2 Welcome to Stoberry Park Primary School Stoberry Park School started life in September 2001 as a result of an amalgamation of Stoberry Park Infant School and Stoberry Park Junior School. It is a primary school with approximately 310 pupils on role offering education to pupils from the ages of Our school benefits from extensive grounds, playing fields, trees, woodland, playgrounds and outdoor play equipment. We make full use of these grounds with a wide range of sporting opportunities and we place a good deal of emphasis on the outdoor curriculum. Our dedicated teaching staff are divided into four teams: Foundation Stage, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6. Their skills have enabled us to achieve a wide range of awards in recent years including International School Status, Healthy Schools Award, Investors in People, Dyslexia Friendly Status and Eco Schools. It is the primary aim of staff and governors to provide a safe, caring and happy learning environment where we nurture the varied talents of all our children, encouraging them to strive for the highest standards they can, in all aspects of school life. We trust that the information in this prospectus will answer many of the questions you may have. 4 Curriculum The school follows the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum for children in years 1-6. This includes English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Geography, History, PE, Art, Music, and Design Technology. Children are also taught Religious Education, Personal, Social and Health Education and a Modern Foreign Language (from Year 3). Pupils in our Reception classes follow a Foundation Stage curriculum which builds on their pre-school experiences and prepares them for their future learning. Teachers carefully plan a wide range of play-based learning experiences to allow the children to broaden their skills and deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them. Wherever possible, opportunities are given to play, learn and explore outside the classroom. Trips and visits are frequent across the school as are visits to the school from interesting and relevant external parties. We also work with Somerset Music to provide opportunities to learn a range of instruments during the school day. There is a charge for instrumental tuition. Pupils have the opportunity to take part in residential visits in Years 4 and 6 where children benefit from a range of experiences and activities impossible to offer during a standard school day. Extra Curricular Activities Stoberry Park School is pleased to be able to offer a wide range of extra curricular activities, normally provided after school hours from Year 1 onwards. Some clubs are run voluntarily and free of charge by school staff, sometimes supported by parents or other members of the community. Other activities are run by outside organisations and do incur a charge. The variety of activities varies from year to year and from term to term but in the last year have included: Tennis, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Netball, Country Dancing, Mad Science, Italian, Dodgeball, Gymnastics, Book Club and Singing Club.

5 School Lunches We are fortunate to be able to offer cooked school lunches prepared freshly for us each day, delivered and served in the school hall. The menu is interesting and varied with several choices available each day. Children not taking a school lunch are required to bring a packed lunch and drink. We encourage all parents to ensure that packed lunches are healthy and nutritious and guidelines for suitable lunches are available from the school office. In addition to lunch, all pupils are required to bring a bottle of water and a fruit or vegetable snack to be eaten mid-morning. Our younger children are also provided with a fruit or vegetable snack in the afternoon. Uniform Stoberry Park School is very proud of its distinctive purple uniform and asks that all pupils adhere to our dress code, as wearing the uniform is a mark of belonging to the school community.

6 Extended Services Stepping Stones Playgroup Within our school site, we are fortunate to have an excellent pre-school facility that accepts children from the age of 2½. Although run independently, playgroup staff work closely with our Early Years Foundation Stage staff to ensure a smooth progression from playgroup to school. Stepping Stones can be contacted on: SPARKS Many of our parents and children benefit greatly from a before and after school club with its own modern building on site which is open every school day from am and from pm. SPARKS also runs full day schemes during the school holidays. SPARKS can be contacted on: Circle of Friends All parents automatically become members of the Circle of Friends which is a charity run by committee to raise additional funds for projects around the school and which contributes in many ways to the school community by engaging in activities to support the school.

7 Admissions and Induction Arrangements Our admission arrangements are controlled by Somerset County Council who send out forms to all parents of school-aged children well in advance of admission. Enquiries about admissions at other times should be first made to the school office where staff will be happy to guide you through the process. Our new Reception classes each year begin with a part time induction period, which enables new pupils to settle in to their new surroundings and become familiar with school staff and routines. Most children are then ready to begin full time school by the October half term. Additional Educational Needs All children experience times in their education when they need some extra help and support and this is often provided by the classroom teacher or teaching assistant. We also have an excellent team of Learning Support Assistants and an AEN Co-ordinator who specialise in both in-class support and working with individuals or small groups in their own classroom base. Our full AEN policy is available from the school office or can be downloaded from the school website. Disability and Accessibility Plan Stoberry Park School and the Governing Body are committed to providing a school which is fully accessible to all our staff and pupils. Many areas are wheelchair accessible and both main buildings have accessible toilets. Any further development work on the site will consider accessibility issues as a priority, with provision made as and when required, by our staff and pupils.
