1 Father Hagus Father Neenan Father Walsh St. Louis Parish was founded in 1911 by Father Louis F. Hagus. In 1912, the cornerstone of the current church was laid. The completed building was dedicated in Concordia Hall, the parish center, was added in 1918 on the northwest corner of Floyd and Sherman. To the left is the 1919 choir.

2 Father Walsh Father O Heron The 1920s were a time of growth for Englewood and the new St. Louis parish. When Bishop J. Henry Tihen broadly hinted that a school might be in order, the St. Louis community responded. By September of 1929, Concordia Hall, which was originally an old store, had been enlarged, Sister Teresa Agnes and Sister Mary Bernard of the Order of St. Joseph of Carondelet had been secured to teach the first four grades, and 90 pupils were enrolled. A new grade would be added each year over the next four years until the full eight grades were reached.

3 The highlight of the decade was St. Louis Silver Jubilee as the parish marked its 25th anniversary with a Jubilee Mass celebrated by Bishop Urban J. Vehr. The first class of St. Louis School, now with more than 200 students, graduated in St. Louis built a convent at 3301 S. Grant for the growing staff of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. 4 Father O Heron In 1941, land was acquired at 3301 S. Sherman for a new school building. With the war nearing an end, the Victory in 1944 Club started raising funds. The site was blessed and construction began in July 24, 1949, Archbishop Vehr dedicated the $172,000 building, home to 530 students.

5 The 1950s were a time of tremendous growth and activity for St. Louis parish. The church was remodeled and expanded from a capacity of 260 to 500. A new rectory was built. School enrollment topped 823 in 1956, resulting in the First Communion celebration shown below of 120 youth. The teaching staff had grown to 10 sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and seven lay teachers. Property was purchased in the 3300 block of South Lincoln for further expansion. The St. Louis Gregorians were singing at the Brown Palace, the football team ruled the parochial league, and the PTA celebrated 25 years of leadership. Msgr. O Heron Msgr. Cullen Fr. Aylward

6 Msgr. Cullen Fr. Vollmer The St. Louis Church was rededicated on its 50th anniversary in a Solemn High Mass said by Archbishop Vehr. Among the celebrations was a mother-daughter breakfast, honoring the oldest parish members. It was held in the old cafeteria which once filled the north end of the first level of St. Louis School. The new parish center with cafeteria and gymnasium/auditorium was completed in 1963.

7 Msgr. Cullen The 1970s saw many visual changes at St. Louis. The outside of the church was sandblasted and painted. The chancel gained a new altar and tile mosaic reredos. Archbishop Vincent Casey celebrated St. Louis 65th anniversary Jubilee Mass. The celebration included recognition of the parish s early pioneers at a special benefit performance of Oklahoma. The last Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet left, resulting in the first all lay staff at St. Louis School. Concordia Hall was torn down and the convent sold.

Cline Hall to honor William Cline, a St. Louis acolyte from the parish s founding in 1911 to The year also marked the appearance of the fire escape on the side of the church, required by Englewood s fire code when the choir loft was extended. St. Louis School began its tradition of providing Thanksgiving dinner to seniors throughout the area and the school s float won 1st place in the non-commercial division of the St. Patrick s Day parade.

9 Father Mollison St. Louis parish purchases the St. Vincent House on South Lincoln to provide respite lodging for patients and their families at Swedish Hospital. The Neo-Catechumenal Way becomes a part of the parish and the first Neo- Cat team is welcomed. Girls become altar servers. The church windows are damaged by a major hailstorm.
