2 - make transparent how judgments are made about the quality of the evidence demonstrated in the student response to a summative assessment task - are used to provide feedback specific to the individual student focused on the quality of their performance; and to inform teaching and learning - support whole school moderation processes to align curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting. This year a great deal of our work continues in the priority areas of Literacy and Numeracy. To reflect our strategic focus in the area of Literacy and Numeracy the upcoming report cards once again will provide additional information to parents not only outlining what has been taught but comments that outline where your child needs to focus to improve or consolidate their understanding. If you have any questions about your child s report card please be sure to touch base with your child s teacher who will be happy to discuss and clarify any questions you may have. YARRILEE TO JOIN THE STYMIE STUDENT WELL BEING PROGRAM All Hervey Bay Primary Schools will be participating in STYMIE, an anonymous online reporting system currently being used by our 2 local state high schools. STYMIE is an online avenue that enables students to report harassment and poor online behaviour. The founder of STYMIE, Rachel Downie, visited Yarrilee State School on Friday 15 th June talking to the students in Years 5 & 6 around the use of technology and social media. Parent Information sessions catering for parents from all the Bay State Schools were also conducted throughout the week on - Monday 11 th June in the Pialba State School Hall - Wednesday the 13 th June in the Kawungan State School Resource Centre The information sessions for parents were based around technology and how parents can be pro-active with their children in this area. The sessions were a great opportunity for parents/carers to better understand the risks associated with online behaviour for their children. If you missed the session information can also be found on HALL UPGRADE UPDATES Over the last 6 weeks our school hall has been out of action and undergoing some major renovations with an enclosed ceiling being installed to improve the sound quality, LED lighting replacing the existing lighting and a BIG ceiling mounted fan to circulate the air throughout. This week the new floor surface is due to be poured and painted. The work is due to be completed by the end of the week if all goes according to plan and the floor dries as expected. The last part of the renovation will include the painting of the foyer area. Although these upgrades have meant we have had to cancel assemblies and move Outside School Hours Care and other events out of our hall, it will be well and truly worth it to see these facilities all upgraded and refreshed. We thank all members of our school community for their understanding and patience as this major upgrade is completed. QUEENSLAND PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR SAY ON NAPLAN Parents, caregivers and community members are invited to provide their feedback on NAPLAN and its role in meeting the needs of Queensland students and schools. Led by independent reviewer Dr Gabrielle Matters, the evaluation will involve state, Catholic and independent schools to ensure a broad view of parent opinions are captured. An online survey at is currently available to give as many people as possible the opportunity to have their say. In Term 3, 2018, the evaluation will focus on gathering the feedback of school leaders, communities and stakeholders. YEARS 1-6 ASSEMBLY FOR LEVEL 1 AND 2 BEHAVIOUR CERTIFICATES. The students at Yarrilee are expected to be respectful and responsible in the way they conduct themselves throughout the school day. Our students are encouraged to strive to achieve and are very focussed on reaching their goals. Behaviour levels are an important component of this process. In my travels around the school, children are able to explain to me their current behaviour level and what they need to do in order to move to the next level. Children who achieve a Level 1, 2 or 3 are then invited to participate in reward days as a recognition of their focus towards achieving these goals. We are very proud of our students efforts. Reward Days are an important aspect of our whole school Responsible Behaviour Plan and it is wonderful to see our children aspiring to reach these targets. On Friday the 29th June, the final day of term, we will be having a Year 1-6 school assembly commencing at 9.00am in the hall to present the Level 1 and 2 Behaviour Certificates and wrist bands. Students who have achieved these levels will receive a letter to bring home in the coming weeks inviting parents and family to attend our Behaviour Awards assembly. Please be sure to add this event to your calendar as we look forward to sharing and celebrating this special assembly with family and friends. ATHLETICS CARNIVAL IN WEEK 11 Week 11, the final week of Term 2, is a big week as we conduct our Middle School and Senior School Field events on Monday 25 th June and Tuesday 26 th June followed by our Whole School Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 27th June. We hope to see as many parents and families as possible come along to our Whole School Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 27 th June to cheer children along.

