1 St. Patrick s School Newsletter March 2016 Proclamation Day 2016 On Tuesday 15th March both the Junior and Senior sites held Ceremonies to Commemorate the centenary of the Easter 1916 Rising and the reading of the Proclamation. School principal.stpatricksschool@gmail.com Friends of St Patricks School, Enniscorthy St. Patrick s School Newsletter March 2016 Volume 2, Issue 7 On both sites the Proclamation was read and a new version written by Senior 6, was also read by students on the Senior site. For our ceremony we were joined by parents and members of a reenactment group who were dressed in military outfits and costumes of the era. On the Senior site a lone piper played Amhrán na bhfiann whilst the Flag was raised. To round off, students, staff and guests were treated to tea, coffee and buns. Well done to all involved it was a very special day. 2 Operation Tai-Chi St. Patrick s United top in recent tournament The school soccer team was split into two teams recently one in our regular yellow kit the other using our old white strip. We had two reporters Evan Bolger and Craig Waters at the match to get all the news. Friday the 4th of March was the day of our soccer tournament. There were four teams. We played the first match against CWCW and the score was 3-0. Liam scored a great goal and everyone cheered. There were six matches. Everyone had a great time and played very well. St. Patrick s came first, CWCW second, CBS and the coaches came third. Nojus, Craig, Jack and Curtis scored great goals. 3 This month we have been looking at making choices and decisions, some are easy and some are more difficult to make so we have looked at some strategies to help us make good decisions. We have also looked at 'Work Safety' safety in the work place including Personal Protective Equipment and symbols. Congratulations to Anna, A.J and Brian for participating in the Fun Run, well done! Also congratulations to our past pupil Jim Byrne who came in 6th in the Men's race, a huge achievement. Senior 6 wrote a new Proclamation as part of the schools 1916 Centenary Celebrations and we are very proud of it, well done to the class students who made brilliant contributions to it. Our Proclamation is all about how to be a 'Good Citizen of Ireland'. We have made lovely 'Dream Catchers' in art and they are fabulous! We are starting a new art project with Mary Wallace, Community Artist, as part of the heritage in Schools Project after Easter. Four students in Senior 6 are completing their QQI Level 1 Certificate in General Learning modules and we will have our External Examination after Easter! We are all looking forward to the Easter holidays and to mark end of term we went Bowling on Tuesday. Enjoy the break everyone. An appeal for any old phones. We continue to work on our Dunbrody themed art project with fabric and fibre; they are really starting to take shape. Following the successful soccer tournament our budding sports journalist Evan Bolger, wrote a great commentary on the games, the full report can be read in this newsletter. RoisÍn O Neill and Ben McGovern are preparing their dance for the Local Oscars for the film Brooklyn, in the Riverside Park hotel on March 16 th.grace Kelly is looking forward to going to Lourdes during the Easter holidays. All in Senior 4 wish everyone a happy and healthy Easter break and don t get too sick on all the chocolate from the Easter eggs!! Sunday March 6 th was a bright if chilly day when hundreds gathered at St. Patrick s School. Students and their families, past pupils and friends of St. Patrick s all ready for the 5K Fun Run literally filled the place. Many staff came into school at 9am on a Sunday morning to register runners, help Frank in the kitchen and volunteer as stewards along the route. The event simply wouldn t happened without the help and support of the staff but a special mention must go to Ciara Boggan and Andrew Askew who undertook much of the legal work and preparation leading up to the day. The runners set off and the race quickly spread out with the first runners back in around 17 minutes over the next forty five minutes all our competitors completed the race. They were welcomed back to a well earned cup of soup thanks to Frank in the kitchen. The purpose of the day was to raise funds for a Hydrotherapy Pool in our new school in Drumgoold. At time of going to press we have raised 5900 which is a fantastic amount when this is put with the 6100 we raised last year we have towards the Hydrotherapy Pool. We appreciate all of your support and hopefully we ll see you next year.

5 The Sacrament of Reconciliation was held in the Junior School on Thursday last, March 10th. The students making their First Confession were Aimee O'Neill Redmond, Anna Gill, Lily Boyle, Jake Cloke, Jamie Furlong, Dean O Toole, Bobbie Jones, Jay Sinnott, Nadine Carr and Adam Delaney. Fr. Billy Swan was in attendance along with the parents and teachers of the students. Congratulations to all the students.
