Domine. THE FOUNDER S PRAYER We give You most humble and hearty thanks, O most merciful Father, for our pious founder, Arthur Henry Anstey, and for all our benefactors by whose benefit this whole School is brought up to Godliness and good learning; and we humbly ask You to give us grace to use Your blessings to the glory of Your Holy Name, that we may answer the 2

good intent of our religious founder and become profitable members of the Church and of our country, and at last, share in Your heavenly kingdom, through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen. 3

The Bishop Anstey student body soon became used to seeing Keisha on stage playing her violin at many school functions, such as the Miss Anstey Contest or farewell tributes for well-loved members of staff. Her stage appearances were not limited to these events, as she also featured at our annual Awards Ceremony. She was an outstanding student throughout her school life, obtaining academic awards from Form One to Form Five and she received awards for 23

Most Outstanding Student in French, in Music and in English Literature in the Form Four year group (2003). In the CXC/CSEC examinations in 2004 she sat nine subjects, receiving a grade one in all nine. The Modern Languages Open Scholarship in the A Level Cambridge category is a tribute to her discipline and her impressive ability to use time wisely. As her subject teachers in her Upper VI year will attest, she performed a very fine balancing act as her academic work load grew more demanding, competing all the while with the onerous practice schedules for the 2006 Music Festival. Our congratulations therefore go to Keisha on excellent performances all round; in addition to her brilliant academic success in the 2006 A Level examinations, her hard work in preparing for the 2006 Music Festival also paid dividends as she managed to come away with trophies for best string instrument, for sight reading and for the most outstanding string solo. Keisha is currently pursuing undergraduate studies in Music Therapy at the University of Miami. We wish her well and are confident of her future success.. SONEL ROWLEY Sonel came to Bishop Anstey from the Bishop Anstey Junior School in From the beginning her sunny, cheerful disposition made itself apparent. In 2004 she achieved Grade I in seven subjects and one Grade II at the CXC/CSEC level. Sonel also had the distinction of being awarded Second Place in CXC Visual Art in Trinidad and Tobago. She pursued Art, Spanish and General Paper at the Cambridge Advanced Level and Sociology at CAPE. Her diligence and conscientious attitude were rewarded with Grade A in Spanish and Art, a B in General Paper and a Grade One in CAPE Sociology. This exceptional performance earned her an Additional National Scholarship in Art. Sonel combined academics with extra curricular activities, notably track and field for the first three years and football from Forms One to Five. She also participated in the Women in Art Competition, earning a number of awards, including one for the Most Versatile Young Artist. At present Sonel is enrolled at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, where she is pursuing a degree in Psychology. We wish her well and are confident of her future success. 24

SAELESE HAYNES Saelese entered Bishop Anstey High School in 1999 from Arima Girls R.C. School. In 2004 she obtained eight passes with seven distinctions at the CXC/CSEC Examinations. This enabled her to receive an Award for Excellence in Academic at the end of her Fifth form year. She pursued Literature, French and General Paper at the Cambridge Advanced Level and Environmental Studies at CAPE. She received distinctions in all of these, thus earning her an Additional National Scholarship in Languages. These results came as no surprise to those of us who taught her in Sixth Form. It is at this level that her true ability became apparent. Her unassuming, understated manner belied an original, creative mind. The undercover student as she was called by her classmates, could be counted on to produce work of a high calibre and always with a novel way of seeing things. Her interests include pan and reading and she was involved in the Young Leaders programme at school. Her strong sense of community was shown by her involvement in the Literacy Development Programme of the St. Mary s Orphanage. Saelese plans to study Law at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. Although she intended taking a year off from academics, she is engaged in part time study at the College of Professional Studies. We wish her well and are confident that we shall be hearing great things of Saelese in the future. ABIGAIL ALI Abigail came to Bishop Anstey High School in 1999 from the Specialist Learning Centre. In 2004 she gained eight subjects with three distinctions at the CXC/CSEC level. Abigail pursued Literature, Spanish and General Paper at the Cambridge Advanced Level and History at CAPE. Her diligence and conscientious attitude were rewarded with Grade B in Spanish and Literature, an A in General Paper and a Grade Three in CAPE History. This performance earned her an Additional National Scholarship in Languages. Quiet and unassuming, Abigail showed a real love for literature as evidenced from her detailed knowledge of her texts. She approached her work with enthusiasm and commitment. Abigail combined academics with extra curricular activities. She was a member of the School Environmental Club as well as Scrabble and Drama. Her interests include Indian dance and lawn tennis. 25