3 Stay tuned to Facebook for event information, updates or additions to the program. Children are encouraged to wear their house shirts or house colours at the carnival. ENROLMENTS FOR THE 2019 PREP YEAR ARE NOW OPEN Students born between the 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014 are eligible for the Preparatory year of school in Parents are encouraged to collect a Prep Enrolment Pack from the school office and register for our Pre Prep Program which commences in Term 3. Yarrilee State School is now an enrolment managed school. Parents who reside outside of the catchment area are encouraged to place their child s name on the Out of Catchment Prep Enrolment List as soon as possible. Out of Catchment Prep vacancies are offered in order of the waiting list. To ensure that our future Preppies have the best start and transition to formal schooling Yarrilee State School implements a very comprehensive Pre Prep Program. Each Pre Prep Program consists of 4 scheduled school visits, each with a particular theme in which children participate in a variety of classroom and school activities including whole class instruction, rotational hands on activities, music/ movement, STEM, visits to the library and much more. Each of the 4 sessions within the program run from am. These programs are a wonderful opportunity for our future preppies to become familiar with our school and staff, join in classroom activities and make new friends prior to starting school in At the end of each session the children are given a Takeaway Pack full of activities and ideas to continue their learning through until the next session. We will be conducting 5 Pre Prep Programs each consisting of 4 individual sessions. Bookings for these programs are essential as spaces are filling fast. Have a great fortnight, Kind regards Sharon McMorrow PYJAMA PARTY DISCO Next Friday night, the 22nd of June is the end of term rewards disco for Level 1, 2 and 3 students. This time, we are having a pyjama theme so come dressed in your PJ s. Entry cost is $5. There will be mini pies and sausage rolls, lollies, popcorn, drinks and glow sticks available for purchase. Junior School disco (P-Y2): 5:30-6:50pm Middle/Senior disco (Y3-Y6): 7-8:30pm. Sports Day Sausage Sizzle On Wednesday the 27th of June, the P&C will be holding a sausage sizzle to coincide with sports day. The tuckshop will be closed for the usual tuckshop menu and instead are offering a sausage sizzle meal deal for students to order. The meal deal consists of a sausage on bread, muffin and popper for $5.50. Meal deal orders need to be returned to the P&C box in the office by Monday, the 25th of June. Parents attending the school will be able to purchase a sausage sizzle from the tuckshop during the day. Tea and coffee will also be available to purchase. If you are available anytime on the Wednesday to help out in the tuckshop with the sausage sizzle, it would be much appreciated. Please see Lynne in the tuckshop if you are free. YARRILEE SS WILL HOLD THE INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL IN TERM 2 WEEK 11! Dates and times are below: MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD EVENTS/200M HEATS (Grade 3/4): Monday 25 TH June, 11.30am 3.00pm. SENIOR SCHOOL FIELD EVENTS (Grade 5/6): Tuesday 26 TH June, 11.30am 3.00pm WHOLE SCHOOL CARNIVAL: Wednesday 27 TH June, 8.50am 3.00pm. (Prep to Grade 2 will participate from 8.50am to 10.50am ONLY). Due to our large number of students, some events, High Jump and Discus, have been run prior to the carnival. Field events Carnival will consist of Long Jump, Shot Put, Ball Games and 200m Heats. Whole school carnival will consist of 100m heats and finals, 200m finals, ball games, tug of war, and participation high jump and long jump. STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO WEAR THEIR HOUSE COLOURS!!!! Athletics Day Meal Deal Wed June 27 th Students can pre-order a meal deal for first break including a sausage on bread, popper and a Home bake for just $5.50 Extra Sausages $2. WOODWIND, BRASS PERCUSSION WORKSHOPS Over the past fortnight, our Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students have participated in a series of beginner and advanced workshops at Kawungan State School. These workshops allow students to become immersed for 3 whole days in lessons to further develop their skills in their chosen instrument. The workshops culminated in a wonderful concert on Wednesday evening in the Kawungan State School hall. From parent reports, it was one of the best concerts in many years, with the advanced group particularly, doing an outstanding job. Well done to all of our Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students. We are looking forward to these students performing at our annual Music Awards Night later in the year. INFORMATION FROM THE ADMIN OFFICE Keep your family contact details up to date by advising the office staff of any changes. That may be your phone numbers, address, address and emergency contacts. LOST AND FOUND A fishing rod has been handed into the office. If you have lost a rod recently and you can identify the item, we will happily return it to you. SCHOOL PHOTOS Yarrilee SS will be having school photos taken over two days in July. The dates are Wednesday 25 th and Thursday 26th July. Order forms have been sent home earlier this week.
