2 10 th August 2016 (Term 3, Week 3) Roll 386 Congratulations to our Engineers Team who came 4 th in the Waikato EPR08 Competition. We have had 2 engineers teams enter competitions this year. From this we have seen the positive way children have engaged. We will use this as a catalyst to invest money into hands-on technology over the coming 1-3 years. Our children along with the rest of the country are focused on the Olympic Games at present. We have many parents and children along with hundreds of others from all over the district attending the Velodrome on Friday morning to watch the cycling. The staff and children created a human Go NZ message including the silver fern and sent this to the NZ Olympic team. Children are currently training for cross country. Our school cross country takes place on Friday, 26th August with interschool s on Friday, 9th. We encourage extra training for older children, as it will be of benefit when competing at interschool s. The new school payment system in school is going well. A reminder that sausage s for the Friday sizzle are to be ordered and paid for on Thursday s or Friday s between am in the hall. No orders are taken in class. We have effectively removed all money from having to go through classes, allowing teaching and learning to begin in the mornings. This system change came through by utilising a Kaizen approach to an inefficiency in the school. A reminder that the staff or Board of Trustees takes no responsibility or liability for children onsite until 8.30am. Children arriving at school before 8.30am should be in either Before School Care or accompanied by a parent until 8.30am. Parents carry the risk under Health and Safety for children who are dropped off before this time and left unsupervised. Next week rooms 3 and 4 are off to Tongariro National Park for camp. Week 6 will see rooms 1 and 2 follow suit. Children will ski or snowboard, visit the army museum and complete a rationing exercise, along with walks and other activities. We wish these children all the best in making the most of the opportunity, challenging themselves over the week. Next Thursday(18 th August) at 10.00am is the Ambassadors morning tea held in the staffroom. It is open to all parents. These morning teas are an opportunity to hear what is happening and planned at school, while giving us ideas for how to further improve the school. Please do come along. Our café is open in the mornings between 7.30am-9.15am and again in the afternoons between 2.45pm-3.30pm. It sells a range of hot and cold drinks and tasty food. Like the Dilmah man says, do try it. I will be on camp with Rutherford classes next week so Mrs Douglas is in charge. We have a number of parents involved at the Olympics and and wish them well as they support our Rio athletes. NEW PAYMENTS TO SCHOOL SYSTEM Our new payments to school system is operating well. There are envelopes available at the deposit box also, located in the school office. Here is a picture of our deposit box which will be cleared several times during the day. If you have any queries about how the new system works, please see the office. FOUR PEAKS COFFEE BAR Quote of the Day bring us your best quote. Our favourite will be posted on our Blackboard, the winner each week will receive a free drink. Coffee Grinds - bring a container and we will fill it with coffee grinds. These are great compost, worm food, fertilizer and more. Cross Country on cross country day we will be open from pm. Our local ANZ home loan specialist is Emma McCrory IMAGE APPAREL UNIFORM UPDATE We have been advised by Image Apparel (our uniform supplier in Duke St, Cambridge) that the supplier of the school culottes is out of stock. The next shipment is due in. If you are unable to source 2 nd hand or donated culottes, girls will be allowed to wear PE shorts to school until the shipment arrives. They are also short of some sizes of the short sleeved girls blouses but have all sizes in the long sleeve. We apologise on behalf of Image Apparel, but it is out of their control. FARMLANDS LIFESTYLER DAY 13 TH AUGUST This Saturday join Farmlands Hautapu for some amazing deals and fun activities including taking care of young animals.
