4 3rd HR Round Table congregates Eminent Aerospace Professionals UPES in association with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) organized 3rd Aerospace HR Roundtable at Dr. V.M. Ghatage Convention Centre, HAL, Bangalore, 6th June, Retd. Wing Commander Shri Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to travel in space, was the chief guest of the event. The annual Round Table was attended by senior members of leading organizations like Boeing International Corp, NAL, TCS, L&T, Mahindra Aero Structures Ltd, Airbus & Airbus Group, India, Bharat Electronics Ltd and Safran. 5 Maiden Round Table for Law on Skilling Legal Talent for Emerging Areas The Maiden Round Table for Law was organized on 7 th May 2016 in Delhi. 7 First International Conference on Intelligent Communication, Control and Devices-2016 The first international conference on Intelligent Communication, Control and Devices-2016 was organized by the department of Electronics, Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Prof. O.P.N Calla, Dr. Pieter Jonker, Dr. Ragunathan, Dr. E.G.Rajan and Prof. D.V.Gadre and many more delivered the resourceful lectures. 136 papers 14 posters were selected and presented J U N E

8 National Conference on Water Resources & Hydro Power Department of Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering organized a national conference on Water Resources & Hydro Power from June 17-18, The Chief Guest was Mr. Bhajan Singh, Managing Director, Pey Jal Nigam limited, Dehradun. The key note was delivered by Padamshree Dr. Avdhash Kaushal. 9 Conference of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers R10 Mini POCO A day conference on Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) R10 Mini Panel Of Conference Organizers (POCO) was organized on 11th June 2016 in collaboration with Next Generation Computing Technology Society (NGCT) and cosponsored by IEEE R10 (Asia Pacific Region) & IEEE UP Section (India). The objective was to create awareness among the different universities and fellow faculty members, the intricacies of organizing an international conference. J U N E

17 Inked MoU with L&T UPES entered into an academia-industry collaboration in the area of Civil Engineering with the industry giants- Larsen & Toubro. The MOU was signed on behalf of L&T s Heavy Civil Engineering business vertical by their Head Mr. S.V. Desai in Chennai. This tie-up is for B. Tech Civil Engineering with specialization in Infrastructure Development program. It covers curriculum Inputs, teaching by Subject Matter Experts(SMEs) from L&T and internship opportunities J U N E

19 Team Astral stood 1st in Europe and Asia and secured 4th position in the world at the Cansat Competition Team Astral, UPES stood 1st in Europe and Asia and secured 4th position in the world at the Cansat Competition held at Burkett, Texas from June 10-12, The team outperformed all the other teams by showing a perfect demonstration of the working system and meet all the required compliance. Team Astral was appreciated by all the other teams and by officials of American Astronautical Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and NASA (JPL and GSFC). J U N E

20 M Des Student Wins 3 rd Prize in Design Contest Ravishankar R, student of M.Des Transportation Design from 1 st year won the 3rd Prize in the Front Fascia Design Contest by KPIT with a Cash Prize of Rs /- on 4th of May at KPIT Pune. KPIT invited students to participate in KPIT electric bus front fascia design contest and create innovative designs for the front fascia of the bus. Out of 160 entries received by KPIT only 15 Teams were invited to Pune. Two of these 15 teams were from UPES School of Design Studies. J U N E

21 Student Chapter Excellence Award to UPES ACM Chapter The UPES ACM Student Chapter won the Student Chapter Excellence Award for Outstanding Recruitment Program worldwide, with prize money of $500. This Chapter has represented UPES internationally and recognized as winners from almost ACM student chapters across the world. J U N E

22 M. Des Student earns paid Internship Bharath Arunachalam, student of M Des Industrial Design bagged a 6 month paid internship with the Autodesk. He will be working with Autodesk Pune team on Autodesk Fusion 360 and Product Design Workflow. J U N E

23 M Tech Nuclear Science Students and a faculty to intern in USA 4 students of M.Tech Nuclear Science and Technology and Dr. Prashant Shambhudayal Rawat, faculty COES have been selected for a summer training/internship to be held in the month of July 2016 at the United States of America. They are participating in the 2016 Nuclear Security Training Series. The U.S. Department of State under its Partnership for Nuclear Security (PNS) program would hold this training series on Nuclear Security for University students and faculty from July 3 July 29, This is the second time successively that this training opportunity is being provided to UPES. 24 Mechatronics student selected for MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Program Pramati Upadhaya, student of B Tech Mechatronics is selected for the MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Program, August Pramati is developing a social enterprise called SOCH under guidance of the UPES Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. 26 Industrial Visit to Gujarat This industrial tour included visit to the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) and Institute for Plasma Research IPR), respectively at Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Students of Nuclear Science engineering visited labs where they got exposure of practical application of Nuclear Science, basically radioactivity, in fields ranging from earth sciences to astrophysics. They also visited ITER (the international thermonuclear program), Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT) J U N E

28 All India Artists at UPES Campus UPES collaborated with Wisdom Society of Creative Arts to organize a three day All India Art Camp (Painting) on the Campus from 2 nd June to 04 th June, The objective was to inspire students and faculty to horn such skills and enjoy creativity. 25 Artists displayed their painting talent and created some wonderful aesthetic and modern art painting to adorn the galleries of the University. The camp was inaugurated by the prominent journalist Kushal Kothiyal. J U N E

29 Inauguration Ceremony of ISSA Student Chapter, Dehradun Center for Information Technology and Information Systems Security Association, USA jointly launched a new student chapter to provide more opportunities for interaction and knowledge exchange in the areas of cyber security on 21st May This is the only chapter under ISSA in India. The Chapter aims to facilitate more areas of exploration, research, innovation, and knowledge sharing in form of year round activities by the students all over the country. 30 French students on Campus under Exchange program An induction program was conducted on 17th May for the incoming French students under exchange program to introduce them about Indian culture. These students will stay for 3 months. Dr. Veena Krishna, Psychologist delivered sessions during the induction program. J U N E

31 International Yoga Day Celebrated International Day of Yoga was organized on 21 st June, 2016 at UPES for generating awareness among our Students, Faculty and Staff about the benefits of Yoga. J U N E

32 Monsoon Management Magic- M 3 COMES hosted the Opening Ceremony of 4 th consecutive Orientation Program for MBA - Monsoon Management Magic (M 3 ) on June 20 th This 4 week program (split into II phases) is to provide a foretaste of academic & non-academic engagements & challenges that lie ahead of students over the next two years in college. Students actively participated in various sessions and participated in MANTHAN - The Marketing Club and sports events like Volleyball (Boys) and Basketball (Girls) J U N E
