About Manor College Out of Hours School Learning and Enrichment Opportunities Flourish - Specialist and Pastoral Support for our Students School Day and School Calendar Every pupil at Manor Academy is now provided with an ipad, creating an environment a world away from the typical 'classroom', and provides the potential for seamless integration of technology and traditional teaching. Students will use them for state of the art learning during the day and then take them home to use in the evening with their parents/carers.

The Manor Academy aims to provide an outstanding education for all of its students and I am passionate about driving forward this vision. I believe that the community deserves an outstanding Academy; I am ready and eager to take on this challenge and look forward to leading a confident and successful place of learning for our students. Ensuring that every student reaches their full potential both academically and vocationally is very much the key to the Academy s future success. As well as our trailblazing New Basics and Expressway curriculum, we have also remodelled our staffing structure, introduced a unique assessment framework and have placed a huge emphasis on improving learning and teaching through a focused and personalised CPD programme for staff. One of the biggest changes in 2014 will be the introduction of an ipad for every student and teacher as part of our e-learning strategy. This journey will be really exciting and a first for Nottinghamshire! I invite you to take part in that journey with us. ipads will ensure that our students are fully equipped to learn anytime, anywhere - whether in class, at home, on holiday or after school with their friends. 5 Our recent investment of half-a-million-pounds in a new Wi-Fi network at the Academy is benefitting both staff and students, who are now able to learn in and out of the classroom and can access learning materials on portable and desktop devices at any given time we believe this is the future of education. Our 44 acre campus includes a sports centre, a full-sized all-weather sports pitch, an outstanding café offering hot and cold foods, a construction centre, an engineering workshop, a hair and beauty salon, state of the art ICT suites, our own theatre and dance studios and a comprehensive library we even have our own farm! The Manor Academy has developed a number of partnerships with specialist organisations and other schools which give our students a fantastic range of enrichment opportunities. Our partnership with The Royal Ballet School, for example, means that our students get access to workshops and classes led by specially trained ballet teachers.

7 YEAR 7 STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT OUR INNOVATIVE which combines real world experience with an intrinsic literacy and numeracy drive. Housed in our newly refurbished New Basics Centre, each student belongs to one of three Pods named after inspirational Olympians; Ennis, Hoy and Adlington. The Pod learning environment allow students to feel the safety of a primary whilst gently adapting to secondary school life. New Basics students study seventeen periods a week in their Pods and six periods studying purely English and Maths. Our quality marked Physical Education syllabus accounts for two periods a week and takes place in our state-of-the-art Sports Complex. The rest of the study periods are grouped into what we call Rich Tasks, all of which result in a celebratory performance where the students present their work to the rest of the Academy staff and students.

9 The Expressway curriculum allows students who are progressing well to move up, and for students who need more time to have the support they need. It has been designed using three key principals: It is focussed on the stage of each student s learning progress, not their age It is tailored to suit each individual student s learning It offers every student flexibility and choice Our curriculum provides challenges for all students at all levels. The Academy has high expectations of all pupils encouraging them to flourish in whatever course they study. Curriculum areas and associated subjects have now been divided into four Strands : Discovery, Strive, Voyage and Enigma. The Academy recognises that English and Maths is a critical component of every student s learning so we have combined our English and Match curriculum into the Enigma Strand. Students are required to study the Enigma curriculum throughout the year, however, they have the opportunity to vary their subjects in other strands each semester to widen their knowledge and give them an insight into a variety of subject areas. Science, Design and Technology forms the Discovery Strand, Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages forms the Voyage Strand, and Expressive Arts and Physical Education forms the Strive Strand.

11 Manor College offers incredible enrichment opportunities for the students such as Extended Projects, Internships, Sports Leaders Awards, Careers Master Classes, Volunteering Awards and Duke of Edinburgh. As part of our link with Jin Cai High School in Shanghai, we can also offer Manor College students the opportunity of a once-in-a-lifetime visit to China saw Manor College s most successful year to date! As well as having access to the Academy s excellent facilities, Manor College students also have their very own purpose built facility which includes an IT suite, study room and a common room where students can socialise and relax in their study breaks. Manor College is part of the Mansfield Learning Partnership Post 16 Provision a collaboration of four schools in the Mansfield area. (Manor College, The Brunts Academy, Queen Elizabeth s Academy and Garabaldi College.) These schools work together to share the provision for post 16 learning. This means that students who can t access courses at Manor College can use the partnership to access their chosen course at another school. The MLP also engages local employers and business people, working together to provide the best possible education for young people in Mansfield.

12 Out of Hours School Learning and Enrichment Opportunities The Manor Academy offers students a broad range of activities and opportunities to provide them a rich educational experience both within the curriculum and out of school hours. Enrichment opportunities, clubs and societies at the Academy include: ICT Club Trampolining Sign Language Club Hair and Beauty Media Club Creative Writing Club Glee Club Football Rugby Basketball Dodge Ball Netball Dance Craft Club Manor Sing Stars Maths Club Science Club Manor Academy also holds themed days; Number Day, World Book Day, National Poetry Day and Pi Day for example, as well as numerous fundraising days for local and national charities where all students are encouraged to get actively involved.

13 If students have something that is affecting them in or out of school, our Flourish team are there to help. Our specialist team of support staff offer support, advice and guidance with any personal issues that may be impacting on studies, these can include behavioural issues, transition, emotional, attendance and family issues.