Abigail is taking a year off from academics but plans to go to St. John s University in the United States to pursue a degree in Law, majoring in Mediation which she sees as where the world is going. We wish her well and are confident of her future success. ALYSSA DE GAZON Alyssa was awarded an Additional National Scholarship (Modern Studies) on the basis of the results of the 2006 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level Examination. She came to Bishop s from Mucurapo Girls R.C. School. She has had an active school life in respect of her participation in regular and extra curricular activities. She has been peer counsellor, vice captain of Chancellor House, and Deputy Form Captain L6. She received the Outstanding Academic Award in Form 5 which was a testimony to a maturing student. Alyssa is calm, contemplative and deliberate. She has made a tremendous surge forward, demonstrating the power that lies within. We believe there is more and we look forward to her continued progress. Her unassuming posture and manner did not constrain her ability. Most importantly, she produced her best when it really mattered. It is our hope that she will keep in touch with that inner power and achieve even more. Congratulations and best wishes. Alyssa is currently preparing for SAT Exams while gathering some valuable work experience. She will pursue studies in Psychology in the United States in the new academic year. SANIKA TYSON Sanika entered Bishop Anstey High School in 1999 from the Sacred Heart Girls R.C. School. She has been a steady academic performer and has combined this with exploits in track and field events. She received the Corinne Mc Knight trophy for track and field excellence in Form 1. She has served through the Environmental club and has been form captain in her U6 year. Sanika is an intense, no nonsense student. Some in the History class called her miss condescending so great was her focus on the matter before her; (she might condescend to respond to her peers if she deemed the issue relevant to the topic at hand). She placed second in Trinidad and Tobago in Unit 1 History CAPE 2005, and this testified to her brilliance and her devotion to attaining excellence. She hibernated for a while in preparing for the final exams and only surfaced to seek out any new information by way of handouts or new references. She has reaped the rewards of her labour. Congratulations and best wishes. 26

Sanika was awarded an Open National Scholarship (Modern Studies) on the basis of the results of the 2006 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). She is at present pursuing law the UWI St Augustine with strong intentions to continue those studies in London. CHOJNICE TAYLOR Chojnice was awarded an Additional National Scholarship (Modern Studies) arising out of her performance at the 2006 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level Examination. She entered Bishop s in 1999 from the Diamond Vale Government Primary School. She has been an Academic award winner in form 1 and form 5. She has served the school through the choir in the lower forms and has been involved in dance in her L6 year. Her involvement in bazaar and house activities complemented an active school life at BAHS. Chojnice is fun loving and carefree, and could hardly contain herself from bubbling over, as she often did. She has given us a glimpse of her potential; we would like to see the whole picture. She has shown her strengths and weaknesses and we know now that she has what it takes to ride those strengths to success. Chojnice must not let up, she must go on to be the star that she is in fulfilment of her God given attributes. Congratulations and best wishes. Chojnice is taking a year off while pursuing SAT exams. In the new academic year she hopes to begin studies in law at UWI Cave Hill, and then further a field. HÉLÈNE HOYTE Hélène was awarded an Open Science Scholarship in the combined Cambridge/CAPE category, having obtained distinctions in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and General Paper. Hélène came to us from Bishop Anstey Junior School. She was an outstanding student throughout her school life, obtaining academic awards from Forms Two to Six. In 2004, she obtained eight passes with seven grade 1s and an A, in her CSEC/CXC Examinations. These achievements are a reflection of Hélène s tremendous intellectual potential. She has a probing analytical mind that had to resolve all intellectual challenges encountered, which she usually did with seeming ease. Yet, she was never complacent about her academic progress, always working diligently and proactively to attain optimum results. Notwithstanding Hélène s dedication to academics, she enthusiastically participated in specific extra-curricular activities, with swimming and gymnastics being highlights in this regard. She quietly and wholeheartedly supported school events and in Sixth Form was often a hardworking, background helper for many activities. Hélène is using the current year to develop her skills in other areas, including a visit to France to develop her French linguistic skills. She is in the process of sending out applications to study medicine. We wish her well and are confident that she will continue to excel. 27

