2 Writing Week Magic! We had a very exciting start to our week on Monday when a magician came into school to perform a magic show! The show involved a range of tricks including making things disappear - two of which were teachers' heads!! This prompted lots of discussion about where things which disappear go to - and inspired our writing across school this week through using a book called 'Leon and the Place Between'! Thank you to Paul (our magician) who was fantastic, and to Mr Harrison and Mr Tilley for being very brave volunteers! Parking on the Millennium Centre Car Park There will unfortunately be no parking on the Church car park on the morning of Monday 30th January until all the rubbish and saplings etc. have been shredded and removed following on from the Community Church Yard Clean Up Day on Saturday 28 January. Swimming Gala On Thursday, 9 Keystage2 children took part in the St Helens Primary Schools Swimming Gala. The children had only trained and prepared for the gala for 2 weeks but their hard work paid off, coming 3 rd out of 10 schools. The children were an absolute credit to St Ann s, demonstrating great determination and sportsmanship. Further to this, a huge congratulations to Owen in Year 6 who broke the St Helens Primary School record for 25m freestyle. Owen had everybody on their feet with his outstanding performances and got himself a reputation for having a fantastic name and fantastic swimming shorts. Well done children, Miss Gabbitas & Mrs Dumbell are extremely proud! Peer Listener Assembly This week, the newly trained Peer Listeners launched their role and introduced themselves during a whole-school assembly. From next week, two Peer Listeners will be on the playground at lunch-time to help make the playground a happier and safer place. Safeguarding our children: Gaming using XBOX Live A letter was sent to all parents this week regarding gaming using XBOX Live, a copy is attached to this Newsletter for your information. Next week KS2 pupils will participate in an assembly all about safe usage of gaming devices on line. Dancing at the Theatre Royal Well done to the Year 5 children who participated in the Winter Dance Showcase on the Theatre Royal on Thursday. The children s hard work and dedication to their Friday morning dance club was evident during their excellent performance of Hairspray.

3 Job Vacancy: Level 2 Teaching Assistant We currently have a vacancy for a Learning Assistant Level 2 + SEN. If you are interested in applying for this vacancy please see for details. Junior Road Safety Officers This week our JRSO s met with Miss Middlehurst to think about how they can support school in putting a stop to the illegal parking and stopping outside school for the safety of our pupils. In addition, the JRSO s started to plan an assembly, discussed setting up a notice board, planned a competition and wrote some safety messages for the Spring Newsletters. Look out for them each week! Talent Show Auditions Auditions for the Talent Show are being held on Monday 30 th January. If your child has returned an audition letter, please make sure they have anything they need for their act in school on this day e.g. sheet music, props, costumes, instruments, scripts, and so on. In the near future you will receive further letters about the talent show so make sure you look for these. Year 5 Cultural Visit Today Year 5 went on their first Cultural Visit. This visit was to the Imperial War Museum. Please see next week s Newsletter for details and photos. The Teaching of Reading Workshops for Parents This week Year Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 Parent Workshops took place. We hope you found these useful and informative. Feedback so far has been extremely positive. Staff Development Assessment Week Week commencing Monday 23 rd January will be the Assessment Week for Year 6. Week commencing Monday 30 th January will be Assessment Week for Year 1 Year 5. This week Miss Middlehurst participated in a training course all about developing our pupils life skills and Mrs Tryer attended a training session about incorporating ICT into Music lessons. Miss Howard and Mrs Wolahan attended an update about Accelerated Reader. All teachers took part in a staff inset led by Mrs Winstanley and Miss Middlehurst all about developing our pupils mindset so that they all believe they can achieve and develop skills such as resilience. Staff also participated in training Maths training with the rest of the Trust. Week commencing Monday 23 rd January, Miss Foster will take part in training for the Excellent Maths Teacher. Mrs Greenough is off to London to the BETT Conference to learn about how technology in schools is changing, and Mrs Rynn will be travelling to London to attend the Great Schools Whole Education Conference. Later in the week Miss Middlehurst and Mrs Allcock will be participating in training focused on developing pupils emotional health and character. Week commencing Monday 30 th February, Mrs Greaves will lead a steering group focused on high quality teaching in RE.

