A school environment is created in which a belief in God s teachings are integrated into the school program and stressed as a way of life. Farewell Grade 8 Class We would like to wish our Grade 8 class all the best as they move on to their Grade 9 placements. We are very proud of your accomplishments and know that you will continue to strive for excellence as you move through high school. Congratulations and best of luck! Invitation to the Grade 8 Farewell Breakfast and School Mass We would like to honor our graduating Grade 8 class by holding a special breakfast for the students and parents on Wednesday June 17th, in the Church Square. We also invite the parents to stay and attend the final School Mass of the year if that is possible. At this Mass, we will celebrate the years the students have attended at St. Augustine, by dedicating this Mass to the Grade 8 students and their families. Breakfast - 8:00 am Mass -9:30 am
2 Service Assembly Wednesday June 3rd This year we are holding our service assembly to honor students who serve our school. We will be honoring all those students who throughout the school year have volunteered their time to help with various needs. Many students have been microwave assistants, canteen workers, milk delivery persons, yearbook committee members, alter servers, SALT team and school patrols. St. Augustine s Got Talent Gr. 4-8 Talent show on Tuesday, June 23rd in the school gym pm. Everyone welcome to attend. Many of the classes will be spending some time in June on special field trips. Waiver forms will be sent home, so please keep an eye out for them and return them to school as soon as possible. We appreciate your attention to this detail. In order to volunteer for field trips you must have your Criminal/Child Abuse Checks done. Supply Lists Watch for the supply list for next fall which will be inserted in each student s report card at the end of June. 2 Humane Society Fundraiser The Grade 3 class will be raising money for the Humane Society by hosting a bake sale and a "nail salon" on June 10th during recesses for students in Grades 1-3. Bake sale items.50 Nail painting $1.00 Field Trips Library News The last day to take out library books will be Friday, June 12th. All library books need to be returned by Friday, June 19th. The library will then be closed for the remainder of the year to do inventory. Canteen The canteen will be closed June 25th, 26th and 29th. Please remember to pack snacks and lunches on these days. Religion fee Just a reminder that School/Religion fees need to be paid before the first day of school in September in order for your child to receive the religious materials for the year. Please forward these fees to the school if you have not done so already. If you would like to make other arrangements for payment, please call the school at Mini Camp The Myriam Sisters (from Regina, Sask.) will be at St Augustine's July 7,8,9,10th (Tues-Fri) to lead children in 4 afternoons of drama, singing, & games as they help children learn more about Jesus and His teachings. Time: 1pm-4pm Registration fee $20/ child or $40/family For ages 5-12 Special presentation for parents, family & parishioners, at 3:30 Friday July 10th Call or the parish office for more information office@staug.ca See School bulletin board for more information
3 Catholic School Board Throughout this year, several capital projects were completed. The BCSB acquired additional playground space and has added new fencing to surround the perimeter. This summer landscaping and the erection of two soccer goals are scheduled to be completed. BCSB also purchased new guitars for the Worship Band and new metal boot racks for Grades 5 8. The BCSB also continued to administer the Before and After School program and provide an additional noon hour supervisor. Thank you to Mr. Miles, Mrs. Atamanchuk, Mrs. Merckx Deutscher and Mrs. Lawrence for your dedication and service to St. Augustine school! Lost and Found Items will be displayed on Mon. June 22nd in the front foyer. Last date to pick up any items will be Monday, June 29th. Awards Assembly On June 29th, St. Augustine school will be hosting their annual awards ceremony for Grades 4-8. This assembly will be held in the school gym starting at 1:15 pm and all parents are invited to attend. You will be contacted by phone if your child is receiving an award. We would like to acknowledge our sponsors the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Women s League, Sally Scaletta, Brandon Catholic School Board, Brandon School Division, St. Augustine Parent Council, Rotary Club as well as our school fundraising all of whom contribute to honoring the achievements of our students. Holy Childhood Association Collection for Holy Childhood association was $ "Thank you" to those who shared their wealth with others. This collection is from both the Parish and St.Augustine school. St. Augustine School Volunteer Recognition To recognize the many volunteers who have helped in our school this year, $ has been donated to help purchase a lighting system for school concerts etc. Many of our volunteers have helped in the classroom, on field trips, driving students, coaching sports, organizing food days and fundraising for the playground/parent council. We appreciate all the work done by our volunteers.your help greatly enriches our programs at St. Augustine School and we are very grateful for your generous sharing of your time and talents. 3
4 Principal s Message As another successful school year draws to a close, I am reminded how God has blessed me with the opportunity to lead such a marvelous school! My position is made much easier with the support of the fine students, parents and staff of St. Augustine. We are all truly blessed to live our faith daily and simultaneously receive a high quality education! To the graduating Grade 8 students, I have been privileged to see you all develop your talents over the last three years. I hope you will look back at your time spent at St. Augustine School with fondness and come back to visit often! To returning students, I hope you enjoy your upcoming summer holidays you have all earned a break to spend with your families and friends. To the dedicated staff of St. A, my sincere thanks for all your professionalism and dedication! You have all been great mentors to the students and colleagues to each other!