ASHLEY POON KING Ashley was awarded an Additional Scholarship in the combined Cambridge/CAPE category, having obtained distinctions in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. Ashley came to us from Bishop Anstey Junior School. She excelled during her time here, obtaining academic awards from Forms One to Six. In 2004, she obtained eight grade 1 passes in her CSEC/CXC Examinations, placing first in the school in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography and French and third in the country in Biology. Ashley is clearly a consistent high achiever who tackles intellectual challenges as an everyday exercise. She also has a deep, probing mend, always having to arrive at the core or fundamental explanation for every intellectual puzzle. She applied a very proactive approach, ensuring optimum performance. Notwithstanding her dedication to academics, Ashley was an enthusiastic and helpful participant in several extra-curricular activities: swimming, choir, volleyball, debating and environmental club. She was considered a leader within her year group, as she was valedictorian at her Form Five Graduation, nominated for the position of Head Girl and appointed as a Senior Prefect in Upper Six. Ashley is taking a year off studies while she prepares and applies to study medicine. We wish her well and are confident that she will continue to be a high achiever. NAVITA MAHABIR Navita was awarded an Additional Scholarship in the combined CAPE/ Cambridge category, having obtained distinctions in Biology and Chemistry and grade Bs in Physics and General Paper. Navita came to us from Mucurapo Girls RC School. She was an outstanding student throughout her school life, obtaining academic awards from Forms One to Five. She was a quietly diligent student who persistently tackled difficulties until resolved. She worked determinedly, utilizing independent, proactive study to achieve optimum results. Navita participated in the Mathematics Olympiad and in a few extracurricular activities, including Latin dancing and hockey; she quietly supported all school activities. Navita is currently taking a year off studies and has applied to study medicine at Mount Hope next year. We wish her well and are certain that she will continue to succeed at her future studies. 28

NOTE TO TROPHY WINNERS You will be given the Trophy you have earned while you are on the stage but, in keeping with School policy, it will be retrieved by the School as you leave the stage. As you know, we display all our Trophies in a showcase in the office. However, if you wish to have a photograph taken to show you holding the Trophy, please come to the office and you will be permitted to go into the garden with the Trophy for this purpose. You will not be permitted to leave the School with the trophy. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Bishop Anstey High School wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the donors of all the prizes, medals and trophies distributed during the course of this Ceremony. We know that, while these reward those who have done well in many fields of endeavour, they also serve to encourage and inspire others to work towards the achievement of their full potential. Our Trophies are returned by the recipients immediately following this Ceremony and are displayed for all to see in the showcase in the School s office. We would also like to thank all the friends of Bishop Anstey High School and all member of the Hilarian family who have given us assistance in many ways throughout the past year. At Bishop s, we have always had to work hard to provide all the facilities we require for the young people whose care and education is entrusted to us. But God is good to us and we have learned that, when faced with tasks of seemingly impossible proportions, He will show us the way. We are therefore very grateful for all his goodness to us and for the loyalty and assistance for our Hilarian family and our many friends and well wishers. We look forward to your continuing support. Finally, our thanks to Ingrid and the staff of Granderson Brothers for their continuing patience, forebearance and hard work which ensured that this Programme was ready for today s function and to Gillian Bishop and her staff at the Signature Collection for their continuing support and their work to ensure that our trophies were displayed to perfection today. 29
