On Monday the PNG Grade 12 students sit for their Written Expression exam. It is important that they are all here at school on time well before 8am. In Weeks five and six we will have trial exams for Grade 10 and Grade 12 students. And this is all happening along with school dances and everything else that is going on including the start of the IEA Junior Netball competition. Our netball teams in the POM competition sadly lost in their grand finals but we are all very proud of the effort they put in and we hope that their achievement in doing so well inspires the junior girls. POMIS Skoolbag App We are continuing with the trial of the POMIS App for mobile phones. If you wish to use the app it can be downloaded for free. Just look for our school name Port Moresby International School in the Android, Apple or Windows App Store, and install it on your phone. If using a Windows phone, tablet or computer it must be 8.1 OS or higher. Look for the Skoolbag app first, then download the POMIS version. It should be noted that while the app is free to parents and students and it does cost the school money. Part of the trial is to see how many parents/students sign up. Clearly we need to have a reasonable number of people to sign up in order to justify the cost to the school of the app. School Fees Parents are reminded of IEA Policy on School Fees; 1. No student who has fees owing from Term 2 should be allowed to commence school in Term No student should be attending school after the end of Week 2 if they have not entered into an acceptable agreement for the way in which their fees will be paid for the remainder of the year. 3. After the end of Week 2 no student should be attending school if fees have not been paid at least to the end of the current week. In other words, all agreements must involve fees being paid in advance. During this week some students have been removed from classes as they had outstanding fees from Term 2. During the next two weeks we will be following up on students who have not paid Term 3 fees. If you know that you are in this category then we would encourage you to contact the bursar to deal with this and try and avoid your child having the embarrassment of being taken out of class. 2 2Mission: Excellence, Commitment, Diversity & Integrity. School Dance Week 4 We will be having a dance next week, Friday. The dance will be organised by the Grade 11 students who are gradually stepping up and taking over as the Grade 12s focus more and more on their exams. Parents are reminded that the gates close at 7pm. Students need to have their ticket and ID cards to gain admittance. Students have to have a permission letter signed by parents before they can purchase a ticket. The dance finishes at 9:10pm for Grade 7 & 8, 9:20pm for Grade 9 & 10 and 9:30pm for Grade 11 & 12. All students should be collected by 9:50pm. If students are not collected by then they will not be allowed to attend future dances. Trial Exams These will run through Weeks 5 & 6. The Grade 10 PNG trial exams will be in Week 5 and during that time normal Grade 10 classes will be suspended. Students need only come for their exams. All Grade 10 PNG students will have exams each morning but if they have no exam in the afternoon they may go home. The Grade 12 PNG trial exams will be in Week 6 and during that time normal Grade 12 classes will be suspended. Students should only come for their exams but need to check their schedule carefully so that they do not miss any. Grade 10 IGCSE and Grade 12 IB trials will run through the two weeks. Schedules will be distributed to students and made available to parents. If overseas students who are not involved in PNG trial exams come to school while the PNG exams are on, supervision will be arranged for them. It should be noted that in some cases they are required to sit these exams as part of their assessment. The individual subject assessment outline will make this clear. 4 4Mission: Excellence, Commitment, Diversity & Integrity. PE NEWS Netball It has been a fantastic season for all 3 POMIS Netball teams who played in the town competition. All 3 teams made it to the grand finals. The U17C team were also Minor Premiers. All the girls have shown great commitment throughout the season. During the finals the girls were up against tough opponents.. Despite their efforts all 3 teams lost. All 3 teams (U17A, U17C and the U21A) showed great skill in passing, shooting and defending. Unfortunately it was not their day. However, our girls did collect several awards:- U17C best mid-court player went to Lizzie Hombi, U17A best defender went to Ramia Takin and t he U21 best defender went to Gloria Nii. It was also announced that Ramia Takin was selected for the National U21 Netball team. That makes 3 POMIS girls in the 15 woman squad - Rowena Djengozov, Eloise Vele and Ramia Takin. Well done to all the girls for a fantastic season. Lets hope that the Junior Girls are as successful in the School Netball competition which starts this Saturday at TEMIS. 5 Mission: Excellence, Commitment, Diversity & Integrity. 5 Rugby Union The Boys and Girls Rugby Union teams have been playing curtain raiser games at the Sir John Guise Stadium for the National Provincial Rugby 15 s tournament. The first game was the Boys U15 team playing POM Grammar. It was a good game with the boys showing great skill and energy. They eventually won The U15 POMIS Reds played the U15 POMIS Blues on Wednesday. This was a great game, full of hard hits and flowing ball skills. The POMIS Red ended up winning. The U17 Boys team took on POM Grammar. However they were short of players so POMIS lent them 9 players. This made the game much more even, with flowing rugby been played by both teams. POMIS were just to strong and won the match. On Sunday the U19 Girls team played Salvation Army in a 10-a-side match. This was full of huge tackles and powerful runs. They put on an awesome performance and won the game This game was followed by the U17 Boys who also played Salvation Army. The boys dominated the field in all areas and showed some real skill. They ended up winning 7-0. On Saturday 13th August all 4 teams will play curtain raisers. This includes the U15, U19 Girls and the U15, U17 Boys teams. Please come along and support the teams.
