1 GRANTING SCHOLARSHIPS UNDER GOVERNMENT OF SRI LANKA PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN SUDNETS 2016/17 Government of Sri Lanka Presidential Scholarships programme for Foreign Students implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways has been in operation for six years. That provides scholarships annually to foreign students from identified countries. It is hoped that this would bring about stronger educational and cultural ties with friendly nations. This scholarship scheme offers international students a chance to enroll themselves in undergraduate programs conducted by some state universities in Sri Lanka. We are sure that the scholarship winners will be exposed to an environment with academic excellence, culture of hospitality in Asian setting and enticing climatic conditions. 01. 20 General Information Applications are invited from eligible students for the award of undergraduate scholarships offered by the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways (MoHEH), Sri Lanka for the academic year 2016/17 and the courses are to commence in November Since this is a government to government scholarship program, candidates shall apply for this scholarship with the recommendation of the government nominating agency (i.e. Ministry or the government Institution of his/her country). Scholarships are open for courses of studies other than Medical, Dental & Engineering. Medium of instruction is English Candidates can request for more than one course for securing chances to win a scholarship, identifying their preferences as places are limited in some fields. There may be instances where requested courses are not possible to offer due to unforeseen circumstances or limited places available in the particular field. If the given qualifications by the applicant are not compatible with the entry requirements of the university, those applications may not be successful. When completing the form, please ensure that you provide your full name as appeared in your passport. 21 Be a citizen of a country covered by this scholarship. A citizen of another country having Sri Lankan dual citizenship is not eligible to apply. I. Candidates with impressive results of an examination deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advance Level) Examination of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for admission to universities in Sri Lanka. i. Applicants are advised to attach the original letter obtained from the Board of Examinations to prove that his/her educational qualifications are equivalent to the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination (Sri Lanka) or qualifications required for admission to a university in their own country to follow a bachelor s degree. ii. Applicants should ensure that all required passes should be obtained in one and the same sitting under a recognized Board of Examination. II. It is expected that the scholarship recipient will meet the expenditure for food and accommodation with the monthly allowance of LKR 0,000/- The relevant university/higher educational institute will assist in finding suitable accommodation. V. Reimbursement of cost of air fare (economy class) to come to Sri Lanka and return his/her country after successful completion of studies [Payment is made for original bills only ]. Kindly note that all above payments are made in LKR VI. Free of charge medical facilities at government hospitals other than dental related diseases. [] Terms and Conditions I. Applicants except native English speakers must provide evidence of proficiency in English. Minimum score for TOEFL is 525 and minimum band score is 6.0 for IELTS. Page 21 of 2

22 II. III. IV. To cover the immediate expenses you are advised to bring approximately US$ 50. Living allowance is paid during the rd week of each month. Once admitted to a course of study the requests for change of the course/university will not be accepted. V. Scholarship holder should submit a health certificate issued by a government hospital of his/her country as per the attached format. VI. VII. Every student is required to undergo HIV/AIDS test and reports should be submitted to the MoHEH within a month after arrival. In case the scholarship holder cannot complete the course during the prescribed period due to reasons of ill health or other unavoidable circumstances, considerations will be given to extend the scholarship by a maximum of one year on the recommendation of the university. VIII. IX. The rules and regulations imposed by each university for the local students will also apply to the scholarship holders. Scholarship and studentship will be cancelled if; i. the student is failed to maintain a satisfactory academic performance according to the grading system of the university ii. iii. the student left Sri Lanka without getting approval from the university the student is reported any non- compliance of the rules and regulations of the university. X. If a student leaves the course prior to completion of his/her study programme he/she is liable to pay all the expenses incurred by the Government of Sri Lanka. [] How to apply I. Each applicant should submit duly perfected sets (one original) of applications along with all required documents to his/her government nominating agency. II. III. Each application should be recommended by the government nominating agency by filling out the section 06 B of the application. The government nominating agency of the applicant shall submit the applications with their recommendation to the Sri Lankan mission in his/her country for forwarding the same to the MoHEH, Sri Lanka. 23 present in his /her country, the government nominating agency can forward the applications directly to the MoHEH, Sri Lanka. IV. Required documents: i. Certified copy of Birth Certificate ii. iii. iv. Certified copies of the academic transcripts of G.C.E A/L and G.C.E O/L or their equivalents. Original letter obtained from the Board of Examinations Certified copy of IELTS/TOEFL certificate v. Certified copy of the data page of applicant s passport. The validity of the vi. vii. passport shall remain at least for 1 year after arrival to Sri Lanka Medical Certificate Police Report Note : Certified English translation must be provided for all the documents that are not in English.
