1 St Bede s Boarding School Newsletter Week 6 Term 1 On the Boarding School front St Bede s Boarding School Student Council Student Council Year 9 Year 10 Year 11 Year 12 Year 13 Samson Foley, Eugene Farrell Harry Smith, Nick O Connor Daniel Aguinot and Shaun Rooney Felix Harnett and Jonty Challies-Gibb Prefects: Jack McLoughlin (Head Boarder), Ben Borcoskie, Douglas Walter, Jake Keenan, Sho Sasaki, Chris Gorman, Tom McKenzie, Tom Rush The first job on the table for the student council is to set up the boarding Houses for the House competitions each term. The group will also be a voice for student and boarding issues. Hoben House, named after Fr Cormac Hoben Bourke House named after Fr Maurice Bourke Donohue House, named after Lawrence and Leo Donohue Gilbert House, named after Fr Thomas Gilbert Flood House, Students Head s of Boarding Conference Jack McLoughlin and Ben Borcoskie will be attending the Zealand Boarding Schools Association Students Head s of Boarding Conference being held at Acland House, Christchurch this coming weekend. The focus is on transition to leadership, team building and leadership. There are 75 other boarding school student leaders attending from around New Zealand.

2 Boarding School Open Day The St Bedes Boarding School Open Day is on Friday 24 th March from 10am- Noon. This will be an opportunity for those interested in boarding school education for their son at St Bedes to find out more. Getting in contact with us The Dorm master on duty is contactable on this number from 2:30pm onwards on weekdays and all through the weekends. Dorm masters on duty this weekend Friday: Viane Makalio & Damian Steele Saturday: Ben Tomlinson Sunday: Ben Ziolo Duty Phone Eddie Fraser from the Chatham Islands passed away suddenly last week. He was the grandfather of Deakyn Fraser in Year 9. Eddie s death will not only be felt by the family which include, Ashton Fraser and Jaiden Fraser of Year 10 and 11, but also by the local community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time. Take a Boarding Friend Home for the Weekend I am seeking to build boarder relationships and grow camaraderie between our boys and families, particularly for our international boarders, who are a long way from home. With this in mind, I am proposing that local boys invite an international boarder home on the weekend of the 25 and 26 March. To meet family and share their home life with them. Regional Visits & Promotions Both Justin Boyle, Rachel Pitcaithly and myself will be in Kaikoura this Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00pm at St Joseph s School. If you would like to catch up, come on down and have a chat. We will be promoting St Bede s Boarding School and if you know of anyone interested in boarding at the only all-boys Catholic boarding school in the South Island, then let them know we will be in town at St Joseph s Primary School.

The following day the boys finish school for the term and will be going home. Please me if you are interested in attending. There has always been an expectation and a commitment that all boarders will attend Mass on Sunday. We do appreciate the support of parents in ensuring their son will be there. Understandably, there may be an odd occasion where events conspire to prevent this happening. However, some boarders need to ensure they meet this commitment.
