2 Brookburn s Extra Time Activities Programme Welcome to your one stop shop for finding out about clubs and activities that happen after school at Brookburn. These clubs are provided by Brookburn staff, Brookburn parents and professional activity companies, for the benefit of our children. The aim is for them to enrich the curriculum and be a source of stimulation and fun for all ages. Wherever possible, these clubs are free or for a minimal cost, however professional activity companies will incur costs that they must cover and will therefore often charge a fee. There was fantastic participation, once again, in the clubs last term, with over 300 places being taken up in over 22 clubs. There were so many clubs on offer that some simply didn t have enough numbers to run, but we are hoping take-up of these clubs (fencing and photography) will increase again. We are really using our school space to the maximum now and have two sessions running before the school day (gymnastics and fencing) and the MUGA and top yard are being used for sports activities after school every day. Please note that these clubs do not have an indoor space, so children must be prepared for whatever the weather throws at them! There are some small outdoor covered areas for the when the weather becomes too adverse. Most children are able to attend the club that is their first choice and waiting lists will continue to operate to ensure everyone gets their turn at some point over the school year. We are delighted that some new clubs and activities have been added to the list and we are extremely grateful for the support of parents and teachers in getting these established. Please feel free to contact Janet Davenport, the Deputy Head, if you have other ideas or could offer any clubs to develop our Extra Time Programme. Please read the extra activities page carefully and clearly indicate on the enrolment form which club or activity your child is interested in. Please note that some clubs request payment weekly, some half termly and others termly. This will be shown clearly on the letter you receive when your place in the club is confirmed. We are looking to attract organisations to rent space in the school for clubs, events, etc. We have availability in the evenings (after 6pm) and at weekends. Children who are entitled to free school meals (as per income, not the newly introduced free school meals for all up to Y2) can attend one club, without charge, for a term. Please read the class descriptors for more information about the sessions and to ensure they are suitable for your child.

6 Class Descriptors Please note some of these classes have restricted numbers. School will operate a waiting list so that over the school year everyone will have the chance to join in with an after school club of their choice. Junior Sports Stars, Mini-Olympics: an active multi-sport session led by the Junior Sport Stars team. Maximum 25 children. Junior Sport Stars, Football: learn the skills and techniques to master the game of football. Maximum 45 children. Fencing: A huge success last year, Natalia, the fencing coach has helped the children develop their sparring and point scoring techniques. Note this is MONDAY 8am in the school hall. Minimum 15 places to run this club. Maximum 20 children. Guitar Club : A chance to learn to play the guitar. Basic chords and popular tunes will be covered over the sessions. Maximum 10 children. Photography: Very popular in the Autumn term: This is a practical hands-on session to understand how a camera works, how to get the best images by following a few basic principles including composition and framing techniques. You need your own camera: a compact, an i-pad, an i-phone or other similar are all suitable. Minimum of 15 needed for this class to run so don t hold back! Rock Band: Led by Mr Sumner, this club focuses on forming a Rock Band and making music. Please note this club is invite only and auditions will be held in school for the musicians and singers needed. Enjoy A Ball: The Enjoy-a-Ball programme gradually develops sports-specific skills and confidence across eight ball sports in a non-competitive environment. The 8 ball sports are: Football, Tennis, Cricket, Rugby, Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball and Hockey. Small class sizes help ensure your child gets as much individual attention as possible and we provide plenty of positive reinforcement. To recognise and reward good sportsmanship, good manners, perseverance and courage, we award a floating trophy at the end of every lesson. Maximum 12 children. Street Dance: Fun filled fast moving dance classes with funky moves! Maximum 30 children. Big Comedy Shop: If you love drama and love to laugh, come and giggle at Big Comedy Shop! Our workshops are high energy and a lot of fun where we explore what is funny and how to grow in confidence with the use of comedy on the stage or in front of the camera. Yes your comedy sketches, characters and ideas can be seen on being filmed and edited by professionals. Come with an open mind ready for some fun! Maximum 25 children. Code Club: Come and develop the skills to create a sequence of instructions to control animations on the computer screen. Learn the basics of computer programing. Maximum 15 children. Cooking Club: Exploring healthy recipes and learning some basic cooking skills. Take home some great tasting food and amaze your family. Maximum 8 children run on a half termly basis. (We would appreciate parents support with this club, pm. Please contact Mrs Norman) Netball: Led by a parent volunteer with extensive netball experience. Children will learn ball control, passing techniques and strategy to be able to play in a competitive game of High Five! an adaptation of netball used in Primary Schools. Maximum 20 children. Cricket Club: Led by a fully qualified coach from Lancashire Cricket Board. The session will equip you with all the skills to play as a team at a competitive level. Maximum 16 children. Gymnastics: Led buy a professional coach Sam Battersby. Children will work on floor and beam exercises working towards BAGA (British Association of Gymnastics Awards) MORNING CLUB 8AM. Maximum 16 children.

7 Class Descriptors Craft and sewing: New this term! Year 5 and 6 club will involve learning knitting skills and then making a small toy animal from a knitted square led by our craft expert Sue Moylan. Minimum 10; Maximum 15 children Craft and sewing: New this term! Year 3 and 4 club will be involved in decoupage paper bunting the school. Also, they will do some origami box making and decorate with flowers. Minimum 10; Maximum 15 children Dodgeball: New this term! This will be led by a Dodgeball coach Reice Carmichael. The session will involve ball skills, attack and defence strategies in a fast paced game. Year 4 have priority and then it will open to Y5 and Y6. Minimum 15; Maximum 30 children To enrol on any of the above clubs please fill in the enrolment form at the back of this brochure and return to the school office no later than Tuesday 21st April You will then be sent a confirmation letter introducing you to the club and reminding you of the time, place and payment details. Extra Time Policy and Conditions. The Full Extra Time Policy and conditions are available at the school office. They have been omitted from the Summer Term 2015 Extra Time leaflet because we have so many clubs on offer, it is taking more pages to list and describe them!

8 Brookburn s Extra Time Enrolment Form SUMMER Term Please complete one form per child and return to the school office by Tuesday 21st April 2015 Children who are entitled to free school meals can attend one club, without charge, for a term. (as per income, not under the new government initiative of meals for all under 7) Name of child: Contact Number: Year Group: Teacher: Please name the clubs your child would be interested in. For Office Use Only, tick shows a place in the club. Any medical conditions that the leader should be aware of: Our aim is that every child will have a place in at least one of their requested clubs. We will send out reply slips explaining which clubs your child has been allocated. Most activities will start the week beginning 27th April 2015 and will finish week commencing 29th June. This makes a total of. However, please note the following: Monday clubs will have 8 sessions due to the May bank holiday (Monday 4th May) Thursday Netball club will have 8 sessions due to the school disco night (Thursday 30th April). The following Thursday clubs: Running Club, Code Club and Rock Band, will have 6 sessions due to Ghyll Head residential (Thursday 4th June) and staff training (Thursday 25th June). Thursday football club will have 7 sessions due to staff training (Thursday 25th June). Friday clubs will have 8 sessions, as there will be no club on Teacher Training Day (Friday 22nd May). When collecting your child from any after school activities please collect them from the amphitheatre courtyard, unless otherwise started on the confirmation letter. All relevant monies will be collected by the club leader after clubs have been designated. Please do not send in any money with this enrolment form.
