For details see: Day passes are available (a maximum of 2 per year). Visitors are asked to register at the Enquiry Desk. The Collection rrangement The collection is arranged by jurisdiction: statutes, law reports, periodicals and textbooks /monographs are shelved, in that order, within each jurisdiction. Special subjects have their own sections. s well as holding the major law collection for the University of Oxford, the Law Library also houses the European Documentation Centre 2

3 and the Bodleian s Official Papers Collection. See the floor plans at back of brochure. Course books in heavy demand are kept at the Reserve Desk and may be borrowed for use within the library. Newly received journals are displayed to the right of the library entrance, and the display is changed weekly. New Books Bulletin is posted weekly at Official Papers The Bodleian Collection of Official Papers is on the Ground Floor. Submit your research enquiries to official.papers@bodleian.ox.ac.uk Catalogue SOLO, can be used to find items held in the Bodleian Law Library and most other academic institutions in Oxford. See the online user guide at Using the books The BLL is a reference library only - books may not be borrowed or taken out of the library. Most are on open access shelves. Books in heavy demand, such as those on reading lists, may be held at the Reserve Desk, but remain available for consultation to all. Please remember to fill in book slips when you remove a book from the shelves, with your seat number, your name and the book s details. It would be appreciated if you remembered to place books onto a trolley when you have finished with them. The Bodleian Social Science Library This library is located in the Manor Road Building next to the St Cross Building. It holds journals and monographs used for the teaching of criminology and socio-legal studies. 3

4 Inter library loans If the Bodleian Libraries do not have a title you need, the Law Library may be able to arrange interlibrary loans from other institutions. For further details, please read Reference and Research Law Library staff have extensive experience in legal research and a good knowledge of the collection. Please feel free to ask any staff member for assistance on any legal research or library related matters. Legal research classes, induction and guides The Law Library holds a range of research classes freely available to all Oxford students. Details are posted on the web site and in the regular LawBod News. You can sign up for these classes via Extensive induction for new undergraduate and graduate students is provided at the start of each academic year. There are online guides to various parts of the collection (both print and electronic) at Legal databases and information services The Law Library provides a wide range of legal databases as well as links to free law-related web sites. full list of the legal databases is available from the Law Library home page at Please ask at the Enquiry Desk for further details and help with searching. There is also extensive access to other e-resources such as non-legal databases, catalogues and information services via the Bodleian platform, called OxLIP+. 4

5 Reference queries Reference Librarians are available to assist you with research related queries; please make an appointment via the Book a Librarian form: or ask for them at the Enquiry Desk. Using the Law Library Seats Please use the seating in the middle of the Main Reading Room on Level 2 unless you are a research student who has been allocated a specific seat or assigned to a block of seats around the perimeter of the room. Seating is also available on Level near the European Union materials, on Level 3 near the international law materials, and on the Ground Floor for those wishing to consult Official Papers. The Graduate Reading Room is located on Level. Seminar and discussion room The Baker & McKenzie Seminar and Discussion Room on Level 2 of the library is used by the Law Faculty for time- tabled seminars. When not in use for seminars it is available to all readers for discussion or quiet study. Books may be taken into the room. Computers and laptops There are catalogue terminals located throughout the Library. General purpose access to databases, the internet and applications such as Word is available on computers in the Level 3 Small Computer Room. There are a further 26 workstations in the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer IT Room on Level, for use by Law Faculty students and staff. ll these workstations also provide access to the catalogue, 5

6 general applications such as Word, and the databases provided by the Bodleian Libraries. Work must be saved to a USB memory stick or sent to your ; you cannot save work to a Library computer. You may use laptop computers in any of the seating areas so long as they do not disturb other readers. Wireless access is provided. Please see the leaflet Essential IT Information. We recommend that you secure your laptop with a computer lock. Photocopying, printing and scanning There are five self-service printer/copiers, and a microform reader printer. It is possible to scan documents and the resulting pdf version to your own or download it to a USB memory stick. PCS account is needed to pay for all printing, scanning or photocopying done in the Library. See the library leaflet called Printing, Scanning and Photocopying has further details. The Printing, Copying & Scanning Room is on Level 2. PCS machines are also available on Level and Level 3. There are copying restrictions. Observation of copyright law is your responsibility. Copyright notices are displayed by each machine. You may not photocopy books from Locked cases, including theses, or any old or fragile volumes, or any looseleaf works. Please ask a member of staff for assistance with these materials. 6
