We thank God for their dedication and generosity, including the wonderful St Patrick s Cathedral dedicated to the patron saint of our archdiocese. Thanks to our junior classes who helped us celebrate a little of our Irish history and culture yesterday. St Gabriel s Parish Church: The Way of the Cross Fridays during Lent at 7.00pm This Friday at 7.00pm our students will be leading the Way of the Cross. This holy prayer helps us stop and reflect on what Jesus sacrificed for us on his way to Calvary and death on the Cross. If you can t join us this Friday please make a date in your diary to join the parish over the next Fridays evenings leading up to Holy Week especially Good Friday. A Day for Fathers - The Challenge of Fatherhood Today Saturday 21 st March 9 am to 3 pm Thomas Carr Centre, 278 Victoria Parade East Melbourne. A day sponsored by the Melbourne Archdiocese Office of Marriage and Family. Saturday March 21, 9 am to 3 pm. Thomas Carr Centre, 278 Victoria Parade East Melbourne. Presenter will be Robert Falzon, Co-founder of menalive Ministries. Bishop Mark Edwards OMI will launch the day with Mass at 9 am. Cost $35 which includes lunch and a copy of a new book, The Father Factor. Enquiries: lmf@cam.org.au or Bookings: Two years ago St Gabriel s Parish hosted menalive over a weekend. We would love to see the wheeling and walking kept up during the year, as it can greatly benefit student s personal and academic development. Thanks to our local supplier Edwards Street Fruit Market, for supplying apples at a discounted price. URGENT REMINDER: COMBINED CATHOLIC PARISHES RAFFLE 2015 ALL tickets are NOW due. 33 families have still not returned the tickets (they were given out 5 weeks ago) This is a heavily regulated raffle and ALL TICKETS MUST BE ACCOUNTED FOR. Please return your tickets sold or unsold now. **** The FIRST CLASS to return the MOST SOLD tickets receives a free treat supplied by the P&F Committee. Grade 5/6KM are in the lead***** GRADE 6 PHOTOS The P&F Committee will be putting together a special present, as part of the Grade 6 Graduation gifts. If any parents or students have any school based photos from 2015 of the Grade 6 students that they would like to share, please forward them to pandf@sgreservoir.catholic.edu.au. 3 St Gabriel s Annual Lapathon THIS THURSDAY 19 th March at 11.45am All children to do 10 laps FREE PIZZA LUNCH ON THE DAY: All students will receive 2 free large slices of pizza from our wood fired oven and a drink this Thursday. Extra pizza will be available for $1 per large slice. WHAT TO WEAR FOR LAPATHON: sports uniform and/or your favourite sporting colours/uniform. RETURNING FORMS AND SPONSOR MONEY: Grade 5 and 6s: Please return your completed sponsor form and money by Friday 20 th March. Prep Grade 4: Please return your completed sponsor form and money by Monday 23 rd March. Teachers collect 50c at 8.45am from students wishing to purchase an Icy Pole at beginning of second lunchtime ST GABRIEL S SCHOOL APP Finding it hard remembering all that is going on? To make it easier, The P&F Committee are now putting regular updates on the St Gabriel s School app. Please download it onto your smart phone (via the App store, Google Play or via the school website). As a special bonus for App users, we gave away two tickets at assembly on Monday, to see Melbourne Victory at AAMI park! 3

4 St. Gabriel s Tuesday Play Group: - Parents & Friends // Playgroup Room For babies and pre-school children and their Mums and Dads, Every Tuesday between 9.00am and 11.00am in Student Welfare Centre Enter through single gate beside vegetable garden Cost is $1 per child per week. Bring fruit or snack. Please enter school via Viola St Gate between 9.00am 9.15am. Gates are closed at 9.15am and access to/from St Gabriel s is via front office on Spring St. An opportunity to make new friends, share experiences and faith. Activities, Toys & Refreshments are provided, but your creativity and ideas are vital! Further Information: Lisa Please enter School via gate on Viola Street Staff Professional Learning On Friday March 20th Mrs. McGuire will be attending a Seminar on Building Independent Readers. Mem Fox, Anne Bayetto, Gary Wilson and Sally Rippon (all well-known authors) will be giving sessions on developing reading skills and nurturing a desire to read. Family Centred Classroom Practices 13 th of March Mrs Judy Doyle and I were lucky enough to participate in the Family Centred Classroom Practices (FCCP). The FCCP is a learning program, which increases knowledge for teachers to assist in improving students learning through the active engagement of families within and beyond the classroom. Judy and I will be working with four other schools near the Reservoir area. During our cluster meeting we will be discussing and planning ways to engage and support families in their children s learning.
