1 Gladesville Primary School Newsletter Monday 20 th November 2017 Our Mission: Empower the leader within each individual A few messages from the Principal s desk School Structure I am delighted to share our 2018 School Structure with the school community. As you can see, it is onwards and upwards with some great learning opportunities planned for 2018 and beyond. 5 Classes: Foundation, Gr 1/ 2, Gr 3/ 4, Gr 5 and Gr 6 Specialist Programs: Indonesian Language, Visual Art, Physical Education, Performing Arts in Semester 1 and STEAM: Science and Technology through Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in Semester 2. Classroom teachers will be announced in the coming weeks Uniform At the end of this year, all of the old logo uniform will be donated to a charity and our uniform shop will be fully stocked with only new logo uniform. Old logo uniform can be worn until the end of next year, 31 st December At the start of 2019, the old logo uniform will no longer be school uniform and will need to be replaced with new logo items. The uniform shop is run by Fashion Club Wear and is Australian made. It is only open on specific days please check the website for these days. If you need the uniform sooner, please order it online and your order will be prepared that week and sent home. Our next two uniform shop days for this year are Friday 24 th November from 8.45am to 11.15am and at our whole school Orientation Day, Tuesday 12 th December 8.45am to 11.15am. 2 Book Fair 2018 Indonesian Language News Language Indonesian Below is a song we have been learning in Indonesian about animals including dolphins, spiders, turtles and butterflies. Lumba-lumba, lumba-lumba kelabu Lumba-lumba, lumba-lumba kelabu Saya suka sekali lumba- lumba kelabu. Then the song is repeated using laba-laba hitam, kura-kura hijau and kupu-kupu kuning instead of lumbalumba kelabu. Over the last two weeks the following students have received an award during Indonesian lessons for making proactive choices: 5/6: Koda & Alyssa 4/5: Cody & Moses 2/3: Jack & Laylah 1/2: Tyson & Anthony F: Peter & Maddie

3 Thank you helpers Morning Tea Working Bee On Wednesday 29 th November 2017, we are holding our Term 4 Working Bee from 3.30pm until 5.00pm. There are several tasks that need to be attended to on the afternoon. The tasks requiring attention will be predominantly sweeping paths, trimming and cutting back of the plants around the school grounds, as well as a few other tasks. A task board will be set up to allow volunteers to pick jobs that suit their skill set or the equipment they ve brought along. Please ensure they are clearly labeled or easily identifiable. On arrival please make sure you locate the sign in table situated outside of the canteen area. This will ensure all tasks are attended to on the afternoon. We ask the slip below be returned by Tuesday 21 st November. We appreciate your continued support for the up keep and maintenance of our terrific school and surrounding grounds. Community Sports Day This year 28 students represented Gladesville Primary School at the Districts Community Sports Day which was held at Oxley College. We had 2 teams compete against the other schools in the district, with our Purple Team taking 1st place. All the students had fun and participated in all sporting activities with focus and determination. Well done to all who took part, and a big thank you to the teachers, aides and parent who came along to support.

4 Colour Fun Run Friday the 17th saw the first ever Colour Fun Run at Gladesville Primary School. The students looked immaculate in their white t-shirts at the start, but were soon covered in coloured powder as they completed many laps of the course. The run was in aid to raise money for some new PE equipment, and with so many students and parents taking part I am looking forward to investing in lots of new equipment for next year. Please don't forget to order your prizes online before the 24th November. Thank you for supporting this event and we look forward to seeing you at the next one in March 2018!!

5 Science News For the rest of the term in science students will be investigating animals. Students will be assigned an animal and will create a booklet that shows its habitat, diet, location and in the world. Life cycles and adaptations will be explored in senior science as well. Students will work collaboratively in groups to explore animals together and then create their own piece of work. I can t wait to see them use their creative and scientific skills to make some attractive and informative brochures. Science Facts! As always, we are fortunate to have Step by Step Music, join us to showcase our students musical abilities. Guess how many goodies are in the goodie jar (currently in the office and $1 per guess) to win a $100 gift voucher from Fashion Club Wear school uniform shop. Raffle prizes: A reminder that in keeping with DET Policy, smoking and the consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted on school grounds. We look forward to you joining us for a night of singing and celebration to end our 2017 school year. Both The Spud Shack and a Mr Whippy van will be at Gladesville on the night for a delicious dinner option. Please see a sample menu for the spud shack below.

7 OSHC November and December program NEW CANTEEN SUPPLIERS This is the last Peppercorn week. Next week, we will be commencing with our new canteen suppliers BALANCED LIVING CATERING. They are very reasonably priced. Our Canteen day will change to THURSDAYS. You will receive more information home very soon. Check out their website below.

You have been respectful, listening well, and having lots of fun! Thank you for making it a positive experience, and for always giving it your very best go. 56A Ryan Habit 3: For putting first things first by being attentive and respectful in yoga Physical Education Visual Art Georgia Alex P Habit 6: Georgia has constantly demonstrated how to synergize in her PE lessons. She has worked well with others. This positive attitude has allowed her and her team mates to work productively in lesson. Well done! Alex aimed high this week in art and through being proactive in his own learning achieved AMAZING results. So proud of you Alex. 00A 12A 45A 56A Physical Education Zoe Xavier Zac Thawng Tha Joe Week ending 17 th October Habits 1, 2 & 7: Zoe is calm and centred during Yoga lessons and is transferring these skills into her classroom behaviour. Habit 3: For focusing on and finishing his letter to Rudolf before going outside to play. Habit 3: Zac, you have been really focused in mathematics this week while compiling data about your class's preferred sport, and then graphing that data. I was so impressed with your attitude towards these maths sessions, and the fantastic effort you put into your work. Habit 5: For your consistently focused approach to your learning, well done Thawng Tha. Habit 6: Joe has constantly demonstrated how to synergize in his PE lessons. He has worked well with others. This positive attitude has allowed him and his team mates to work productively in lesson. Well done!

10 Community Noticeboard A big thank you to the school community Our church has been working with Gladesville Primary for nearly 13 years. We have been providing mentors under the Kids Hope banner. During that time, we have paid the annual affiliation fees to Kids Hope Australia. The mentors have been trained and work strictly in a secular role with the children. Our aim is to provide support for children with special needs. Over the years this fee, like all costs, has risen substantially. Currently we are paying over $600 to remain under the Kids Hope umbrella. Our small church has struggled to meet this commitment. Your fundraising efforts this year have helped greatly towards this year s costs. We hope to continue our work in the school well into the future.