4 'Staying Safe' Domestic Abuse Support Group What is it? It's a new 'drop in' support group that was launched on 18th Jan Who is it for? The group is for anyone over 16years who is, or has suffered from the effects of domestic abuse of any kind. When does it take place? Every Wednesday 9.30am to 12.30pm. What about men? The first Wednesday of every month is open to males only who are experiencing domestic abuse. Where does it meet? Ground Floor Meeting Room, St Helens Parish Church (wheelchair accessible) Church Square, St Helens Town Centre What does it offer? Access to free confidential and practical advice; emotional support; friendship; activities; guest speakers; group led discussions; a safe and secure environment and access to skilled and experienced staff. Do I need an appointment? No. Just 'drop in' Who can I contact if I'd like more information? Mrs Edwards, Pastoral Manager or Helena's Domestic Abuse Team Year 5 Communion On Thursday 26 th January at 9.30am Year 5 will participate in Communion at Church. Date Change for Year 5 Due to an opportunity that has arisen for our choir, it is necessary to change the date of Year 5 s Mentoring Conversations in June. The new date for Y5 Mentoring Conversations is now Wednesday 14 th June instead of Tuesday 13 th June. Please accept our apologies if this has caused any inconvenience. Appeal from the Parish Council On Saturday 28 January 2017 from 9.30am we will be working in the Churchyard to clear saplings and fallen leaves and to tidy some graves etc. We need willing hands together with their garden tools and elbow grease to help out. In return we will provide tea, coffee, juice and bacon butties, with lashings of community spirit and the satisfaction of a job well done. Week commencing Monday 30 th January, Mrs Greenough will be training newly qualified teachers across the region in the Computing Curriculum. Governor Morning This Thursday we held our third Governor and Director morning of the academic year. Together we looked at their role during an inspection. Year 4 and 5 Harry Potter Book Night A very exciting event is coming up in our school! We will be hosting a Harry Potter Book Night for Year 4 and 5 children on Thursday 2nd February. The event will take place 6-8pm, with the children taking part in many activities including choosing wands, being sorted into Hogwarts houses and

5 Rainhill Heads Today Mrs Rynn attended a meeting with all the other Heads of the Rainhill High feeder schools. Transition from Year 6 to Year 7 was the focus of discussion. Family Assembly On Friday 27 th January at 9.00am (please note the earlier time), 2MR will lead a Family Assembly. Everyone welcome! 2G will lead a Family Assembly on Friday 3 rd February at 9.30am. taking part in a Harry Potter quiz! Details have now been sent out to parents in a letter. Community Cohesion Meeting If you have a business and would like to find out how you could support our school, or ask how we might support you, why not come along to our Community Cohesion Meeting on Tuesday 24 th January at pm. Pupil Learning Environment Team On Friday 27 th January the Pupil Learning Environment Team will meet for the first time to examine the quality of the school indoor environment. School Dinner Menu Please note that the Menu for school dinners can be viewed on the school website in the About Us section. Week commencing 23 rd January 2017 will be Week 2 Missing coat Please could you check that your child has the right coat? A boys navy blue hooded, padded / puffa coat has gone missing, possibly Marks & Spencer s. If found please return to the school office. St Helens Young Carers Centre The Carers Centre supports any child or young person (aged between 6 and 18) who looks after someone in their family who has an illness, a disability or is affected by mental illhealth or substance misuse, including alcohol. Support includes respite breaks, group activities, trips, training and one to one support all free of charge. For further information, contact them on Growth Mindset We like to think of our champions and idols as superheroes who were born different from us. We don t like to think of them as relatively ordinary people who made themselves extraordinary. Carol Dweck Performance Opportunities At St. Ann s we are passionate about children having the opportunity to show case their talents. To that end we have decided to create an opportunity for our children to do this during daily worship.

6 If your child would like to perform in worship one morning, please complete the reply slip below and return to the school office. Children wishing to perform will have their name placed on a waiting list and nearer the date of their performance they will receive an invitation. If your child requires anything for their performance (e.g. instrument, sheet music, cd, prop), they should remember to bring this with them. Occasionally it is necessary to cancel whole school worship due to unforeseen circumstance, when this happens if it is your child's turn to perform, the date of their performance will be re-arranged.
