PAGE Christmas Card Collection Last term, students collected Christmas cards for their annual House Competition and have been lucky enough to work with two local companies to enable this to be their best year yet! We have worked with Blue Castle Waste management from Long Bennington who will collect the cards and use the rebate from the material. The two to charities that benefit are Beaumond House Hospice and Inspire+. Sainsbury s have helped by donating all their cards collected in store to the school. The winning House was KNIGHT!!!! Pre-loved Book Sale Morris block. Year 7 Antibullying assembly on 2nd February. * G&T Dance Workshop `Move it` in London: 13th Feb 2015 Mrs Hill, Mrs Geeson and students. Auditions for Les Miserables On Saturday, 17th January over 140 students visited The Priory Ruskin Academy to participate in the auditions for a part in the Summer Musical, `Les Miserables`. A West End Director is going to work with students from Priory Ruskin and also other local schools. It was a very long and intense day but we now have an amazing cast for the show which will take place as part of the launch of the new build week, at the end of July Gifted and talented dancers across all key stages were recently invited to take part in a workshop led by Louise Gibbs from Dance4 s Centre for Advanced Training. Students were initially led through an intensive technical lesson. Here, they enhanced their movement vocabulary and developed skills that shall act as a fantastic foundation for progress through both their academic and external dance studies. The latter part of the G&T Dance workshop workshop provided students with alternative strategies for the creative process of choreography. Students were thoroughly engaged and intrigued throughout, gradually relinquishing inhibitions and devising original pieces of their own contemporary choreography. The workshop has already proven to be an inspiration to the students involved. NEXT G&T Workshop `Move It` is in London on 13th Feb 2015

British culture... Skylark Battlefield P A G E 3 On 27th January 2015, there was a History workshop in the hall which involved 210 Year 9 students and was called `Skylark Battlefield Workshop`. It was a great opportunity for students to learn from objects about life in the trenches during World War I. In the afternoon students were given the opportunity to handle some of the weaponry used in WW1. Joint Environmental Project with Primary schools The Science Department have been working with local Primary schools including Gonerby Hill Foot, Great Ponton, Cliffedale and Harlaxton, on a project called the SCoRE programme. The SCoRE (Schools Collaboration on Resource Efficiency) Programme, is an award winning scheme developed by Lincolnshire County Council in partnership with the Carbon Trust aimed specifically at schools to help them reduce their energy bills and CO 2 emissions.. Charity begins at home... Tutor groups, teachers and SLT are all collecting loose change in jam jars and will continue to do so throughout the year. This money will go to a charity chosen by the school and so far the school has raised over 200!

E SAFETY assembly given to ALL Year 7, 8 & 9 CAREERS TALK by the NHS NHS Congratulations to Sophie Scorer, Chloe Scorer and Kieron Barclay. They have all been awarded the title of Community Silver Sports Ambassador. This is as a result of their exceptional commitment and ability as SSm young leaders or volunteers. A Young Ambassador's role is to: presentation to Yr 9 to highlight possible career opportunities. Lincoln University Visit 2015 On 21st January 2015, students in Year 12 and 13 were given the opportunity to go to Lincoln University and participate in an Engineering masterclass. As part of the day students had to work in groups and design a `hovercraft`. After which, they were given a tour of Lincoln University campus and also the Engineering department. The aim of the day was to give students an insight in to the life of a student at Lincoln University but also specifically what the Engineering course would involve. Swimarathon 2015 Silver Sports Ambassador Staff and students recently swam in the 2015 Swimarathon at The Meres Leisure Centre. Participants took part in teams of eight and were sponsored to complete as many lengths of the pool as possible within an hour. The event is a fantastic means for The Priory Ruskin Academy to make a valuable contribution to the local community as all monies raised are donated to local charities. increase participation and healthy lifestyles in schools be a role model and advocate for sporting activity be the young peoples' voice on PE and school sport in their schools and communities. The Young Ambassador programme seeks to develop young leaders and volunteers by giving them the responsibility of being an ambassador for PE and school sport. The individuals will now form a vital link between the students, teachers and in this area, Inspire+. be a role model and advocate for sporting activity.

British Values: Respect and Tolerance BOCCIA TOURNAMENT For the first time, Priory Ruskin took a team to the Boccia Tournament at St George s Sleaford. Boccia is a game that is similar to bowls but is played by people with physical disabilities. We were conscious of the fact that none of them had played Boccia before (except for Angus!) so we arrived super early to get some practice in. After going over the rules briefly and having 2 practice games, the team had their first match. The game was against Middlecott school and the boys won 3-2. As the second game progressed they seemed to develop a better technique, and produced a convincing win of 7 1 against Peele B. After coming top of our group in the morning, we automatically qualified for the next round which is the Lincolnshire School Summer Games in July!! In the finals, after two closely fought games between St George s A (3 9) and St George s B (3 6) our team finished 3rd in the whole competition and received bronze medals! It was a fantastic day and the team played exceptionally well. Congratulations go to: Kyle Morton Liam Atkinson Peter Merryweather Angus Brown PD Day 2015: Yr 7 `Roots to Food` cooking challenge On Wednesday, 4th February 2015, Year 7 10 students participated in a whole day of Personal Development activities including PD Day workshop Yr 9 Importance of Family PD Day workshop Yr 8 Bike Maintenance PD Day Feb 2015 see separate brochure 4th February 2015

P A G E 6 BTEC L3 Music Course is now open for places in Year 12 starting in Sept `15 During the last week of term, all of the Year 12 BTEC L3 Music students each organized and performed a solo music recital. Students performed on guitars, drums, piano and they also sang. Mrs Rossington said,` I am so proud of the students and delighted to be working with such talented students.` Each solo recital lasted about minutes and the BTEC L3 Music Recitals students invited their friends to the performance. This was their first official performance on the course. Their next performance is at Cameleons, Grantham, in March Performing Arts Trip to see `Broke` On 5th February, the Performing Arts Department took 30 students to watch a play called Broke at the Guildhall in Grantham. It was a thought provoking play that was about poverty in Britain and low income families. There were a real mix of students from Year 7-11 and they were a real credit to the Academy. Caption describing picture or graphic. Trip to Netball Super League On 5th February, the PE department took a group of girls to see the Netball Super League match between Loughborough Lightning and Celtic Dragons. The girls were an absolute credit to the school and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Final score: Loughborough 58 Celtic Dragons 44 S M S C A N D C O M M U N I T Y R E P O R T
