2 - Project Brief - Conference Aims and Objectives Overview: - Agenda 01Conference The Conference is organized by : - TU Dortmund University/ Spatial Planning Faculty - Department of Urban Design and Land-Use Planning - German Jordanian University (GJU) - School of Architecture and Built Environment - Supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Project Brief: The Project is a three year cooperation between the German Jordanian university and TU-Dortmund. The project explored the role of The public space as a catalyst of urban transformation, taking a critical and comparative stance on the conceptualization and the role of public space and public urban nodes in urban integration, giving special focus to contexts of industrial areas, renaturalization of neglected ecological components, and integration of critical social groups. Parallel lessons were taken from the Ruhr Region in Germany and from the districts of Marka and Sahab within the geographical expanse of Amman - Jordan. Conference Overview: The Conference forms the culmination of the three year project by the two universities, taking a critical and comparative stance on the conceptualization and the role of public space and public urban nodes in urban integration, giving special focus to contexts of industrial areas, Parallel lessons were taken from the Ruhr Region in Germany and from the districts of Marka and Sahab within the geographical expanse of Jordan. The Conference will showcase the products of the Project, in form of student work, research projects and knowledge exchange that occurred among the German- Jordanian counterparts; it will showcase the role of major stakeholders envisioning and enabling urban transformation in Jordan; and will act as an international platform to discuss new ideas and create the opportunity to initiate a dialogue with esteemed colleagues and global intellectuals. The conference follows the broad themes of: Urban transformation and the role of public space, Nature based planning approaches, Social and cultural dimension of cities 2

7 12 Transportation within the stay: Public Transportation in Amman: The most common way of getting between cities is by bus, most of which are fifteen- or eighteenseater minibuses. Some larger buses and air-conditioned coaches also serve as public transport. City connecting busses usually depart when they are full rather than a specific time table. Public Tranportation in Amman: Amman Transportation map is unofficial map created by Maan Nasel Initiative. This map helps the residents and visitors of Amman plan their trips using the existing network of buses, Coasters and services. Information in the map has been collected through a network of volunteers, and we encourage you all to join in and feed the map with more routes covering different parts of the city and eventually the whole country. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and, to the north, a more limited one of the valley of the River Jordan.The duration from Madba Downtown to the mount is a 15 min drive.
