2 Community at Pasadena is a group that brings together people with a shared vision for and a commitment to supporting Pasadena Intermediate School. Members of the group consist of parents/caregivers, staff, representatives from the Board of Trustees and others from the wider community who have an interest in the wellbeing of the school. If you would like more information about what s happening at school through C@P or you would like to be included on our mailing list then contact Felicity Stevens felicity@nutshell.netnz or Nic Smith or nicsmith@xtra.co.nz Being part of C@P is also a great way of meeting other parents and being more involved with your child s school. We do hold regular monthly meetings which you are welcome to attend. Next Meeting: 7.30pm, Wednesday 25 August 2010 in Te Tari Whaainga Maatauranga - Library Information Centre. CENTRAL ZONE GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT Pasadena entered a team in the Central Zone Girls Basketball Tournament held at the Waitakere Stadium recently. Thank you also to Dean Pooley and Maureen Shelford for your support and help with transport on the day. INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR The 2010 Prospectus details the expectations and standards of personal behaviour we have of all students. Page 15, STUDENT WELFARE, PASADENA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL CODE Items 5, 6, 7 & 8 detail these expectations very clearly - 5. All students are expected to be courteous and sensible at all times. They are expected to allow others to learn without interruption. 6. Students are expected to be sensitive to the feelings of others and to display tolerance of difference, including gender, race, culture, religion and ability. 7. Assault, violence, physical abuse, verbal abuse, bullying, social, sexual, religious, physical, intellectual, cultural, age, gender harassment and foul language are considered anti-social and unacceptable forms of behaviour. 8. All students are expected to be honest. Property and possessions belonging to others will be left alone. This information is also in the 2010 Student Information Book. Please note item 7 above includes telephone, text and social network bullying and harassment. The warm atmosphere, supportive tone and cooperative student attitude are characteristics of Pasadena Intermediate School that authorities and visitors regularly comment on. We would be grateful of your continued support in maintaining these standards. Students who consider they are the victims of any of the above anti social behaviours are encouraged to speak up and they will be supported 100% by the school and staff. Sometimes however, there are students who feel afraid to speak up, who feel reporting the matter may further compound the problem for them - this is not the case. If you are aware your child is suffering because of other student/s behaviour and they need help in dealing with the problem - we want to know. My congratulations to all Pasadena Intermediate students for the warmth and hospitality they extended to our visitors and the extremely mature way in which they conducted themselves and interacted with our overseas guests both in classrooms and in the school in general. We extend a huge thank you to those families who have kindly accepted the Korean Teachers into their homes as homestays - Wayne & Helen Verkerk, Amber Cooper & Darryl Smith, Lisa & Rick Todd, Wendy & Dave Allan, Jackie & Keith Hogan, Hanna Bray & Douglas Anderson, Carole & Mike Myers, Christine Brennan, Gary Chambers & Sarah Coughlan and Bronwyn Webster & Ian Mortimer. Thank you to all members of the staff for the extra efforts they made to make the programme a success. Thank you also to the teachers involved and the staffs of Pt Chevalier, Westmere and Redoubt North Schools for their major contributions to the success of the programme. VALUABLES, MONEY, CLOTHING In a large institution there always exists the possibility that items of property will be lost or go missing. It cannot be too strongly emphasised that parents/ caregivers can assist the school by clearly labelling all items of clothing and equipment. When an item of clothing is lost, students should check in the lost property in the sick bay. Parents/ caregivers are also welcome to check. At the end of each year, unclaimed clothing is forwarded to a local charitable organization. Large sums of money or articles of substantial value, eg. electronic games must not be brought to school. When necessary, teachers will hold money for safe keeping on the understanding that all due care is given, but no responsibility is accepted. ROBO CUP JUNIOR REGIONALS Last weekend, Pasadena Intermediate entered thirteen teams in the National RoboCup Competition. This is certainly a competition designed with an eye to the future, the participants are required to construct and programme a robot for a specific task! The two tasks were: Primary Rescue, and Dance ABSENCES/LATENESS We ask that parents/caregivers advise the school of their child s absence or lateness by 8.30am. This enables classroom teachers to be advised before school commences and reduces the number of attendance telephone calls the administration staff need to make each morning.
